Shahrukh proves he is a real entertainer

He was saying it from a long time but this time he has proved it. SRK has recently proved that he is the real entertainer in bollywood.

He was recently in Toronto IIFA Awards Function where he was commited to perform on Dabangg's song which was the highlight of the function. But he was having problem in his knee therefore doctors had advised him not to perform.

Despite medical advice and his wife's disapproval, he performed with his injured knee Saturday night. He gave an enthralling risqué performance; so much so that after finishing his performance SRK limped out of the stage with his bloodied knees. An eye-witness said, "It was a scary sight.

The organisers had modified his steps in keeping with his injury. But Shah Rukh completely disregarded the restrictions imposed by his injury. He danced like a man possessed. But after the performance he just slumped.

Talking about SRK's brave performance, Shiamak Davar said, "Shah Rukh danced through his pain like a true master. He was in agony. But he still rocked the crowds. I'm so proud of him."

Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap Pre Release Prediction

BHTB is an upcoming Hindi RomCom directed by Puri Jagannath. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Prakash Raj, Hema Malini, Charmy Kaur, Manisha Lamba, Sonal Chauhan in the lead roles and Raveena Tandon in an item song. It is produced under the banner AB Corporation & Viacom 18 Motion pictures and is set to release on 1 July 2011.

So lets start with the prediction.....

1. Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap is highly anticipated by audience since the day its first look poster & trailer is released. The trailer of the movie is highly appreciated between the audience which is a positive point.

2.The music has also got popular with two songs 'Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap' & 'Haal-e-dil' being immensly liked by the people.

3. The film promises to be a clean family entertainer so families will like to watch it.

4. It shows Amitabh bachchan back in the avtar he is known for so it will be a treat for the fans & those people who are fond of these type of masala action movies.

5. The only factor that will act against the opening is its clash with two movies 'Delhi Belly' & 'Transformers 3' which will divide the audience.

On the whole BHTB will take a decent start due to its universal appeal but will not attract so much of youth. I expect an opening of 4-6 crore.

Delhi Belly Pre Release Prediction

Delhi Belly is an upcoming Hindi Adult Comedy film directed by Abhinay Deo. It stars Imran Khan, Vir Das, Kunal Roy Kapoor, Shenaz Tresurywala & Poorna Jagannathan in the lead. The film is produced under the Aamir Khan Productions & UTV Motion Pictures and is set to release on 1st July 2011.

So lets start with the prediction.......

The film has many factors which can provide it a good opening. Let's have a look....

1. The film is made under the most trusted banner of the industry Aamir Khan Productions which has given a lot of successful films.

2. The promos & music of the movie has put such effect on the youth that they will come surely to watch the movie. Songs like Bhaag DK bose, Nakkadwale Disco, Ja Chudail & Switty Tera Pyar Chahida have became there favorite songs. Also the item song of Aamir Khan 'I hate u' is being popular among the audiences.

3. The theme of the movie has created a lot of excitement in the youth.

leaving these factors aside there are some factors that will prove a big stone in the opening of the movie...

1. It has lot of 'gaalis' and 'adult language' which will prevent families to come & watch the movie.

2. It is releasing with two more films 'Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap' & a hollywood film 'Transformers 3' which will divide the audience.

On the whole Delhi Belly will get a good audience in the form of youth and it will be highest opener 'A' certificate film. but it has nothing for families so we can't expect a huge opening. I predict 7-8 crore opening for the film.

Ready total business till 4th weekend

Ready collected 2 crore nett on its fourth weekend which shows a noticeable drop. But it was expected due to the release of Double Dhamaal.

The film has now grossed around 117.50 crore nett till the end of its fourth weekend and became 3rd highest grosser hindi movie so far leaving Ghajini behind.

By the end of its fourth week it will be near 119 crore nett and then it is likely to just edge over the 120 crore nett mark for its final lifetime business.

Double Dhamaal Weekend Business

Double Dhamaal had a very good first weekend of 25.50 crore nett as per early estimates. The film has scored very well over the first weekend and is expected to score again on Monday. The film has the potential to close the week at around 40 crore nett.

The approx breakdowns were 7.60 crore nett on Friday, 8.10 crore nett on Saturday and 9.75 crore nett plus on Sunday.

The film jumped heavily on Sunday in most circuits. The weekend business in Mumbai is around 10 crore nett, in Delhi/UP it is 5.50 crore nett. CI has under performed a little considering it is a mass film circuit.

Double Dhamaal had a another very good day on Saturday as it grossed 8 crore nett plus. The two day total is know 15.50-15.75 crore nett.

The weekend is looking at a 25 crore nett total which is an excellent number for Double Dhamaal.

The film did well all over on Saturday. A circuit like Mysore which was slow on Friday like Mysore, showed a 50% jump in collections. Only West Bengal is a bit of an under performer compared to the rest of the country. Major circuits like Mumbai, Delhi/UP and East Punjab are very strong.

Sanjay Dutt's look In Agneepath

Sanjay Dutt is the new Hulk Hogan of Bollywood, the actor is perhaps looking scarier and bulkier than yesteryear's actor Danny Denzongpa, who played the villain in the first 'Agneepath.'

Here is the first look of the Sanjay Dutt's 'Kancha Cheena' (Generation Next, version 2) for 'Agneepath Returns' ,where Hrithik Roshan essays the role of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, helmed by Amitabh Bachchan in the past.

Sanjay, who plays the vicious role, had to shave his hair off. The actor's looking deadly with tattoos inked all over his muscular arms and fist.

"Baba looks like a real mafia, with an international accent in the film, who will give a tough fight to all. He looks amazingly vicious with his bald look and threatens to be a show stealer," said a source from the film unit.

Akshay going to learn Combat Karate for his 'Rowdy Rathore'

Akshay Kumar is heading off to an undisclosed destination in South East Asia to learn a martial art form called Combat Karate for his next film, Rowdy Rathore.

This martial art form utilises fast-paced high kicking and speed punching and strikes to vulnerable points on the opponent's body. No rules are followed as it is a very stylised form of street-fighting. A source reveals, "There are various forms of Combat Karate, including the American one. However, Akshay will study the traditional art form popularly practised as an underground activity in South East Asia. Until recently, training in the art was banned in some countries in the region.

Akshay will be taking off for two months to learn Combat Karate, and will be accompanied by his action director Anal Arasu. During this training period, he will cut off from the outside world as this training involves rigorous discipline, focus and concentration. Rowdy Rathore is set in the rustic heartland of India, and will be directed by Prabhudeva. It will see the Khiladi Kumar return to the action genre, something he knows and does extremely well.

Katrina will not feature in Dhoom 3. YRF searching for fresh face

There was a report in a Mumbai tabloid that Katrina Kaif will feature in Dhoom 3 with Aamir Khan but this been denied by Yash Raj Films.

Rafiq Gangjee Vice President Marketing & Communications, YRF Films issued the following statement today.

Despite our various releases and denials, a tabloid this morning has gone ahead with publishing a story based on unconfirmed conjecture about Katrina Kaif being in DHOOM:3. According to the correspondent, Katrina has not only been confirmed for the part but it goes on to add that “the actress bags a role in the film and is already going through a special training to fit the part”.

And all of this without the correspondent even bothering to check with us. She should know, as all of us do, that Katrina is currently preparing for her role in Ek tha Tiger that goes on floor very soon.

We would like to once again reiterate that we are still looking for a fresh face to play the female lead in the much awaited movie and that as of now no one has been cast for the role.

Double Dhamaal Movie Review - Komal Nahta

Double Dhamaal Plot
: Cop-turned-conman Sanjay, his girlfriend, Mallika, and his sister, Kangna, cheat Arshad, Jaaved, Ritesh and Aashish into getting Rs. 250 crore from a don (Satish Kaushik) as investment in a plot of land which is supposed to be rich in crude oil. The trio then runs off to Macau with the money. Conned, the four guys – Arshad, Jaaved, Ritesh and Aashish – plan to take revenge by conning Sanjay and group back. What happens then? Read the full review for the rest.

Business rating: 1.5/5 stars

Star cast: Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Jaaved Jaffrey, Ritesh Deshmukh, Aashish Chowdhary, Mallika Sherawat, Kangna Ranaut, Satish Kaushik, Zakir Hussain.

What’s Good: The punch-filled dialogues that will appeal to the masses; the good performances of some of the actors.

What’s Bad: The uninteresting story; the loopholes in the screenplay; the absence of hit music.

Verdict: ‘Double Dhamaal’ will not score well enough as it will appeal to the masses more than the classes, and the single-screen audiences more than the multiplex-going audiences.

Loo break: Not really.

Watch or Not?: Watch it for the funny dialogues and some hilarious comic sequences.

Spoiler alert! You may want to skip directly to the Script Analysis below.

Reliance Entertainment and Maruti International’s Double Dhamaal (UA) is a comedy. Sequel to Dhamaal, it is about the four friends – Manav (Jaaved Jaffrey), Adi (Arshad Warsi), Roy (Ritesh Deshmukh) and Boman (Aashish Chowdhary) – and their encounter with Kabir (Sanjay Dutt) who is no longer a police officer.

Kabir is a conman in the guise of a rich businessman now, having resigned from the police force. Kamini (Mallika Sherawat) is Kabir’s beloved and a partner in his con game. Kiah (Kangna Ranaut) is the third partner and she is Kabir’s sister.

The four friends happen to spot Kabir and they hatch a plan to con him so that they can make money out of him, little realising that he is himself a conman. Anyway, Kabir manages to sell a government-owned plot of land to an underworld don-turned-tantrik, Baba Batanand Swami a.k.a. Bata Bhai (Satish Kaushik), by showing that the land has crude oil reserves. For the transaction, he tells Adi, Manav, Roy and Boman to deal with the don. Once the amount of Rs. 250 crore is received from the don as sale price of the plot of land, Kabir, Kamini and Kiah disappear with the money, leaving a fuming don who soon realises that he neither has right over the plot of land nor is it rich in crude oil reserve nor has he access to his Rs. 250 crore because the foursome who, in any case, don’t have the money to return him, have also disappeared.

Fearing for their lives, the four friends take the help of Mohsinbhai (Zakir Hussain) to flee the country. They land in Macau where they learn that Kabir is settled in the city. Thirsting for revenge, they try to gain entry, in disguises, into the life of Kabir who now runs a casino. Their aim is to win the confidence of Kabir, Kamini and Kiah, and then seek revenge by making away with his wealth. On his part, Kabir is trying to lay his hands on $1,000 crore from a local don of Macau, Johny Bonzela, by defrauding him but he doesn’t want to look like he has defrauded Bonzela.

Do Adi, Manav, Roy and Boman succeed in seeking revenge on Kabir? Or does Kabir con them once again? What about Bonzela whom Kabir is looking to con? And what about Baba Batanand Swami?

Double Dhamaal Review – Script Analysis

The film tries to encash on the ‘Dhamaal’ brand but in doing so, the story and screenplay writer (Tushar Hiranandani) has concentrated on gags and punches rather than an interesting script. In fact, the story about one-upmanship is predictable and the screenplay is full of gaping holes. Probably, the biggest drawback of the script is that the person from whose view point things are being narrated keeps changing as per the convenience of the situation. No harm in that except that this becomes an anomaly because when the focus shifts, the audience realises that some characters in the drama have done what could’ve been easily avoided. For instance, when the four friends come on a revenge mission to Macau, it is understandable that they would first and foremost try to win Kabir’s confidence and for that, they have to proceed in a round-and-about fashion as they are in disguises. But why Kabir, Kamini and Kiah play along is not explained. For, here were four scapegoats willing to do anything for Kabir – and Kabir, instead of using them to befool Bonzela and fleece him of his $1,000 crore, was busy playing along. Wasn’t Kabir in a hurry to first get control of the $1,000 crore? Why would he give even a minute extra to the foursome because what if any one of them got wind of his intention? If the writer would have us believe that Kabir was trying to make things as believable and as real as possible, that argument does not hold if only because, as stated earlier, the foursome was more than willing to do anything to win Kabir’s confidence – and getting $1,000 crore from Bonzela would be readily acceptable as a job by the foursome. More so, because the foursome, in any case, wanted to seek revenge which they could by running away with the money, and Kabir could have them get the money by conning them into believing that they were, in the process, going to win his confidence, and as soon as they got the money by risking their own lives, Kabir could’ve had them cornered. Instead, Kabir himself asks Bonzela to invest $1,000 crore in his casino. If that is so, wouldn’t the investor gun for Kabir to get his money back even if Kabir convinces him that the money is robbed by the foursome? Why would Bonzela go after the four and spare Kabir? This is just not explained but the fact is, this question crops up in the audience’s mind. Probably, the biggest hole in the screenplay is: why would Kabir ask for the four friends to be brought to Macau for his next con job, when he has himself run away from them and fled the country (India) after getting them involved in a crime? The natural human instinct would be to stay away from the four because it doesn’t require great intelligence to understand that they must be thirsting for Kabir’s blood. After all, Kabir had defrauded Bata Bhai of Rs. 250 crore, no less, and had made it appear as if the four friends were the criminals. Does the writer want the audience to believe that Kabir couldn’t have got four other idiots whom he could have made scapegoats of, for his casino deal in Macau and, therefore, wanted the same four friends to carry out the job? If so, the writer should have shown the compulsion for Kabir to want these and only these four friends. But the fact is, it may be difficult to get four intelligent men but not four idiots whom Kabir could’ve lured with money just as he lured the four friends in India in the Swami Batanand case. What’s worse still is that after having the four friends transported to Macau, it is Kabir and only Kabir who strikes the deal with Bonzela. Why wouldn’t Kabir make the foursome be at the forefront of the deal while himself remaining in the background so that he would never appear to be involved in the fraud? But the writer has no answer for this too.

Therefore, although the drama picks up after interval, the structure of the screenplay is so weak that other than the punch-filled dialogues, it doesn’t hold much. This is the reason why the film would find more acceptance among the masses and the single-screen audiences than among the classes and the multiplex audiences. Also the pitch at which the characters in the film speak is so loud that it would get on the nerves of the classes. Besides, so much reliance is placed on coincidence in the drama that it is not funny.

Another example of the focus being shifted randomly: the four friends vow to seek revenge at interval point but what comes of that vow in the end is not what one is used to watching. After all, in the scheme of things, the foursome are the underdogs and, therefore, the heroes in the drama. Put differently, the writer was not clear whether Kabir was the hero or the group of four was the group of heroes.

What saves the screenplay to a fair extent are the punch-packed dialogues by Sajid-Farhad and the performances. The funny lines often evoke laughter even though the drama defies logic. Similarly, there are some chunks which bring the house down with laughter. Among such funny anecdotes are the portions of Baba Batanand Swami (his dialogues are also splendid), Roy’s take-off on Sanjeev Kumar and other actors, the perpetually wrong timing of Manav’s dim-witted questions, the gorilla sequence etc. The scene in which the four friends hide themselves from Swami Batanand by covering themselves in long overcoats and ‘hanging’ themselves on the wall will bring the house down with laughter.

The climax is not as funny as it ought to have been.

Double Dhamaal Review – Star Performances & Direction

Sanjay Dutt is fair. He looks okay after interval but too stocky in the first half. Jaaved Jaffrey plays the dim-witted Manav very ably. Arshad Warsi is also effective. Ritesh Deshmukh is excellent, especially when he mimics Sanjeev Kumar and other actors. Aashish Chowdhary is okay. Mallika Sherawat doesn’t have a very substantive role. She is alright in what she does. Her dance on the Jalebi Bai song is sexy. Kangna Ranaut also gets limited scope; she is fairly good. Satish Kaushik is a veritable highlight. His acting is remarkable and his one-liners are very enjoyable. Zakir Hussain has been wasted but does make his presence felt.

Indra Kumar’s direction is okay. He has concentrated on gags more than an arresting story to create comedy, which is hardly the most intelligent thing to do. Music (Anand Raaj Anand) is quite a letdown. Except for the Jalebi bai and the title songs (which is fair), the other numbers pass muster. Even the lyrics (Anand Raaj Anand and Mayur Puri) are nothing to shout about. Song picturisations (Ganesh Acharya and Remo D’souza) are okay. Background music could’ve been better. Aseem Bajaj’s cinematography is eye-filling and brings out the richness of the Macau locations. Sets (Tanushree Sarkar and Dipankar Dasgupta) are good. Action scenes (Allan Amin) are fair. Sanjay Sankla’s editing is reasonably sharp.

Double Dhamaal Review – Komal Nahta’s Verdict

On the whole, Double Dhamaal is for the masses and the single-screen cinemas mainly. Considering its high cost (over Rs. 40 crore), it is not likely to prove a profitable venture even though the producers have made a killing from its satellite rights. If, by a stroke of good luck, the producers are able to break even, at least the distributors of the circuits, for which the producers have sold the rights, would end up being in the red because of the high prices they’ve paid.

Double Dhamaal Pre Release Prediction

Double Dhamaal is an upcoming Comedy Film which is the sequel to Dhamaal released in 2007. The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Jaaved Jaaferi, Riteish Deshmukh, Aashish Chaudhary, Mallika Sherawat & Kangna Ranaut in the lead. It is directed by Indra Kumar. The film is going to hit theatres on 24 Jun 2011.

So lets start with the prediction..........................

1. As we all know Double Dhamaal is sequel to Dhamaal(2007) which got so much appreciation from audience and it was also a boxoffice success. Double Dhamaal promises to be double than its prequel so people will love to see it in theatres.

2. It is a multi starrer comedy which will attract the audience.

3. The promos of the movies can be called just fair and has not put any special impact on people, The music is good but lack of a chartbuster will effect the opening day of the movie.

4. The film promises to be family entertainer so they will go for it.

Overall an opening day of 5-7 crore can be expected. If the film recieves a good WOM than very good weekend & lifetime can be expected. Let's hope for the best.

Censor Board pass Delhi Belly with 'A' certificate without any cut

Right from day one, Aamir Khan maintained that his latest production, DELHI BELLY is strictly for adults. And with the way the film is being promoted including the nasty song tracks, it was quite certain the film will not bag a 'U' or a 'UA' certificate.

So it comes as no shock that Imraan Khan starrer Delhi Belly has been passed by the Censor Board with an 'A' certificate, as per the reports. However, the team of DELHI BELLY can heave a sigh of relief as the Censor has cleared the film without any cuts.

Starring Irman Khan, Vir Das, Kunal Roy Kapoor, Shenaz Treasurywala, Poorna Jagannathan, the much touted youth flick DELHI BELLY hits the screens on July 1.

Bheja Fry 2 Falls. Total business till monday

Bheja Fry 2 had a big fall at the box office on Monday as it collected 65 lakhs nett approx. This takes the films four day business to 7 crore nett approx.

All the major circuits where it had a decent weekend fell while smaller circuits like CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan it was poor from day one.

The week is likely to finish at 8.50 crore nett for Bheja Fry 2 which is a decent total for the film but problem is its not sustained and therefore the best case scenario will be a 11 crore nett finish. The distributors share is likely to finish in that 5 crore range which is roughly the same as Chalo Dilli, Ragini MMS and Pyaar Ka Punchnama.

Ready continues to be a one horse race as it completely dominates the box office. Ready collected 1.40 crore approx on its third Monday which is just 20% drop from Friday. On Friday Bheja Fry 2 actually had better all India collections than Ready but it is a totally different story on Monday as the collections of Ready are more than double of Bheja Fry 2.

The third week for Ready seems to be heading for 13 crore nett business. The film has already grossed 102 crore nett in two weeks and after three weeks its total will be around 115 crore nett.

A 13 crore nett third week figure will be fourth highest ever after 30 crore of Three Idiots, 17 crore of Dabangg and 14 crore of Ghajini.

Bheja Fry 2 Weekend Business

Bheja Fry 2 had a good weekend of around 6.50-6.60 crore nett. However the problem was that it showed little growth over the weekend.

Friday was 2 crore nett, Saturday was 2.15 crore nett and Sunday was 2.40 crore nett. This may mean it will show drops on the weekdays.

Small films need good reviews as they are targeted towards a small segment of the audience which is swayed by reviews. Most small film makers make sure they get good reviews as that is only hope for box office success but here it does not seem to be the case.

The film could have had a near 8 crore weekend if it had growth which is normally associated with these type of films but still even a 6.50 crore is a good result as it is more than the whole first week business of films like Chalo Dilli, Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Shaitan etc.

Ready Third Weekend & 17 day total business

Ready had another huge weekend as it grossed around 8.25 crore nett in its third weekend. The approx breakdown was 1.75 crore nett on Friday, 2.50 crore nett on Saturday and 4 crore nett on Sunday. It is third highest figure for third weekend after Three Idiots and Dabangg but both of those films had no competition from other releases.

The film has now collected nearly 110 crore nett in 17 days. The film is now in fourth place as far all India lifetime nett collections go.

By the end of the third week it should be near the 115 crore nett mark of Ghajini which is third biggest nett grosser ever.

This week will see major competition in the form of Double Dhamaal so collections of Ready will drop but even still it should go past the 120 crore nett mark for an approx 122 crore nett lifetime finish.

Ready third saturday business

Ready had a very good jump on Saturday as collections were around 2.50-2.75 crore nett. Friday was 1.75 crore nett taking the third week total to 4.25-4.50 crore nett.

Sunday should come in at 4 crore nett plus which would mean a weekend of near 8.50 crore nett.

So it seems very likely the film would be around the 110 crore nett mark after 17 days.

In Delhi/UP the film should do a lifetime share of around 15 crore which compares well with the 12 crore of Ghajini and 9.50 crore of Golmaal 3, both 100 crore nett plus grossers.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra decides to change the script of 'Feraari Ki Savaari'

Vidhu Vinod Chopra announced his next film after the release of 3 Idiots. However, he has been unable to complete the film as yet. According to an industry source, Ekta Kapoor is the reason behind the delay of Ferrari Ki Sawari.

It is believed that Ekta's recently released Marathi film Taryanche Bait has a similar storyline. TB was a father-son story in which Sachin Khedekar's character promises his son to take him to a five star hotel in Mumbai and how he struggles to fulfill his promise. In FKS, Sharman promises his son a Ferrari ride.

Now when TB is released and has received a decent response, Chopra doesn't want a good subject to go waste or call it a remake of a regional film due to the similar storyline. Therefore, he is making some changes in the script due to which the film will take some more time to start.

FKS was supposed to start early this year and slated to release in December. It will be directed by Rajesh Mapuskar who assisted Rajkumar Hirani during Lage Raho Munnabhai and 3 Idiots. The film stars Sharman Joshi and Deepika Padukone in main leads.

Ready Third Friday Business

Ready is still going very strong at the box office as it picked up around 1.75 crore nett on its third Friday. Like last week there should be a good pick up on Saturday and Sunday and the film could end up with around 9 crore nett for the weekend. The drop is around 60% last Friday.

It looks very likely that the film will cross the Ghajini nett business of 115 crore approx by the end of its third week.

It will be interesting to see which film has the bigger weekend Ready or Bheja Fry 2. Bheja Fry 2 is leading on the Friday but it is likely that Ready will have bigger jumps on Saturday and Sunday to lead for another weekend.

Always Kabhi Kabhi & Bin Bulaye Baarati opening business

Always Kabhi Kabhi was poor on day on with around 30 lakhs nett on day one. The film collected very poorly at multiplexes all over. It will be near impossible for the film to do anything at the box office unless it shows miraculous turnaround.

Cycle Kick had extremely low collections all over.

Bin Bulaye Baraati was okay at some single screens but most of these single screens are low grossing as Ready still has the best single screesn across the country. The film is unlikely to do much at the box office overall though some exhibitors in smaller centres may get a good 2 weeks run out of it.

The first day business of Bin Bulaye Baraati was somewhere in the 50-60 lakhs range and around 90% of this coming from single screens.

Bheja Fry 2 opening day business

Bheja Fry 2 had a pretty good first day of around 2-2.25 crore nett as per early estimates thanks to good business at high end multiplexes of urban areas. The prime multiplexes of PVR and Inox chains have done well. The success of the earlier Bheja Fry at good multiplexes has helped Bheja Fry 2 at these places.

The big circuits have performed pretty well with East Punjab grossing 24 lakhs nett and Delhi/UP giving 50 lakhs and Mumbai as per early estimates should come out at around 85 lakhs nett. Mysore is another good circuit for the film. Basically any area which has prime multiplexes has done well while areas which don't are weak.

Although the reviewers have not been kind to Bheja Fry 2 like its predecessor, the public seems to have been more kinder and it looks like Bheja Fry 2 will cross the business of Bheja Fry in four days.

Ready two week total business

Ready was super strong in week two with collections around 32.25 crore nett taking its two week total 101.50 crore nett. The drop from week one was just 53% which is excellent for a huge release like Ready. BLOCKBUSTER

Shaitaan held steady on the weekdays and collected around 5 crore nett but collection is still well below the mark.

Bheja Fry 2 Movie Review - Komal Nahta

Vinay Pathak is on a cruise on which rich businessman Kay Kay Menon is also there. Kay Kay mistakes Vinay to be the IT officer who is snooping on him. Circumstances make Vinay and Kay Kay spend a day together marooned on an island. Find out more in the review of Bheja Fry 2.

Business Rating: 1/5 star

Star cast: Vinay Pathak, Minissha Lamba, Kay Kay Menon, Suresh Menon, Amole Gupte.

What’s Good: The performances of the actors.

What’s Bad: The comedy which is hardly funny; the childish script.

Verdict: Bheja Fry 2 is not at all a worthy successor to Bheja Fry.

Loo break: Several in the second half.

Watch or Not? Watch it for the performances.

Watchtower Pictures’ Bheja Fry 2 (UA) is a sequel to Bheja Fry. Bharat Bhushan (Vinay Pathak) is the same old dim-witted income-tax officer with a clean conscience. He wins a television game show and is invited on a cruise by the show producers who are celebrating the success of the very demanding game show. Kapoor (Rahul Vohra), the producer of the game show, also invites his close friend, Ajit Talwar (Kay Kay Menon), to the cruise party. Ajit is a rich businessman whom Kapoor is trying to rope in as the sponsor for his television show. Ajit Talwar is tipped off about an impending income-tax raid on his premises and he makes sure that incriminating documents are removed before the income-tax sleuths come in.

On the cruise, Ajit Talwar mistakes Bharat Bhushan to be the income-tax officer who is following him but it is actually M.T. Shekharan (Suresh Menon), a colleague of Bharat Bhushan, who has come on the cruise with the intention of tracking Ajit Talwar. Since Talwar thinks, Bharat Bhushan is that income-tax officer, he has secret cameras installed in his room on the ship so that he would be aware of the income-tax department’s every move. With the aid of those cameras, Kapoor and Talwar realise that Bharat Bhushan has a soft corner for Ranjini (Minissha Lamba), the executive producer of the game show. Talwar, a married man, also falls for Ranjini.

Ajit Talwar has Bharat Bhushan drugged and thrown into the sea (with a life jacket) so that he would be out of his (Talwar’s way). But before Bharat Bhushan is thrown off, Talwar himself falls into the sea. Both of them wake up on a deserted island and are forced to spend a day together before help arrives. During that time, Ajit Talwar realises how good and noble a soul Bharat Bhushan is. He also realises his folly in assuming Bharat Bhushan to be snooping on him. Meanwhile, M.T. Shekharan reaches the island in pursuit of Ajit Talwar before the rescue team of Kapoor reaches there. On the island, Talwar, Bhushan and Shekharan meet Raghu Burman (Amole Gupte) and the two income-tax officers unwittingly blow up his house in an explosion.

Bheja Fry 2 Review – Script Analysis

Sagar Ballary’s story is juvenile and the screenplay, penned jointly by Sharad Kataria and Sagar Ballary, looks like a mere assemblage of scenes meant to tickle the funny bone. But the unfortunate part is that the scenes hardly evoke laughter. The post-interval portion, especially, is quite scattered and even boring. Also, logic has been given a go-away. For instance, when an income-tax raid is on the cards, why would an officer of the department follow the person being raided? Frankly, why would a person, who is aware that an income-tax raid is imminent, leave the city unless he is fleeing with some incriminating documents? Wouldn’t he want to stay back to take charge of things? Also, Ajit Talwar having Bharat Bhushan thrown into the sea seems ridiculous because it is a departmental raid, not a personal raid he fears. And when there’s no hanky-panky business transaction he is going to do on the cruise, why is he so paranoid about the income-tax officer? Rather, armed with the knowledge of the presence of the income-tax officer on the ship, wouldn’t a smart man try to brainwash him into believing that he is above board? The entire tracks of Bharat Bhushan’s Viru chacha (Virendra Saxena) having an affair with a foreigner and of Raghu Burman are either too weird and unconnected or too outlandish to make any impact or create any mirth. Even Bharat Bhushan’s romantic overtures towards Ranjini fail to entertain. Dialogues (Sharad Kataria), which ought to have been the mainstay of the drama, are good only at places. The verbal duels between Bharat Bhushan and Shekharan have witty dialogues but they are also class-appealing.

Bheja Fry 2 Review – Star Performances & Direction

Vinay Pathak does full justice to his role. He essays the character of Bharat Bhushan to perfection. Kay Kay Menon is very natural. Except in a couple of scenes, when he goes slightly overboard, his acting is praiseworthy. Minissha Lamba gets limited scope and goes through her role efficiently. Suresh Menon performs very well. Amole Gupte suffers on account of his weird characterisation. Rahul Vohra is okay. Aditi Gowitrikar, Rukhsar, Amit Behl and Virendra Saxena provide fair support. Rahul Singh has been wasted.

Sagar Ballary’s direction is average. That the script is dull is true but even his narrative style lacks the chutzpah needed for a film of this kind. Background music (Sagar Desai) is okay. Music (Sneha Khanwilkar) is fair. The lyrics of the single song (by Shakeel) are average. Parixit Warrier’s cinematography is nice. Editing (Suresh Pai) is okay.

Bheja Fry 2 Review – Komal Nahta’s Verdict

On the whole, Bheja Fry 2 is not at all a worthy sequel to Bheja Fry. Since the film, designed as a comedy, does not create too much laughter, it will fail to make its mark at the box-office.

Always Kabhi Kabhi Movie Review - Komal Nahta

Four school-friends, Ali, Giselli, Satyajeet and Zoa, have some or the other problem with their parents. Ali and Giselli love one another but cracks develop in their relationship. Zoa hates Satyajeet at first but then desperately tries to make amends for her rude behaviour towards him. All the four finally join forces to educate their parents about giving children a free hand in matters of career choices. Read the review of Always Kabhi Kabhi to find out more.
Business Rating: 1/5 star

Star cast: Ali Fazal, Giselli Monteiro, Satyajeet Dubey, Zoa Morani, Satish Shah, Lilette Dubey, Vijay Raaz, Akash Khurana, Navneet Nishan, Mukesh Tiwari, Manoj Joshi, Shah Rukh Khan (special appearance).

What’s Good: Two songs; some light moments; some performances.

What’s Bad: The routine subject; lack of heartwarming moments; lack of comedy; disjointed screenplay.

Verdict: Always Kabhi Kabhi will not get the audience’s love.

Loo break: Not really.

Watch or Not?: Watch it if you like to see newcomers and new talent.

Eros International and Red Chillies Entertainment’s Always Kabhi Kabhi (UA) is about a group of four friends who are studying in the same school, St. Mark’s. Sameer alias Sam (Ali Fazal), Aishwarya (Giselli Monteiro), Tariq Naqvi (Satyajeet Dubey) and Nandini alias Nandy (Zoa Morani) are buddies studying in the same school. Each of them has one or the other problem with one or both of his/her parents. Sam does not get along with his father. Tariq’s father is obsessed with having his son study MIT at any cost even if Tariq himself is not so keen. Aishwarya’s mother wants her to become a model and ultimately an actress but the daughter has her own aspirations. Nandini’s parents have no time for her. In other words, all the four friends come from dysfunctional families.

Sam and Aishwarya are fond of each other but a crack develops in their relationship. Tariq is fond of Nandini but she doesn’t really care and, in fact, quite hates him. However, one incident changes her opinion about Tariq and she actually asks an agitated Tariq to forgive her and become friends with her.

The school in which the four are studying is participating in an inter-school competition of Shakespeare’s plays. Aishwarya and Sam are cast in Romeo & Juliet and, much to everyone’s joy, St. Mark’s is selected in the semi-final round. Before the final round, Aishwarya meets with an accident and has to be hospitalised. Nandini is now selected for the play.

But even before the semi-final round, Sam and Aishwarya have a fight as the latter thinks that Sam is selfish. The truth, however, is that Sam had gotten himself arrested in a police raid on a pub just so that his other friends could escape arrest. The misunderstanding is cleared during their performance in the semi-final round and Aishwarya apologises to Sam for her behaviour. Still, she is not aware that the two investigating police officers (Mukesh Tiwari and Manoj Joshi) had demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000 from Sam to hush up the case.Sam wants to win the drama competition so that he can pay the bribe from the prize money but since Aishwarya is unaware of the bribe angle, she again thinks that Sam is selfish and has a commercial motive to participate in the drama.

Even as relationships are strained and efforts are being made to cement relationships at different levels, Nandini chances upon Aishwarya’s thoughts about life, which she (Aishwarya) has documented. Instead of a play of Shakespeare, Sam, Tariq and Nandini now decide to perform on those thoughts – and they do so. They are also joined by Aishwarya. Through the drama and dance, the four convince their parents that children should not be pressurised and should be allowed to pursue their dreams.

Always Kabhi Kabhi Review – Script Analysis

Roshan Abbas and Ranjit Raina’s story is hardly inspiring or exciting and not just because 3 Idiots and F.A.L.T.U. had similar story-lines. Although the film is a love story, the romantic tracks are not heart-warming. Because of this, the audience does not root for the lovers to unite; and they also don’t feel sorry when the lovers separate.

The screenplay, penned by Roshan Abbas, Ranjit Raina and Ishita Moitra, is far from convincing. The very prospect of watching four young and promising people from dysfunctional families is depressing, more so because the other entertaining portions in the drama aren’t as entertaining or enjoyable as they ought to have been. Also, a lot of what the writers probably wanted to convey has not come on the screen, perhaps, because it has remained in their minds. Because of this, the screenplay looks far less cohesive than what it should’ve been. Too much importance is given to the inter-school drama competition in the final round of which, in any case, the main protagonists go ahead and do something they were never meant do do!

If the romance fails to touch the heart, it is the scattered screenplay which is to blame. Likewise, the parents shedding tears in the climax looks rather unbelievable because the audience does not experience the same emotions. The misunderstanding between Sam andAishwarya looks too contrived, thereby diluting the impact. Had Sam taken his friends into confidence, there would’ve been no misunderstandings in the first place. Since the friends were partying together in the pub at the time of the police raid, it would’ve been completely in order for Sam to reveal what had happened to him. In fact, it seems rather strange that his friends, who fled the scene, didn’t even bother to find out about how Sam had escaped.

All in all, the screenplay leaves a lot to be desired. The point it makes about the need to give children a free hand is good but the way in which it arrives at the point is not interesting. Dialogues (Roshan Abbas and Ishita Moitra) are nice at places.

Always Kabhi Kabhi Review – Star Performances & Direction

Ali Fazal acts reasonably well but he is not hero material. Giselli Monteiro is wooden and hardly impressive. Debutante Zoa Morani is the best among the four romantic lead actors. She performs naturally and makes up for her lack of heroine looks. Satyajeet Dubey makes a fair debut; he acts quite well but needs to work harder on his voice modulation and dialogue delivery. Lilette Dubey is splendidly natural. Vijay Raaz acts very ably. Akash Khurana performs well. Navneet Nishan makes a mark. Satish Shah stands his own in the few scenes he has. Mukesh Tiwari and Manoj Joshi are effective. Ashwin Mushran does a fine job. Shah Rukh Khan star and glamour value in a special appearance in the Antenna song.

Roshan Abbas’ debut attempt at direction is okay. Given the weak script, there wasn’t much he could do but having said that, it must be added that his narrative style is more class-appealing than mass-appealing. Music is good but a hit musical score was the requirement for this teenage love story. The Antenna (music Pritam Chakraborty) and title song (music Aashish Rego) have pace and appeal and their picturisations (Bosco-Caesar and Feroze Khan) are also youthful. The Antenna song has been picturised in two versions, which is good, but both the versions are shown back-to-back, which is definitely not a good option. Action scenes (Parvez Khan andFiroz Boss) are okay. Camerawork (Anshuman Mahaley and Fuwad Khan) is very nice.Editing (Sanjay Sharma) could’ve been better. Production values are of a good standard.

Always Kabhi Kabhi Review – Komal Nahta’s Verdict

On the whole, Always Kabhi Kabhi neither has the warmth and emotions of a teenage love story nor the entertainment value and music of a romantic drama. It will not be able to make much of a mark at the box-office.

Salmaan Khan goes No. 1 in Boxofficeindia Star Rankings

I remember the time when BOI launched its star ranking criteria to measure the star power of bollywood actors. The biggest surprise it had was Salmaan Khan not in the top 10. But soon Dabangg released the film had the biggest opening ever Salmaan Khan came on 5th no. in this list.
He was the no.1 star last year but overall he remained on 5th position.

But now again with the mind boggling opening of Ready Salmaan Khan has jumped.... and jumped to number 1 position leaving Aamir Khan behind to no 2 who was earlier holding the seat from a long time.

Salman Khan also made strides in the Worldwide rankings with Ready and is now in number 3 position after Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan. Ready did not help him in the Overseas star power rankings as the opening was not that great.
