BodyGuard Music Review - Joginder Tuteja

EXPECTATIONS

It's the wave factor. When the going is good, everything starts seeming great. And when the packaging is right, you expect the end product to be excellent. You want things to work. Period. And this is where the core strength of 'Bodyguard' lies. With Ready, Dabangg and Wanted behind him, Salman is having everything going his way. So when he ropes in Himesh Reshammiya to compose music for the film and has Kareena Kapoor for company, you brace yourself to listen to a chartbuster soundtrack. Add to that Katrina Kaif's presence for an item number and you know that this album will certainly get a 'huge opening'!

MUSIC

It is a Rajnikanth beginning for the album with the title song 'Bodyguard' composed, written and sung in the same way as the Superstar is introduced in his movies down South (save a Robot which didn't start on a characteristic note). Nevertheless, this Shabbir Ahmed written track has chartbuster written all over it with the kind of lyrics that amalgamate on and off screen image of Salman to perfection. So while he is referred to as 'bhaijaan' and a 'true Indian', even Salman makes a brief appearance with his trademark dialoguebaazi. 'Band of Power' gives further voice to the song which surprisingly doesn't have a female voice even though Katrina would be gyrating to the thumping beats that take this Himesh Reshammiya composition further. As is the case with every track in the album, this one too has a 'remix' to boast of.

There is a twist in the tale soon after with guest composer Pritam bringing on a softer tune with 'I Love You'. Now this is the kind of a romantic melodious number that takes one back to mushy old days of Salman when he had quite a few such numbers to his credit in films like Kahi Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye, Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke. However there is a nice Pritam touch to it as well as he adds his own bit to remind audience of the kind of sound that they expect from an Emraan Hashmi track. Hear the middle of the 'antara' portions and you would find the reference points. It is also good to see Pritam experiment with relatively new singers like Ash King and Clinton Cerejo who do quite well to make this Neelesh Misra grow after a couple of hearing. The song is further repeated in a 'remix version' with the same pair of singers though for the unplugged version it is Shaan who takes the centre-stage.

The way 'Desi Beat' begins, it all sounds like a quintessential Punjabi dance number to begin with. In fact for the first couple of listening, this Himesh Reshammiya track seems like a regular number that doesn't quite break any new grounds in its structuring, lyrics or singing. However once you have heard it again in the 'remix' as well as 'Punjabi hip hop mix' versions, it starts coming on it's own as one settles down to the mood and rhythm of the song. Expectedly both Mika Singh and Amrita Kak are pretty energetic behind the mike for this song that also has a brief trumpet portion that gives homage to 'Tum Kya Jano, Mohabbat Kya Hai' from Hum Kisise Kum Naheen. This is one of those songs that are elevated further due to star power and with Salman at the helm of affairs, one can be rest assured that he would make it further special.

The best is reserved for the end though with 'Teri Meri' being not just the best of the enterprise but also one of the top songs to have been released this year. This is the kind of song that one terms as 'lambi race ka ghoda' as it it has in it to be heard for months at stretch. A love song with a tinge of sadness to it, Shabbir Ahmed written 'Teri Meri' is sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shreya Ghoshal with their heart as they bring in the kind of pain that the protagonists must be feeling on screen. In fact with this number Himesh Reshammiya makes one all the more miss him as a composer as a few more songs like this would definitely made Bollywood musical scene much better than what it is today. The very fact that the song appears again in a 'reprise', 'remix' and a 'Theme-Instrumental' version is all the more reason to feel truly satiated.

OVERALL

The music of Bodyguard has in it to be hugely popular amongst audience as it has everything for everything. For the lovers of conventional music there is 'Desi Beats' while for Salman's fans there is the title track 'Bodyguard'. And then for those who are hunting for melody which boasts of a much longer shelf life, there is 'Teri Meri' and 'I Love You' (by Pritam) which are all set to rule the charts in days to come. For all these years if composer Himesh Reshammiya was indeed waiting for the right album to make a comeback then well, this is it!

OUR PICK(S)

Bodyguard, I Love You, Desi Beat , Teri Meri

Singham second friday business. Verdict Superhit

Singham was rock steady on its second Friday as it collected around 3.75 crore nett. Most circuits were pretty similar to its Thursday collections while the drop from last Friday is around around 55% plus.

The weekend should be very strong and record collections of at least 15 crore nett, they could even get close to 17 crore nett mark if the mass centres jump on Sunday like they did last Sunday.

The film is now a certain Super Hit and should cross the 45 crore distributor share mark as it has an uninterrupted run until the release of Aarakshan on 12th August.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has strong third friday

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has started the third week on a very strong note. The collections are around 1.65 crore nett on its third Friday which is excellent considering the collections last Friday were 2.70 crore nett. The Friday collections were better than Thursday.

The weekend may finish around 6.75 crore nett which means just a 42% drop from last weekend and it would the be after a long time that a big release is showing less than 50% week on week falls.

Zindagi Na Mile Dobara has collected over 63 crore nett in two weeks and the film is heading for 80 crore nett lifetime business.

Sanjay Dutt's Agneepath look new poster

Shahid to play 'Chota Rajan' & Kareena 'Mandakini' in OUATIM 2

Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Part 2 just got bigger. After casting Akshay Kumar as Dawood, the older version of Emraan Hashmi's character in the first part, producer Ekta Kapoor and director Milan Luthria met up with Shahid Kapoor and asked him to play Chhota Rajan, Dawood's best man turned rival in the film.

The film, that goes on floors early next year, was launched amidst much fanfare at an award function during Diwali last year. A rough image of Akshay Kumar's look in the film was also unveiled during the event. However, the hunt for the other leading men and women for the film was still on.

While there were speculations about the choice of actress to play the role of Dawood's girl Mandakini in the film, nothing so far had been said about the other male lead. "The role of Chhota Rajan is as intense as the one Shahid Kapoor portrayed in Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey. He is a very good actor who has portrayed a wide range of characters till date. He is one of the top choices to play Chhota Rajan," revealed a source.

Akshay will pick up from where Emraan Hashmi left off in the first part. He will take his character forward. Shahid will be the new entrant in the story. "Where there's Dawood, there has to be his arch-rival Chhota Rajan. Shahid has been asked to play a very long and key role in the film," added the source.

However, Ekta's attempt at pulling off a casting coup for the project may face a few hitches. Kareena is said to be one of the leading contenders for the role of Dawood's lover Mandakini, one might wonder whether the actress or Shahid would want to work together again, considering the two did not even want to dub for their film Milenge Milenge together. But then again, Kareena reportedly, has no problem working with Shahid anymore.

Our source said, "Milan had long meetings with Shahid. He explained him the script and the character. Akshay is currently working out to get the rugged look required for him to play Dawood. Shahid too will require to work on his Chhota Rajan avatar."

New Bollywood releases opens to no response, Punjabi film Jihne Mera Dil Luteya rocks Punjab

Bubble Gum, Gandhi To Hitler and Khap all opened to extremely poor houses of around 5%. The films have managed a very poor multiplex release as we have films like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Singham going strong while the programmers at multiplexes this week have preferred the Hollywood releases like Cowboys & Aliens, The Smurfs and The Lion King.

The best opening from Hollywood is for Coyboy & Aliens which had a 20-25% opening. The Smurfs opened at 30-35% but only for the 3D version, the 2D version opened at around the 10-15% mark.

Singham continues phenomenal run in Maharashtra, CP Berer amd Nizam while Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is still number one choice even its third week in Delhi NCR, Kolkata and Bangalore.

The Punjabi film from Tips Industries Ltd Jihne Mera Dil Luteya and directed by Mandeep Kumar has rocked the box office in Punjab today.

The collections were 100% at multiplexes and over 100% at single screens. All over the state the opening was bumper. Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala and even Ambala in Haryana were all huge

The last film from TIPS Mel Karade Rabba was the highest grossing Punjabi film ever and looking at the opening of Jihne Mera Dil Luteya it may challenge that film if it manages to sustain from Monday onwards.

Sanjay Dutt's look in Ra.One

Bulls attacked Vidya Balan on the sets of The Dirty Picture

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan had a horrendous experience while shooting for her keenly awaited film THE DIRTY PICTURE. Vidya balan was wearing a red gown for an outdoor scene being shot in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad.

Apparently two bulls, who happened to stray into the sets had the unit in splits, till they decided to dash towards an amused Vidya, given their attraction for the red on her gown. While co-stars Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor couldn't stop laughing, before the two bulls could get to Vidya, a few local production guys intervened and led the excited animals away.

Akshay keen for doing Singh Is King 2 first then Namastey London 2

Close buddies and business partners Akshay Kumar and Vipul Shah, we hear, are currently at odds over two of their movie sequels. While the actor wants the sequel of Singh is Kinng 2 to be released first, the filmmaker is keen Namastey London 2 hits the screens before that. Confirms a source, "While Vipul is working full-throttle on Namastey London 2, Akshay is eager on doing the Singh Is Kinng sequel first. He feels it has a more global appeal." Apparently, Vipul is more kicked about the Namastey London franchise as he had directed the original, whereas Anees Bazmi had directed Singh Is Kinng for his banner.

Vipul and Bazmi are no longer on good terms, reason being the latter's claim that the film was entirely his brainchild.
When we quizzed Vipul over his supposed dispute with Akshay over the sequels, he admitted Akshay was keener on Singh Is Kinng. "Akshay had made a promise to do a Singh Is Kinng sequel in front of the Indian Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh in Toronto, so he is keen we carry forward the story. I don't mind doing either one first. But yes, I've made more progress with the script of Namastey London 2," he says, adding, "In any case, Akshay needs to grow a proper Sardarji's beard to play Happy Singh again.

For that, he'd first need to finish all his current assignments."
Katrina Kaif, who was the lead actress in both films, says she wouldn't mind doing either sequel first. "I was the 'hero' of Namastey London. That's what we all joked about since the story revolved around me. But, I had great fun doing Singh Is Kinng too. It's their call," she says. Now if only the pals would stop arguing over which comes first!

ZNMD & Singham will be first choice this week also except Punjab

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Singham are likely to dominate the box office again this week apart from Punjab where a Punjabi release will hit collections.

Singham is set to continue its super run in Mumbai, Bihar, CP Berar, CI, Rajasthan and Nizam circuits while Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara will be number one choice in multiplexes of Mumbai city, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore.

In Punjab, a Punjabi film from Tips, Jihne Mera Dil Luteya will release and it has a huge advance with a prime multiplex like Wave Ludhiana being 85% full already for day one.

The new Hindi releases Bubble Gum, Gandhi To Hitler and Khap are totally dependent on word of mouth. The are also three releases from Hollywood in the form of Cowboy & Aliens, The Smurfs and The Lion King but none are likely to form much of an obstacle for Singham or Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

July proved big profitable month for Bollywood

No July in Bollywood's box-office history has raked in as much profits as this month has. Peg it to the youthful appeal of Delhi Belly and Zindagi Na Mile Dobara or the bloody rage of Murder 2 and Singham, but July 2011 brought business worth Rs 210 crore.

Suniel Wadhwa, independent distributor and box office analyst says, "After the box office hit record levels in June with Ready, Double Dhamaal, the good times continued to roll in July. At Rs 210 crore net box office collections, it was the highest-grossing July ever seen in the history of Bollywood, jumping over by 80% from July 2010." and recording an increase of 105% compared to an average six-monthly January-June 2011 monthly box office.

While Salman Khan's Ready contributed to about 40% of the box office collection in the first half of 2011, the collection of July is about 26% of the total of the first half of 2011. The adult certification to films didn't stop audiences from going to cinema halls for Aamir Khan's Delhi Belly and Mohit Suri's Murder 2. Buddhah Hoga Tera Baap was a treat for Amitabh Bachchan fans.

Both producers and exhibitors were worried about the performances of two films-Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Harry Potter which released after the 13/7 terror attack. The audiences surprised them all with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara breaking the previous week release Murder 2's first weekend record and Harry Potter with nearly 80% opening on the first day.

Says Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, "Every film that released in July has broken the previous releases' weekend opening record, from Ready to Singham. This month has broken the myth about audience spending in the first half of the month but this month has been just the opposite. The weekend collection of this month has been nothing less than Rs 120 crore for all the six films and biggest surprise has been the weekday collection at times has beaten the weekend business which one considered to be the time of business of cinema.''

Prices of film tickets have gone up by at least 15% in the last one year but that did not stop the audiences from walking into cinema halls. both multiplexes and single screen cinemas

Theatres all over the country achieved their target even before the month ended. Vishal Anand, head of operations, Fun Cinemas, said, "Most multiplexes achieved their target in the first three weeks of the month and the business that came from the films in the last part was only surplus.

The tone for July was set on the first day of the month itself with Delhi Belly making the cash tills ring. It has been the highest month for cinema sales ever for us at Fun cinemas. The trend continued with Transformers, Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap and then the biggies like ZNMD and Harry Potter," he said. It just blew everyones sales imagination with a good support by Delhi Belly in the 3rd week also. Singham supported the cinemas too. We expected sales to be stronger than June but this has surpassed our expectations. July has been more than 40 per cent than June, which had the highest sales record only to be broken after four weeks only.''

Abhay,Ritesh,Arjun refused to role in Dostana 2

As we all know the sequel of Dostana has been delayed since quite some months but now we hear that the Dostana 2 has been shelved for some reasons.

It is believed that director Tarun Mansukhani reworked on the script as producer Karan Johar wasn't much happy with his earlier draft. But according to sources the main leads Abhishek and John weren't impressed with the reworked script either.

Apart from that the makers are finding difficult to cast actors to play gay characters. It is believed that actors like Abhay Deol, Riteish Deshmukh, Dino Morea and Arjun Rampal were approached to play real gay characters opposite Abhishek and John. But all of them flatly denied.

Dostana 2 stars Katrina Kaif as the female lead. The director who was looking forward to start the film by end of this year has been advised to work on the script yet again. Hope this time things work out in his favour.

Krrish 2 music rights sold for 6 crore

Rakesh Roshan's eagerly awaited Krrish 2 starring Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Chitrangda Singh and Vivek Oberoi seems to be a grosser even before it is ready. Sources reveal that the music of the film, composed by Rajesh Roshan, has been acquired by T-Series for Rs. 6 crore. It must be noticed that the sattelite rights for the movie has been sold to Sony for even bigger price than Ra.One. The news is that the sattelite has gone for huge 38 crore.

It may be recalled that Krrish was labelled a trendsetter as it was one of the highest grossers of 2006. Half a decade later, one is expecting the sequel to once again set the box-office ringing.

Delhi Belly redubbed for TV audiences

DELHI BELLY may be talked about for various reasons, including the colorful language used by the characters in this film, but television viewers will see a diluted version of the film, when it premieres on TV in the near future. In fact, the actors of the film, including the principal cast, have already dubbed their lines for the TV version of the film. "That's true, According to Taran Adarsh (Bollywood Hungama)" DELHI BELLY director Abhinay Deo has informed him, "You can keep a check on audiences when they visit theatres. But can you hold back kids from watching a film when it's aired on TV? That's why we decided to go easy on the dialogue of the film and get them dubbed all over again."

Incidentally, not many are aware that Aamir was keen on dubbing this Hinglish film in four Indian languages -- Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Bhojpuri. While the film was dubbed in Hindi, the plans to dub in Tamil and Telugu were aborted subsequently, since Aamir's friends associated with the South industry informed him that the Hinglish version would suffice. "But the plans of not dubbing the film in Bhojpuri remains a mystery," Abhinay states.

1. My Name Is Khan

Bodyguard may cross the lifetime record of 3 Idiots: BOI

Q. There has been a mixed response to Bodyguard promo on twitter and in general, can it still be huge at the box office?

A. The internet forms a very small segment of the film watching public and Twitter is even smaller. The Bodyguard promo is very cleverly cut as it highlights the action as makers know its a five day weekend and action helps hugely with initial. Bodyguard is all about getting the public to connect with the love story in the film and hit music then even 3 Idiots lifetime business may be possible. An action love story with hit music is a lethal combination at the box office especially when you the top male and female stars of the time.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Second Friday Business

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara had a good second Friday of around 2.75 crore nett despite the release of Singham. The film only had a one week run at single screens but at multiplexes it gave Singham tough competition despite it being in its second week.

In the North it actually had better collections than Singham on its 8th day at multiplexes while in other metros like Mumbai and Kolkata collections were similar at multiplexes. Outside the metros it is doing average business at multiplexes.

The weekend should go over 10 crore nett and the film is well settled at metro multiplexes and will have a good run until the release of Arakshan in three weeks time. The release of Singham was the biggest obstacle for the film as collections could have dropped sharply but they have held up well and now no competition for three weeks. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobora will cross 60 crore nett in two weeks.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Verdict Hit,Murder 2 two & Delhi Belly three week total business

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara had an excellent first week of around 45 crore nett thanks to super strong business at metro multiplexes. The 8th day was also good at metro multiplexes and the film is set for a good run at these places and possibly a finish of over 70 crore nett. HIT

Murder 2 dropped in its second weekend as it grossed around 8.50 crore nett taking its two week total to 43.50 crore nett. This week will see a huge drop as it lost its single screens to Singham but it is the second biggest hit of the year after Ready. BLOCKBUSTER

Delhi Belly fetched 4.50 crore nett in its third week taking its total to 55 crore nett in three weeks. SUPER HIT

source: http://www.boxofficeindia.com/boxdetail.php?page=shownews&articleid=3218&nCat=box_office_report

Singham starts well at single screens and average at multiplexes

Singham started extremely well at around 90% in single screens and was average at multiplexes with 50-60%. OverallLink the opening was good but the low start at multiplexes will hurt first day all India collections. The film is being appreciated in some areas but in others not so much. The good single screen turn out should ensure success but how big will depend on what happens at multiplexes over the next week or so.

Singham Movie Review - Komal Nahta

Ajay Devgan is an upright police officer and Prakash Raj, a rogue of a businessman who doubles up as a politician who is elected to power in Singham. It’s a fight to finish between the two. Prakash has the support of the system and the police while Ajay finds himself with almost no help. Find out more in the full review.

Business rating: 4.5/5 stars

Star cast: Ajay Devgan, Kaajal Aggarwal, Prakash Raj, Ashok Saraf, Sonali Kulkarni, Govind Namdeo, Ashok Samarth.

What’s Good: Fast-paced screenplay; out-of-the-world confrontation scenes; extraordinary dialogues; performances par excellence; superb action.

What’s Bad: Nothing really!

Verdict: Singham is a surefire hit, packed with power-packed performances, powerful dialogues and wonderful dialogues.

Loo break: None at all.

Watch or not?: Cent percent, watch it! And if you want to double your enjoyment, watch it with a big group of friends and family.

Reliance Entertainment’s Singham (UA) is the story of an honest police officer and his fight against a notorious businessman-turned-politician. Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgan) is a principled police officer of Shivgad on the Maharashtra-Goa border. He is much loved by the people of Shivgad because of his honesty, integrity, sense of fair play and ever helpful nature. Jaykant Shikre (Prakash Raj) is a wily businessman living in Goa. He has a couple of businesses but his major earnings come from extortion, kidnappings and the like. He murders people without batting an eyelid but the arm of law has not reached him because of his connections. He has gotten into politics and has a number of police officers serving him and covering up his illegal activities.

Jaykant Shikre gets bail in one such criminal case in Shivgad but he is required to mark his presence in the Shivgad police station for 15 days. Used to sending his stooges to sign on his behalf, Shikre does the same this time but Singham, the inspector in charge of the Shivgad police station, will not allow anyone except Shikre to sign. Shikre is forced to step down from his high horse and come all the way to Shivgad to mark his presence lest he be arrested. At Shivgad, there’s a war of words between Singham and Shikre. Obviously, Shikre feels humiliated and he swears revenge.

Soon, Singham is transferred to Colva police station in Goa. To his horror, he realises that Shikre has got him transferred there to extract revenge. Shikre now openly challenges Singham and tortures him physically and mentally. The area DSP (Murali Sharma) is Shikre’s paid stooge and thwarts all attempts by Singham to bring Shikre and his men to book. Singham’s girlfriend, Kavya (Kaajal Aggarwal), stands behind Singham like a rock and, in fact, encourages him to stay on and fight Shikre when he (Singham) loses all hope and wants to quit Colva. There’s another solid reason why Singham stays back: the little son, Nitin (master Agasthya Dhanorkar), of late police officer Rakesh Kadam (Sudhanshu Pandey) pleads with him to stay back as he fears for the safety of his mother (Sonali Kulkarni). Rakesh Kadam, an upright police officer, had been victimised by Jaykant Shikre and had committed suicide as he couldn’t bear the ignominy of being branded as a corrupt police officer. His seniors had not supported him in spite of being aware of his innocence. His widow had been knocking the doors of the DGP (Pradeep Welankar) and minister Anant Narvekar (Anant Jog) to reopen her deceased husband’s case so that he could be proven not guilty. But, of course, the entire police force and the ministers were unsympathetic towards her.

What happens then? Does Singham decide to stay on at Colva? Is he able to prove Shikre’s crimes? Is his mission rendered more difficult when Shikre is elected to power? Is Singham allowed to take action against Shikre or does Shikre prove to be one up on him? What does minister Anant Narvekar do? What is the stand of the DGP, the DSP and the battery of police officers of Goa?

Singham Review – Script Analysis

The film is a remake of the Tamil film of the same name. Yunus Sajawal’s screenplay is fast-paced, especially once the drama between Singham and Shikre begins with their first confrontation. The earlier part of the film is devoted to establishing the characters of Singham, his parents, the local people of Shivgad, Shikre, Kavya and her family members who come to Shivgad from Goa, etc. While some portions of this part are very interesting, the other portions, especially the romantic drama between Singham and Kavya, aren’t equally so. Even the romantic portions have their highs and lows – some parts are entertaining, others are less entertaining. The pace picks up once Singham objects to Shikre’s man signing the register at the police station. From there on, the screenplay is so taut and engrossing that there’s not even a second when the viewer would want to take his eyes off the screen. The drama is both, thrilling and entertaining – thrilling because of the high-voltage drama between Singham and Shikre, and entertaining because of the comedy, mainly by Shikre. In other words, Sajawal’s screenplay after the romantic portion is established, is outstanding. Farhad-Sajid’s dialogues are brilliant and many of them will draw thunderous applause from the audience. In fact, each and every confrontation scene between Singham and Shikre is bound to bring the house down, so wonderful are the sequences and so powerful are the dialogues. No doubt, several dialogues are spoken in Marathi but even if they can’t be understood by the non-Marathi speaking population, they will be enjoyed by that section because the context of those dialogues will be clear even without knowledge of the language. Also, the Marathi dialogues don’t come in the way of the comprehension of the drama.

Among the other scenes – besides the confrontation scenes – which would evoke huge rounds of applause and whistles from the audience are the one in which Singham and his loyalist subordinates get even with minister Anant Narvekar, the one in which they walk out of his cabin and the doorkeeper salutes them, the scene when Singham confronts his senior (the DSP), the scene when Singham confronts the DGP and other corrupt police officers at the police carnival, the scene in which Singham tears off the FIR, the scene when the police officers leave the carnival and reach where Singham is, the scene in which the people of Shivgad damage all the cars of Jaykant Shikre etc. It may be reiterated that besides the above, every single scene in which Singham and Shikre come face to face is clapworthy, including the election speech scene and the car bomb scare scene thereafter. The comic scenes of Kavya’s father, Gautam alias Gotya (Sachin Khedekar), are also very entertaining.

The climax is just too wonderful and will bring the house down with laughter (in Shikre’s house) and simultaneously draw huge rounds of applause.

Singham Review – Star Performances

If the screenplay and dialogues are par excellence, the performances of the actors are out-of-the-world! Ajay Devgan, it would seem, was born to play this role. He is absolutely extraordinary as Singham and breathes fire in the scenes of confrontation with Shikre, his seniors and the minister. He is suitably mellow in the romantic scenes. This is one of the best ever performances of Ajay Devgan in his entire career and he would be a strong contender this year for the best actor award for this film. Kaajal Aggarwal may not be very beautiful but she acts with effortless ease. Her performance is good. Prakash Raj is mind-blowing as Jaykant Shikre. He lives his role and does such a great job of it that it is difficult – nay, impossible – to imagine anybody else in that role. It would not be one bit of a surprise if he picked up all the awards for the best villain. Both, Ajay and Prakash Raj make use of their eyes and body language so beautifully that it’s a delight to watch them together on screen. Ashok Saraf is first-rate as policeman Shiwalkar. He has some weighty dialogues that will win him fans. Sachin Khedekar is wonderful and his ring tone (‘Dhinka chika’) comedy is lovely. Sonali Kulkarni is excellently restrained. Anant Jog does a splendid job as the corrupt minister and his ‘Nonsance’ (‘nonsense’) dialogue is very entertaining. Pradeep Welankar shines as the DGP, especially in the climax. Ashok Samarth is extraordinary as Jaykant Shikre’s deputy, Shiva. His performance is also memorable. Murali Sharma leaves a lovely mark as the DSP. Govind Namdeo has his moments as Singham’s lovable father. Vineet Sharma (as sub-inspector Phadnis) and Ankur Nair (as sub-inspector Abbas) are endearing. Vijay Patkar (as Kelkar), Jaywant Sawarkar (as Kavya’s grandfather), Suchitra Bandekar (as Kavya’s grandmother), Suhasini Deshpande (as Kavya’s mother), Sana Khan (as Kavya’s sister, Anjali), Harry (as Nandu), Hemu Adhikari (as the old father of the dead Pappu), Meghna Vaidya (as Singham’s mother) and Ravindra Berde lend able support. Kishore Nandlaskar is terrific in a small role (of the corrupt minister’s doorkeeper). Master Agasthya Dhanorkar is cute and shines as little Nitin. Sudhanshu Pandey is pretty dignified.

Singham Review – Direction & Music

Rohit Shetty deserves kudos for his superb direction. His narration is remarkable and credit to him for making the action film so entertaining and engrossing. His biggest victory lies in making the action film seem like an emotional-action drama because it is the strong emotional undercurrent which comes across loud and clear all through the action fare. It is for this very reason that besides the masses and the menfolk, even girls and ladies will adore this action film and even applaud it with loud cheers and claps. Jai Singh Nijjar’s action scenes and stunts are enjoyable, entertaining and engrossing. The masses, especially, will simply love the stunts. Music (Ajay-Atul) could’ve been better as the absence of a hit song is felt. Nevertheless, the title track has its own beauty and it creates a huge impact when it comes at various points in the background. Badmaash dil is good and Maula is also fair. Song picturisations (Ganesh Acharya) go with the mood of the film. Swanand Kirkire’s lyrics are nice. Background music, by Amar Mohile, is splendid. The use of the ‘Singham’ chorus in the background is just too wonderful. Dudley’s cinematography is first-rate. Narendra Rahurikar’s sets are appealing and the sets on which the songs have been picturised are eye-filling and grand. Editing (Steven Bernard) is very sharp.

Singham Review – Komal Nahta’s Verdict

On the whole, Singham is a powerful action-emotional drama which boasts of equally powerful dialogues and absolutely power-packed performances. It’s a super-hit and will be loved by the masses and the classes, the men and the women, the young and the old, the rich and the poor. It is the kind of film which consumes the viewer and gives him the feeling that he was part of the fight against corruption! The film has immense repeat-value. Its business in Maharashtra will get a further boost because of the liberal use of Marathi in the dialogues.

Poonam Pandey is offered 2 crore for Bog Boss 5

Controversial model Poonam Pandey, who promised to shed her clothes if India won the cricket World Cup but didn't do so, has reportedly been offered a whopping Rs 2 crore for the next season of Bigg Boss as her presence is expected to add spice and boost TRPs.

Reveals a source, "Poonam has been offered a signing amount of Rs. 2 crore for 'Bigg Boss' season five, but the model is considering whether to accept the offer or not."

"Apart from this handsome amount, there is a contract mentioning that an ex-cricketer (one of the contestants) during the show will ask Poonam to fulfill the promise which she made during the World Cup. Because of this clause Poonam is still thinking about the offer," the source added.

The 21-year-old caught the headlines after she said she would strip in the green room if India won the World Cup. India won, but for various reasons Pandey couldn't fulfil her promise.

Singham Pre Release Prediction - Gautam Batra

Singham is an upcoming hindi action film starring Ajay Devgan & Kajal Aggarwal in the lead. The film is directed by Rohit Shetty & is the remake of Tamil 2010 successful film Singam.

Lets start with the prediction:

1. The promos are liked by the target audience of the film i.e masses. The music has not put much impact.

2. The film is believed to be highly action packed film which the indian audience specially masses are fond of. The film shows muscular look of Ajay devgan which is impactful & will attract audience.

3. The film has very much massy appeal so it will appeal to the audience in small cities. It will open hugely in the single screens but will hardly find any audience in multiplexes and big cities due to lack of classy appeal, hit music and ZNMD having an excellent run in high end & small multiplexes.

On the whole Singham will have an good opening overall due to a lot of massy appeal but will not be extraordinary because it will not find enough audience in multiplexes. Opening of 6-7 crore can be expected easily.

Note: The prediction is my own idea and accurate to best of my knowlege about the movies. Boxoffice result can be some times different due to the uncertainity.

Shahrukh shows his insensitivity towards mumbai blasts

Shah Rukh Khan is under the radar again! And this time it's going to be an unpleasant experience as many a Mumbai-ite boo him and his actions.

He may have expressed his disappointment about the Mumbai blasts on his micro-blogging site (SRK tweeted: En route india and mumbai...I am devastated and saddened by the loss in my city. May Allah bless us..want to be there as quickly as possible), however, once he came to Mumbai - three days post the unfortunate terror strike, SRK is known to have thrown a party at his residence.

If sources are to be believed, it was a gathering of friends from the film fraternity who were invited to celebrate the success of 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara'. And guess what? Most of Bollywood turned up - from the Ambanis to the Hrithik Roshans, everyone graced the occasion.

Some Mumbai-ites have termed this 'bash' to be a symbol of 'insensitivity' and 'hypocrisy' (considering his tweet!)! But we guess, in a democracy there's even place for such hypocrisy!
