OMG Oh My God! Boxoffice Pre Release Prediction - Gautam Batra

OMG Oh My God is an upcoming Bollywood comedy drama film directed by Umesh Shukla, and produced by Akshay Kumar. The film features Paresh Rawal in lead role, with Akshay Kumar in a cameo and Mithun Chakraborty also playing an integral part. OMG Oh My God is adapted from a highly acclaimed Gujrati play named "Kanji Virrudh Kanji". It also includes influences of Paresh Rawal's Hindi play "Krishan vs Kanhaiya". The film is scheduled to release on 28 September 2012

Lets start with the prediction...

1. OMG Oh My God trailers & music have got decent response from audience.

2. Good promotional strategy has lead to good buzz.

3. Akshay Kumar has an extended cameo role in movie which  will play significant role in boosting collections at some level on first day, though it will not take huge opening due to lack of face value in lead roles.

4. It's not a solo release. Kamaal Dhamaal Malaamal which is also of almost  same genre is releasing along with OMG and that will not let the movie take proper screen space. Another movie Deewana Main Deewana is releasing on same day but it will not harm in any way. Also Barfi which is having super strong run in Big City Multiplexes will dent the collections.

Overall OMG Oh My God will mainly depend on Word Of Mouth and is unlikely to take good opening at boxoffice. First day could be in the range of 5-6 crore nett.

Disclaimer:The prediction is my own idea gathered from the surveys & buzz about the movies. It is accurate to best of my knowledge but the final boxoffice figures can be sometimes different due to uncertainity in boxoffice. The figures given are the nett domestic figures.

Barfi! Hit, Heroine decently well in overseas

Heroine did fair business in overseas collecting around $1.4 million. The weekend collections from the major markets are as follows.

United Kingdom - £150,000

North America - $390,000

UAE - $425,000

Australia - $75,000

Barfi! is a hit in overseas thanks to its business in North America. The film may cross $3 million in that market and it is already the biggest grosser of 2012 in North America. The final overseas business will cross $5 million. The collections from the major markets for ten days are as follows.

United Kingdom - £485,000

North America - $1,980,000

UAE - $975,000

Australia - $290,000

Raaz 3 will finish at around $1.25 million from overseas which is not bad as it did not release in UAE.

Barfi business till second weekend

Barfi! collected strongly in its second weekend with collections around 15 crore nett taking its total to 71.50 crore nett approx. The second weekend collections are on par with big films like Agneepath and Bol Bachchan. The only films to have a better second weekend this year are Rowdy Rathore, Housefull 2 and Ek Tha Tiger.

The collection are excellent especially in Mumbai, Delhi/Up and Mysore. Mumbai circuit collected around 5.50-5.75 crore nett in the second weekend while Delhi/UP was around 3.50 crore nett and Mysore was around 1.25 crore nett. In Mysore it may emerge amongst the top five grossing films of all time.

The film is likely to hold up strongly in the next few weeks as it is mainly small films which will hit the theatres for the next three weeks or so.

Heroine weekend business

Heroine had a decent weekend of around 22.50 crore. The first day was around 7 crore nett, second day was 7.25 crore nett and third day was 7.75-8 crore nett.

The film had a good start on Friday but failed to capitalise with collections going nowhere on Saturday and Sunday. Collections at many places could not reach their Friday levels on Sunday which is not a good sign.

The 22.50 crore nett total is a good sum for such a film but the weekend trending suggests it will find it tough from Monday onwards. The film has not done well in mass belts while business in Mumbai and Delhi NCR is fair.

Barfi shows great growth on second saturday

Barfi! had strong gains on its second Saturday as it collected around 5-5.25 crore nett. The collections are around 8.25 crore nett plus over two days in the second week. The weekend should be around the 15 crore nett range.

The business is extraordinary at high end multiplexes as collections at many premium multiplexes in metros were better than the new release Heroine on Saturday. The film has not done well in smaller circuits with it finding acceptance in just a a hand full of cities in places like Bihar, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan.

The metro multiplexes will keep on going strong for the next few weeks and the film is sure to cross 90 crore nett and depending on what happens in weeks 3-5 it could even hit 100 crore nett.

Heroine shows no growth on Saturday

Heroine failed to show growth on Saturday as it collected similar numbers to its Friday collections. The Saturday collections should be around 6.75-7 crore nett taking the two day business of the film close to 14 crore nett.

The overall numbers are pretty good but the trending on Saturday makes it tough for its long term business. The weekend should be around 22 crore nett which is good but business thereafter is likely to struggle.

The content of the film is not really for the masses so it was important that the metro multiplexes made good gains on Saturday but this did not happen. Although this can be contributed to the mixed reports, it is also likely that Barfi! has made a dent as it is so strong in these multiplexes especially the premium ones.

Barfi eighth day business

Barfi! held up very strongly on its eighth day collections as it collected around 3.25 crore nett. The drop is 60% from day one is excellent for a day eight from day one drop. The norm has been around 70% for some of the biggest hits this year. The film has now collected close to 61 crore nett in eight days.

Mumba, Delhi/UP, East Punjab, West Bengal and Mysore are contributing a lot for the film though in mass centres the film is very low.

Despite a film like Heroine being released which was heavily promoted, Barfi! was large unaffected especially in multiples areas where it is strong. The film should see a good jump over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

source: http://www.boxofficeindia.com/boxnewsdetail.php?page=shownews&articleid=4915&nCat=

Heroine first day business

Heroine had a pretty good first day with collections around 7 crore nett as per early estimates. The film has more than doubled the collections of any film where the only star is the female lead but it also had a very wide release.

The film collected better than Barfi! at mass centres but multiplex collections were 20-25% lower with premium multiplexes being much lower.

The film has mixed reports but should mange to show growth on Saturday especially at premium multiplexes. The multiplex collections were also affected by Barfi! as that film has huge appreciation amongst the multiplex audience and the audience was divided at multiplexes.

Heroine Boxoffice Opening Pre Release Prediction - Gautam Batra

Heroine is an upcoming film directed, written, and co-produced by Madhur Bhandarkar. Revolving around the life of a once successful film actress, Mahi Arora, whose career is on the decline, the film features Kareena Kapoor as the lead along with actors Arjun Rampal, Randeep Hooda and Rakesh Bapat. Additionally, the project also stars Shahana Goswami, Divya Dutta, Helen, Shillpi Sharma, Mugdha Godse and Lillete Dubey in supporting roles. Heroine is scheduled to be released on 21 September 2012.

Lets start with the prediction...

1. Trailers have done the trick with dialogues being really appreciated by the audience. Music has also done fairly well.

2. Buzz is high due to excellent promotional strategy. Also the controversies which have always surrounded Heroine from the day of announcement, has helped to create a good interest among audience.

3. Its a Madhur Bhandarkar movie who is loved by class audience for his style of film-making. With movies like Chandni Bar, Page 3, Traffic Signal & Fashion he has got tremendous appreciation from everyone. So this time expectations are obviously high.

4. Starring Kareena Kapoor in lead role 'Heroine' has good face value too which will help in good initial. Masses may find it less attractive due to women oriented theme but a decent opening can be expected at single screens too.

All in all Heroine is likely to take a strong initial at boxoffice this friday. Although superb run of Barfi & non massy theme may prevent it to do some extraordinary on day 1, But opening of 8.50-9.50 can very well be expected. All the Best to Team Heroine from Team Wassupbollywood.

Disclaimer:The prediction is my own idea gathered from the surveys & buzz about the movies. It is accurate to best of my knowledge but the final boxoffice figures can be sometimes different due to uncertainity in boxoffice. The figures given are the nett domestic figures.

Salman edges out Akshay by paying highest advance tax this year

After a string of Rs. 100 crore plus grossing films capped by his latest blockbuster Ek Tha Tiger, actor Salman Khan has emerged as the highest taxpayer in Bollywood forking out Rs. 8 crore for the September quarter. Salman, 46, trumped all his peers and rivals in the tinsel town paying Rs8 crore in advance tax in July-September this year as compared to Rs. 5 crore in the same period a year ago, an income tax official said here on Tuesday.

Salman’s romantic-action-thriller Ek Tha Tiger will do approximately 187 crore at the box office.
He has also starred in other Rs. 100 crore films like Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard. The film’s female lead and Salman’s rumoured former lady love in real life, Katrina Kaif, paid Rs. 2.6 crore compared to the year ago period’s Rs. 1.70 crore.

Salman’s bete noire Shah Rukh Khan, who has not had any big release this year as yet, had his tax outgo flat at Rs. 5 crore, the official said. Akshay Kumar, another big name in Bollywood, paid Rs. 7.5 crore advance tax in comparison to Rs. 5 crore he had paid last year during the same period, he said.
Among the other Khans, Aamir’s fortunes may have taken a hit by his mega reality show Satyamev Jayate as reflected by his payment of Rs. 3.25 crore as against Rs. 4.50 crore last year.

Saif Ali Khan, whose films Agent Vinod and Cocktail had varying responses at the box office, paid a tax of Rs. three crore compared to Rs. 1.7 crore in the year ago period, the official said.

Kareena Kapoor, who is believed to be getting married to Saif soon and is looking forward to the release of the film Heroine, has paid an advance tax of Rs. 2.20 crore compared to Rs. 1.5 crore she did in the same period last year.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan, who will soon be celebrating his 70th birthday, paid Rs. 5 crore against the Rs. 1.4 crore he paid last year while his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s outgo jumped to Rs. three crore from Rs. 1.1 crore, the official said.

Barfi ! heading towards 90 crore lifetime

Barfi! had a jump on collections on Wednesday as there were holidays in Maharashtra and Karnataka and other places benefited in evening shows as next day is like a holiday due to the bandh. The collections on Wednesday are likely to come in over 7 crore nett which is huge for a Wednesday.

In Mysore the collections on Wednesday were nearly double the collections of Tuesday.

The bandh will hit collections badly on Thursday as multiplexes in most parts of the country will remain closed. At the moment the film looks set to hit 85 crore nett lifetime and could even hit 90 crore nett.

Barfi selling well in Overseas too

Barfi did well overseas as it collected around $2.25 million. It just edged out Raajneeti as Ranbir Kapoor's biggest opener overseas. Raajneeti had collected $2.10 million while Rockstar and Anjaana Anjaani had collected $1.65 million and $1.60 million respectively. The film was best in North America with a taking of over $1 million over the weekend. The collections from the major markets are as follows.

United Kingdom - £230,000

North America - $1,060,000

UAE - $575,000

Australia - $149,000

Raaz 3 has collected around $1 million plus in ten days. The film can be called okay for the genre and a UAE release could have given a decent final result with business of over $1.5 million.

Barfi holds up superbly on Monday

Barfi! had excellent collections on Monday as it dropped just 25% from Friday. The collections on Monday were around 6.50 crore nett as per early estimates. The collections are only behind Ek Tha Tiger, Rowdy Rathore, Agneepath and Housefull 2 for 2012 on a Monday.

The collections at some centres were better on Monday than Friday. Many centres where the opening was not strong saw better figures on Monday. The multiplexes were just excellent as tickets rates come down 20-25% on Monday and collections saw more or less a similar drop meaning similar footfalls to Friday.

The film has grossed over 40 crore nett in five days and with holiday on some parts of the country on Wednesday, the week should finish around 55 crore nett.

Deepika Is the perfect Leela : Ranveer

Deepika Padukone bagged the role of the female lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela (working title) after talks with Kareena Kapoor didn’t materialise. And although the film’s male lead is “disappointed” about not getting to work with Bebo, Ranveer Singh feels Deepika is “the closest” the makers have got to finding the perfect Leela.

“She definitely looks the part better than anyone else. When Bhansali sir and I started working on the film a few months ago, we browsed through lots of books on rural Gujarat.  He would often point to pictures of traditional Gujarati girls and say, ‘This is what Leela looks like’. They are slender, dusky and have sharp features,” says Ranveer.

The actor, who has already started shooting for the film in Gujarat, adds, “It will be exciting to see her in a new avatar because she has mostly played urban roles. Having worked in half-a-dozen films, she has grown in leaps and bounds as an actor. And finally, she has proved herself with Cocktail. And after speaking to her, I’ve realised that she is eager to do roles that require real performances.”

At the same time, Ranveer is also “looking forward to working with Bebo”.

“I found out that she wasn’t doing the film right after my birthday, and it was a big bummer. I hope I get an opportunity to work with her in the future,” says the actor, before quashing rumours of his 4 am friendship with his co-star.

“I don’t know Deepika very well. But we’ll be shooting an intense love story over the next one year, so it would help the film if we got to know each other better. We’re just trying to do that.”

Salman to launch the music of Ishkq In Paris!

Salman Khan either likes you or he doesn’t. And if you’re Preity Zinta, he clearly does. A lot. So, after he kept his earlier promise and appeared in a song in the actor-turned-producer’s film, Ishkq in Paris, he has now gone a step further. The actor has now agreed to unveil the music of the film at an event on Monday.

“It was unexpected. He took everyone by surprise when he agreed to be part of the event,” says a source. The director, Prem Soni, who has worked with Salman in the past in Main Aurr Mrs Khanna (2009), says, “Salman is seen only in one song in the film. Yet, he said he’d be more than happy to be at the event. It was actually Preity’s decision to invite him for the music launch.” We wonder if he might shake a leg at the event as well. Soni says, “Salman attending an event, on its own, is as entertaining as it can be. We’ve not planned anything more than that at this point.” Salman and Preity’s friendship, of course, goes back a long way. Back in 2008-2009, when Preity’s IPL team Kings XI Punjab suffered a major financial loss, it was Salman who offered her a helping hand.“Salman has always been a great friend. When I was facing a financial crisis during the IPL, he was the only one from the industry to offer help. Though I managed to recover from the crisis myself, he was a great support,” says Preity.

Barfi has great weekend

Barfi had an excellent weekend of around 34 crore nett as per early estimates. The film opened very well at multiplexes on Friday and the multiplexes which opened lower jumped huge either on Saturday and Sunday. By Sunday the film was doing well all over apart a from a few single screen dominated areas.

The film was released on around 1300 screens on 700 theatres and these collections are phenomenal for such a release. The occupancies were huge at multiplexes with houses running at capacity or near capacity. Other big openers are being released on 2500 screens nowadays with likes of Ek Tha Tiger even going close to 3500 screens.

The trending on the weekend suggests it will hold up very well on Monday as multiplexes will see very strong collections. The weekend has emerged the biggest for a Ranbir Kapoor starrer edging out the multi-starrer Raajneeti which collected in the 33 crore nett range.

Barfi! opening day business

Barfi! had a good first day collecting around 9 crore nett as per early estimates. The collections were excellent at metro multiplexes and that helped it get to a 9 crore nett total.

Multiplexes outside metros were average and single screens were low. Comparing with Ranbir's last release Rockstar the collections were on par or better in big cities but lower elsewhere. The release was also smaller which kept it one crore nett less than Rockstar.

The film will emerge a success on the strength of big city multiplexes and if other centres can show good growth on Saturday then the film could have a very good run for a couple of weeks.

Barfi! did well in Mumbai city, Pune, Delhi NCR, Kolkata and Bangalore while collections in UP, Bihar, CP Berar, CI, Rajasthan and Gujarat were low.

Barfi Boxoffice Opening Pre Release Prediction - Gautam Batra

Barfi! is an upcoming Indian romantic comedy film directed by Anurag Basu. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz in lead roles. Produced by Ronnie Screwala & Siddharth Roy Kapoor Barfi! is set to release on 14 September 2012.

Lets start with the prediction -

1. Promos & Music has hit the bulls eye. Major part of audience specially youth has really appreciated it.

2. Promotions have been great which has lead to high buzz which is rare in these type of movies.

3. Ranbir after Rockstar is a bigger name then ever before, which has created good curiosity among youth for the movie.

4. Though opening will not be huge because genre is not strong among masses & most of the single screens will run Raaz 3 as the movie is going strong in Mass regions. But we can surely expect a good opening day on the strength of multiplexes.

Wassupbollywood expects Barfi to take a good initial at Boxoffice. It can be anywhere in the range of 8-9 crore nett.

Disclaimer: The prediction is my own idea gathered from the surveys & buzz about the movies. It is accurate to best of my knowledge but the final boxoffice figures can be sometimes different due to uncertainity in boxoffice. The figures given are the nett domestic figures.

Raaz3 starts poorly in Overseas

Raaz 3 could not do much overseas as it collected $450,000 approx. The film was not released in UAE and that hit it hard as it would have been best market and could have added another $250,000 plus.

Joker is as bad in overseas as in India and will close out at $700,000 approx.

The overseas market is in a bad way as North America has shown no growth over the last few years while the UK market is on a downward spiral.

Chakravyuh digs on Tata, Birla,Ambani & Bata?

Prakash Jha's upcoming political thriller Chakravyuh starring Arjun Rampal, Abhay Deol, Esha Gupta, Manoj Bajpayee, Kabir Bedi and Anjali Patil seems to have run into censor trouble. The reason being a song that has lyrics which go 'Tata, Birla, Ambani Aur Bata, Sab Ne Hai Desh Ko Kaata', sung by Kailash Kher and picturised on Abhay Deol.

Apparently, the members of the Censor Board did not pass the song because they felt it was a personal attack on the country's industrialists and intended to defame them. In fact just last week, the track was rejected by the examining committee and later the review committee once again rejected the track citing the same reason.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Prakash Jha argues that though the song contains the names of the industrialists, they have been used to represent a certain mindset and not target any of them.

However, it was only post the makers agreed to put a disclaimer stating that the names have been used symbolically and are not meant to cause any harm or disrespect to any individual or brand, did the censors pass the song.

Chakravyuh releases this Dusshera on October 24.

Raaz 3 has great weekend

Raaz 3 had an excellent Sunday as it collected around 13.50-14 crore nett. the weeeknd of film including paid previews has come out to be be over 35 crore nett. The single screen business was simply huge on Sunday as places like UP, Bihar, Rajasthan etc have really taken to the film.

The multiplexes are also doing well and its the first time that and Emraan Hashmi solo films has put up such numbers at multiplexes.

The weekend numbers are the the sixth best of 2012 after Ek Tha Tiger, Rowdy Rathore, Agneepath, Housefull 2 and Bol Bachchan.

The film is sure to hold up on Monday at single screens and multiplexes should also be pretty good considering the upturn on business on Saturday.

Raaz 3 First Day Business

Raaz 3 had a very good first day on the strength of business in single screens and multiplexes showing the 3D format doing very well. The business of the 2D version in multiplexes was average.

The first day is around 10.25-10.50 crore nett as per early estimates. It is by far the biggest opening for an Emraan Hashmi solo starrer bettering Jannat 2 by around 25%. All circuits have clocked up good numbers and the opening has ensured its success.

The combination on horror and sex has worked hugely in the films favour that even though the music was not ruling the charts it still managed a very big opening.

Raaz 3 Boxoffice Opening Pre Release prediction - Gautam Batra

Raaz 3 is an upcoming Bollywood horror film directed by Vikram Bhatt, and produced by Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt. The film is a sequel to Raaz – The Mystery Continues (2009), which itself was a sequel to Raaz (2002), and features Emraan Hashmi reprising his role from the second film, and with a new addition to the cast, Esha Gupta. Bipasha Basu, who was a part of the first film of the Raaz series, has made a comeback to the series after opting out of the second film.Raaz3 is all set to release on 7 Sept 2012.

Lets start with the prediction....

1. Trailer of the movie has good response from major part of audience but music has been a low key.

2.Promotions have been good which have created good reach & buzz for the movie.

3. Adult content & genre will not get family audience to theatres, so we can't expect bumper opening.

4. Raaz 3 is 3rd part of successful Raaz franchise and that is a big plus for good initial at boxoffice.

5. Emraan's presence in lead role will attract good amount of masses to the cinemas & while it is releasing in 3D prints also, that too will boost up the business on first day.

6. Earlier releases like Shirin Farhad....  & Joker are washouts so Raaz3 will enjoy good screen space.

Overall Raaz3 will take a good initial at boxoffice. First day could be in the range of 7-8 crore nett.

Disclaimer: The prediction is my own idea gathered from the surveys & buzz about the movies. It is accurate to best of my knowledge but the final boxoffice figures can be sometimes different due to uncertainity in boxoffice. The figures given are the nett domestic figures.

Joker sees a drastic fall on Monday

Joker had a heavy fall on Monday as collections were around 65% down from Friday. The Monday collections will be in the 1.50-1.75 crore nett region and it was a similar fall across India.

The fall was expected as the film did not trend well on the weekend which was a must as its target audience was mainly families and kids.

Joker has grossed around 16.50 crore nett in four days and the week will be around 20 crore nett at best.

The film will have the second lowest collections for an Akshay Kumar starrer in the last 5-6 years. The lowest being Tasveer 8x10.

Joker has very low weekend

Joker had a poor weekend as it struggled on Sunday with collections not really improving much from the previous two days.

Sunday collected around 5.75 crore nett giving the film around 15 crore nett for the weekend. The collections were best in the CPCI Rajasthan belt while North India was very low for an Akshay Kumar starrer as multiplexes had very poor collections.

The weekend collections in Delhi/UP were around 2.85 crore nett, East Punjab was 1.30 crore nett, Rajasthan was 90 lakhs nett, CP Berar collected 75 lakhs nett and CI was 70 lakhs nett.

Mumbai circuit will come in at around 5.25 crore nett while the Southern and Eastern circuits registered very low collections.

Ek Tha Tiger jumps high on third saturday

Ek Tha Tiger made huge strides on its third Saturday as it took a huge jump collecting around 2-2.25 crore nett. The collections were double of Friday at many places as the film jumped due to the non performance of Joker.

After Friday it seemed difficult that the film would get a 6 crore nett third weekend but now it will cruise past that total and may possibly even cross 7 crore nett for the third weekend.

Ek Tha Tiger will have collections close to 180 crore nett mark after its third weekend.

Joker shows no jump on Saturday

Joker failed to make much headway on Saturday as collections are likely to come in at the same range as Friday or a little lower. The multiplex business which was low on Friday improved only slightly at places when it really needed a big jump.

The Friday collections were in the 4.75 crore nett range and Saturday will be 4.50-4.75 crore nett giving it a two day total of 9.25-9.50 crore nett.

Sunday should show improvement but its not really going to make much difference to the final theatrical business of the film. The only saving grace for Joker is that its not the normal costly Akshay Kumar starrer.

John & Sriram to come together finally?

After two hits and misses, looks like their third attempt might prove to be more fruitful. Word is that John Abraham is all set to work together with director Sriram Raghavan’s on his next.

On two previous occasions, John and Raghavan were slated to work with each other. While one was to be co-produced by Milan Luthria, the other project was to be produced by Gaurag Doshi and starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in it. Both films however never took off.

While Raghavan rules out that John might act in the film, he confirms that the actor will definitely produce the project. The director says, ““Right now I am still in the scripting process and have not approached any actor for it. It is too early to talk about the project.”

After his action flick Agent Vinod failed to work wonders at the box office, the filmmaker is all set to return to his favourite genre thrillers. Raghavan adds, “Once the scripting is over, we will start the casting process.” When we contacted John Abraham to know if he has been roped in for the project, all he said was, “No comment!”

Ek Tha Tiger third friday business

Ek Tha Tiger took a hit on its third Friday as it lost screens and its extensive release and that too with and extended nine day first week begins to tell.

The film collected in the range of 1.25 crore nett which is around 72% lower than last Friday. The collections now are just a bonus as the film has surpassed the distributor share of Three Idiots in just two weeks to become the highest earner in terms of distributor share in the history of Hindi cinema.

The film has also become the first film in history to cross the 20 crore share mark in Delhi/UP. The nett and gross collections will stay below Three Idiots by around 7-8%

Joker first day business

Joker grossed around 4.75-5 crore nett on its first day as per early estimates. The collections were low all over though the single screen circuits fared better comparatively.

The film will need to show around 30% growth on Saturday and Sunday to have any chance of a decent run at the box office. If the growth is not big on Saturday then theatrical business will not be going far.

The film is one of the lowest openers of Akshay Kumar in the last few years if we take Tasveer 8x10 out of the equation. The other low openers were Action Replay (2010) and Patiala House (2011) which opened to 2.75 crore nett and 4.25 crore respectively.
