Tanu Weds Manu movie Review- Komal Nahta

R. Madhavan falls in love with Kangana Ranaut at first sight, but she is not interested. Madhavan can’t forget her. The two meet again after some days at a wedding. Does Kangana reciprocate Madhavan’s feelings this time? Read the review of Tanu Weds Manu for more.

Business rating: 3.5 stars

Star cast: R. Madhavan, Kangana Ranaut, Deepak Dobriyal, Eijaz Khan, Swara Bhaskar, Jimmy Shergill.

What’s Good: The fast-paced screenplay; the humour; the music; the performances.

What’s Bad: Nothing really.

Verdict: Tanu Weds Manu is a fun film which will rock at the ticket windows.

Loo break: None really!

Watch or Not? Definitely!

Sanjay Singh Films, Soundarya Production and Paramhans Creations’ Tanu Weds Manu (UA) is a cute romantic film. Manu Sharma (R. Madhavan) is a doctor working in London. He is in India to finalise his life partner, for which he, his father (K.K. Raina), mother (Dipti Sharma) and bosom pal, Pappi (Deepak Dobriyal), are bride-hunting. The first girl he sees as a prospective bride is Tanuja Trivedi alias Tanu (Kangana Ranaut) from Kanpur. He sees her under unusual circumstances but falls in love with her at first sight. As pre-decided, the two families embark on a train journey to Vaishno Devi the very next day to celebrate the impending union. To Manu’s shock, Tanu tells him, she is not willing to marry him as she already has a boyfriend. To Manu’s further shock, Tanu smokes cigarettes, consumes alcohol, uses four-letter words at the drop of a hat and is a total rebel. In short, she is the kind of girl he or his parents were definitely not looking for, but yet, Manu has lost his heart to her.

Being the simple, straightforward and sweet guy he is, Manu takes the blame on his head to call off the marriage, thereby saving Tanu’s skin. Aware of her wayward ways, Tanu’s parents accept Manu’s rejection. But Manu is not able to forget Tanu. As fate would have it, he doesn’t find any of the other girls he sees, suitable for himself. Again, as fate would have it, Manu meets Tanu at Kapurthala in Punjab where he goes with Pappi to attend the marriage of their best friend, Jaspreet Singh Shergill alias Jassi (Eijaz Khan). Tanu comes to attend the same wedding as she is the best friend of Payal (Swara Bhaskar), the bride-to-be. Manu, pressurised by Jassi and Pappi, gets closer to Tanu who is now more well-behaved towards him but still smokes, drinks and abuses and is still rebellious in nature. Somehow, the families of Tanu and Manu also land at Kapurthala under the mistaken belief that Tanu and Manu have decided to marry one another.

Manu soon realises, he stands no chance when Tanu invites him for her own marriage with her boyfriend, Raja Awasthi (Jimmy Shergill). Manu knows Raja as an acquaintance but is unaware that Tanu’s to-be husband is Raja or that Raja Awasthi is to be married to Tanu. What happens thereafter? Does Manu win Tanu? Or does he sacrifice his love to ensure that Tanu marries her lover, Raja? Does Tanu ever realise that Manu loved her even after she rejected him?

Story and Screenplay

Himanshu Sharma’s story and screenplay are fresh and very engaging. The best part of the screenplay is that it progresses smoothly and quite logically so that the drama doesn’t bore or dip anywhere. Also, the characters are so interesting and the ambience – whether of Kanpur or Kapurthala – so real that the audience gets the feeling of watching a real and authentic drama unfold on the screen.

The drama has doses of inherent humour, comedy, romance, tension and even emotions in the last part. The characters, especially of Manu, Tanu, Pappi, Jassi and Payal are so endearing that you can’t help but fall in love with them. Manu’s simplicity easily makes him the person whom the audience roots for because his honesty and straightforwardness win them over completely. Tanu’s brashness and the way she makes fun of Manu, whom she keeps referring to as Sharmaji, are endearing, to say the least. There are scenes which are emotional and heartwarming and instances of these are when Manu first announces in Tanu’s house that he approves of Tanu; when he tells Tanu that his falling in love with her was not in his control; when Tanu asks Manu whether he had a pen in the marriage registrar’s court; when the rebellious Tanu announces her verdict in the pre-climax; when Tanu tells Raja Awasthi about her nature, in the climax. All in all, Himanshu Sharma’s story and screenplay are wonderful. His dialogues are gems and add so much weight to the drama. The light-hearted dialogues are very funny and evoke laughter at many places.

Probably, the biggest victory of the writer is that his script comes across as a very honest and straight-from-the-heart attempt, which will not be lost on the viewers.

Star Performances

R. Madhavan does a brilliant job and plays the character of Manu to perfection. He remains in character so wonderfully because of which the entire sympathy of the viewer goes to him. Had he gone overboard in even a few scenes, the impact would never have been the same. Kangana Ranaut is superb as the fiery and foul-mouthed Tanu. She gives a memorable and endearing performance. Deepak Dobriyal is terrific and evokes laughter in a number of comic scenes. He is also superb in emotional and dramatic scenes. Eijaz Khan leaves a mark with his acting. He looks very handsome. Swara Bhaskar deserves distinction marks for her performance. Her diction and dialogue delivery are wonderful. Jimmy Shergill shines as Raja Awasthi. He acts with a rare confidence. Rajendra Gupta excels. Navni Parihar is good. K.K. Raina leaves a mark. Dipti Sharma acts ably. Ravi Kishan does what is required of him in a special appearance. He ought to have been given more scope. Deepak Tokas (as Payal’s brother), Deepak Chaddha (as the marriage registrar), Dr. Rizvi (as Jimmy Shergill’s father), Gurmeet Kaur (as Komal, the girl at Kapurthala, whom Pappi falls in love with) and Archana Shukla (as Tanu’s aunt) lend able support.

Direction, Music and Camerawork

Aanand L. Rai’s direction does the fullest justice to Himanshu Sharma’s script. He has done a swell job of the narration and has also extracted excellent performances from out of his cast members. Krsna’s music is a big asset of the film. Saddi galli, Jugni and Manu bhaiya are excellent songs which have lovely tunes. The Rangrez song has great lyrical value (Raj Shekhar) and has superb melody. Kitne dafe dil ne kaha is another wonderful number. Piya na rahe man basiya is also an entertaining song. Picturisation of the songs by Saroj Khan are interesting; Pony Verma’s choreography of the Manu bhaiya number is cute. The old Kajra mohabbatwala song has been beautifully used in the film. Chirantan Das’ camerawork is lovely. Hemal Kothari’s editing is crisp. Wasiq Khan’s art direction is splendid. Namrata Jani’s costumes deserve special mention.

The Last Word
On the whole, Tanu Weds Manu is a family entertainer which will hit the bull’s eye. It may be a slow starter but it will pick up phenomenally by positive word of mouth and ultimately go on to become a hit.

Tanu Weds Manu Seems Profitable

After the good start of 2011 with almost all the movies in January being profitable for the industry. The Februry was very dull except 'Ye Saali Zindagi' all the movies were disappointments. Only relief now can be 'Tanu Weds Manu'.

Despite of less face value the film has many plus points which can act to make it another success. lets have a look on all the pluses of movie

1 The movie is made in a reasonable budget.
2 The Music of the movie has become very popular especially in north.
3 Film has got pre release reports
4 Positive word of mouth and critical acclaim will also add to it.
5 There will be no big release in March so the film will have a clean run of one month.

After a lot of pluses the most important is that film has got a decent start in India and north was very good. The evening shows picked up as well. Looking at the trends the movie will also get good jump on Saturday & Sunday.

Well, lets hope for the best...........

Tanu Weds Manu Movie Review - Taran Adarsh

I have often observed on my visits to the West that people living overseas are far more seeped in Indian ethnic values, customs, festivities and rituals, when compared to a lot many Indians living in Hindustan. Those who live there believe that by observing and practicing the Indian traditions, they would continue to remain Indian at heart. Most of them also wish to wed an Indian because they consider that their respective spouse would bring along with them time-honored Indian values.

For some strange reason, Hindi cinema has often projected an NRI youngster as a cool and hep dude, pretending to speak Hindi with an English accent. But that, in my opinion, is merely a façade. It's far from real. Sure, there could be exceptions, but every NRI who arrives in India isn't wearing an Armani or Versace. Neither is he a die-hard romantic like Raj or Rahul. In fact, a lot of NRIs I know are amused to note that while they held on to the traditions, the ones in India are more inclined towards the West.

Yet, the East-West love story remains a pet theme that continues to invade the Hindi screen. Films like PURAB AUR PASCHIM, DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE and NAMASTEY LONDON have explored this topic most convincingly. In fact, a lot many people feel that YRF and Dharma have highlighted this aspect in various films, which the diaspora has lapped up with glee. But, of late, films that carry with them the scent of the soil are being attempted by our storytellers. TANU WEDS MANU too highlights this facet.

The NRI in TANU WEDS MANU is docile, unassuming and soft-spoken, has no accent or attitude, believes in arranged marriages, relishes the evergreen songs of Mohammed Rafi, is old-fashioned literally. The girl is contradictory. She's belligerent and dominating, also smokes, drinks and uses expletives, has had many 'affairs', has her new boyfriend's name tattooed on her chest, is a straight-forward and fearless babe. This is their story!

Like his directorial debut STRANGERS, director Aanand L Rai opts for unconventional and unpredictable situations in TANU WEDS MANU. Of course, the fact that Tanu and Manu would tie the knot sooner or later is at the back of your mind, even before the reels have begun to unfold, but you want to experience their journey - their voyage from strangers to lovers.

TANU WEDS MANU has some great moments, some standard ones, some tedious ones as well, when you feel that the story is being stretched for no particular reason. The drama tends to get heavy after a point and that takes a toll on the film. In fact, the writing gets shaky in the middle of the second hour, although the finale is well thought of and implemented. You may call it clichéd or formulaic, but it works big time.

Meet Manu [R. Madhavan], a seedha saadha Doctor from London. Intelligent, temperate and from a respectable family, the perfect groom which every parent wants for their daughter. When he arrives in India, he realizes that India has changed and so have the people. The Indian women in particular are more attracted towards the Western lifestyle. Family pressure leads him to Kanpur to meet Tanu [Kangna Ranaut], the quintessential small-town girl who has studied in Delhi.

Tanu is a smart, intelligent girl who will do everything that her parents will disapprove. With a mind of her own and a love for rebellion, Tanu is dead against an arranged marriage. But destiny holds something totally different for these diametrically diverse personalities.

Although not similar to JAB WE MET, TANU WEDS MANU conjures up memories of the Imtiaz Ali-directed film. The Punjabi setting and the rebellious girl are two prominent similarities that one recollects instantly. Besides, in HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM, PARDES, JAB WE MET as well as TANU WEDS MANU, the girl is in love with someone else and the protagonist helps them take the relationship forward. But director Aanand L Rai ensures that TANU WEDS MANU retains its individuality and doesn't come across as a replica/clone of those immensely likable films. In fact, his handling of several light moments as well as dramatic ones is exemplary.

TANU WEDS MANU has some wonderful moments in the first hour, but I'd like to single out the sequence when Madhavan confides in Deepak Dobriyal about Kangna not wanting to marry him. Also, the sequence at the interval comes as a bolt from the blue. It's the writing in the post-interval portions that bothered me. Jimmy Sheirgill's sequences aren't as convincing. Also, since Kangna is shown to be a blabber mouth and also forthright and outspoken, why does she turn docile all of a sudden? It doesn't go with her character, honestly. Also, since Ravi Kissen has Madhavan's photograph [presumably handed to him by Jimmy Sheirgill], why is Jimmy unaware that Madhavan is the same guy when he meets him for the first time? A few hiccups, but not the type that really go against the film. However, the penultimate 15/20 minutes bring the film back on tracks. Actually, the climax is the highpoint of this enterprise.

The soundtrack takes you by complete surprise. It is earthy and charming. 'Sadi Gali' and 'Jugni' are two tracks that act as pillars and would help attract moviegoers to cineplexes. Also, the popular track of yesteryears, 'Kajra Mohabbat Wala', is well integrated in the narrative. Chirantan Das's cinematography captures the lush locales of North India well.

Even though Madhavan enacts the role of an NRI, he doesn't come across as a stereotypical phoren returned desi. He is real, restrained, yet forceful. To essay a character in such an understated manner is a challenge for any actor and he does it with complete understanding of the character. Unlike her past films, Kangna plays a part that has a zest for life and is bold and fun-loving at the same time. She's audacious, but lovable. Nonetheless, she needs to work on her pronunciation/diction, which sounds so peculiar.

Jimmy Sheirgill springs a pleasant surprise. Known for portraying soft/positive roles, this one comes as a complete shocker. Though his role isn't well etched out, he leaves a solid impression in the latter reels. Ravi Kissen is wasted. What is he doing in this film? Deepak Dobriyal is superb yet again. This dynamic actor is under-utilized in our films. Rajendra Gupta, K.K. Raina, Navni Parihaar and Deepti Mishra are effective. Eijaz Khan and Swara Bhaskar are wonderful.

On the whole, TANU WEDS MANU is a feel-good, light-hearted entertainer with the right dose of humor, drama and romance, besides a popular musical score and some smart dialogue that act as toppings. If you like simple, uncomplicated films that tug at your heartstrings, then chances are that you might just like this sweet little rom-com. In terms of economics, the right holders have already recovered a substantial amount from the sale of Satellite Rights. The merits of the film coupled with no major opposition till 1 April will ensure healthy returns on their investment, thus making the investors recover the remainder amount easily. The only concern is the inopportune release period for movies [World Cup] and chances are its business might get affected on days when crucial matches are played, especially when India is on field.

Akki - The James Bond

Is it a comedy? Or is Akshay Kumar back in action for Housefull 2? According to sources the script for the sequel has devised some of the scariest action sequences ever. Apparently, Akshay’s introductory stunt in Housefull 2 would be directed by Robert Alonzo who is Tom Cruise’s stunt co-ordinator in Mission Impossible 4.
Forget the nerd who gets conned into marriage by a woman who elopes with her boyfriend on their honeymoon. Akshay is done with his nerdy avatar. According to a reliable source, in Housefull 2, he plays a character twice as wicked, destructive and devilish as the one he played in the Sajid Nadiadwala’s production Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. According to a source, Akshay’s character in Housefull 2 is an extension of the smartass who dupes Salman Khan in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi than the wimp who loses love each time in Housefull.
Akshay Kumar’s nerdy act done to facetious heights in a spate of recent comedies has come to an end. He will no longer play the loser on screen.

For starters, in the sequel to Housefull, his role has apparently gone back to the storyboard. The Golmaal writers Sajid-Farhad have been roped in to write the part of a “cool comic lothario, like a Bond-meets-Devgn-in-Golmaal.”
Sajid Khan doesn’t deny the James Bond influence on Housefull 2. “We’ve really enhanced the cool quotient for Akshay in Housefull 2.The Akshay that you’ll see in Housefull 2 has never been seen before.”
So is Akshay a ‘Kameena James Bond’ in Housefull 2?

Aamir’s music bonus in ‘Dhoom: 3’

Aamir Khan is literally going ‘dhoom’ these days by hogging the limelight and creating headlines…..

While one is excited to see his baddie aspect in Yash Raj Films’ most anticipated movie ‘Dhoom: 3’, here’s another buzz which makes the flick altogether more mazedaar… It’s said that Mr. Perfectionist will render his voice for a number in the movie. However, sources say that he won’t be doing a thorough song, instead will do a voiceover rhythmically in tune with the lyrics.

Its no wonder Aamir is called an all-rounder; for, he created good impression as a singer besides being an actor and producer – by singing in films like ‘Ghulam’, Mela, ‘Fanaa’ and ‘Taare Zameen Par’. So one can believe that the star would not disappoint us in ‘D3’.

One had fabulous experience with Dhoom’s music in earlier versions…. With Pritam handling the scores for ‘D3’, we can surely expect some terrific musical dhoom dhoom this time as well…. Besides, Aamir is there on board now for a track… Kya bolti tu?

Game Music Review - Joginder Tuteja

Expectations
An edgy and thrilling score - That's what one expects from the music of Game which sees the team of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Javed Akhtar coming together again. Now this was expected considering the fact that Game is a Farhan Akhtar-Ritesh Sidhwani film. Since Game is a thriller and has major portions of it shot abroad, one expects a soundtrack that would boast of an out and out Western flavour with a foot tapping appeal.

Music
Title song 'It's A Game' opens the album and one can well expect this one to be playing in the opening credit rolls of the film. Boasting of the same style as the opening sequence of the Bond movies, 'It's A Game' pretty much meets the expectations. Sung ferociously by Vishal Dadlani, it is not the kind that turns out to be a chartbuster track but does well in setting up the mood right at the start of the film. Also, one can expect snippets from the song to form a part of the background score of the film as well. Later Sunitha Sarathi does a 'reprise version' of the song as well and it turns out to be further closer to the Bond theme.

An even better outing takes place, courtesy the soft notes that mark the beginning of 'Maine Yeh Kab Socha Tha'. An urban contemporary love song with a modern day setting to it, 'Maine Yeh Kab Socha Tha' is a quintessential love song that one expects from a film that boasts of upmarket production values. Rendered by Shaan and Anusha Mani (good again after 'Dil Mein Jaagi' [Dev D], 'Lazy Lamhe' [Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic] and 'Lehrein' [Aisha]) with Loy Mendonsa chipping in as well, 'Maine Yeh Kab Socha Tha' is a bring-on-the-smiles love song that moves along rather smoothly and makes you play it all over again.

'Mehki Mehki' takes the listener back to the 50s when cabarets were in vogue. With the female protagonist taking centre-stage here, it is Shreya Ghoshal who does the needful to be her voice. While she does her job well and so does Kshitij Wagh who is her male counterpart, the overall composition turns out to be just about decent. For a setting like this one would have expected something spectacular but that is not really the case with the song turning out to be more lazy than exciting. The 'remix version' too doesn't quite add on to the spice and one moves on to the next song with a feeling that this one could have been far better.

It is back to Bond mood with Aditi Singh Sharma and K.K. sung 'Kaun Hai Ajnabi' bearing the kind of sound which has been associated with many a film belonging to this genre over the decades gone by. This one in fact mixes Bond theme with the 50s style composition which is yet again situational. The lyrics here are typical where the protagonists are trying to find the identity of a stranger, hence setting the mood for a song (arriving again in a 'remix version') that could well have been composed for the climax setting.

Overall
Game starts off well with an attention grabbing title song and a melodious 'Maine Yeh Kab Socha Tha'. However it doesn't quite keep the momentum with 'Mehki Mehki' and 'Kaun Hai Ajnabi' ending up being just about situational. Of course in the process of doing so, a definite mood is maintained for Game which in a way is a positive considering the fact that the film was never meant to be a musical. However for the songs to make an impact, it would all boil down to how they are picturised and plugged into the film's narrative.

7 Khoon Maaf Saturday Collections

7 khoon maaf was steady on saturday as it showed a negligible pickup in selected metroes but other centers were down. The collections on saturday was same 3.35 crore as on friday which can be considered fair because drop was expected on saturday due to first india's match in world cup.

The two day business is now 6.70 crore nett. The weekend can be expected to come in 10.5-11.5 crore nett region.

Saat Khoon Maaf Opening Day

Saat Khoon Maaf underperformed on its first day with a very low opening of 3.35 crore approx. The occupency was nearly 30-35% at multiplexes and 15-20% at single screens. The Word of mouth are also mixed. Since it was a much awaited movie this type of low opening was not expected. But according to the trends the truth is that female oriented movies dont take a good opening. The weekend will be nearly 10-12 crore approx which is not encouraging.

Vivek Agnihotri´s Next, On Naxal Movement, To Be Produced By ISB Hyderabad Students!

Vivek Agnihotri the director of 'Chocolate' and 'Goal' is starting his a new film which is being touted as a very controversial and edgy political thriller. Vivek travelled extensively last year in politically volatile eastern India and Naxal infested Central India.

When contacted, Vivek mentioned, "This is the film I want to make. Its something that I must say. Its a very important film". Its based on some very sensitive true incidents which may expose a lot of heavyweights and their nexus.

The film will have Arunoday Singh, Mahie Gill & Anupam Kher in principle roles. The movie which is yet untitled, is being directed and co-produced by Vivek along with Friday Night productions (a production house by the current students of Indian Business School, Hyderabad). It is also the 1st time ever that a film is based on B-schools and will be shot at one of the World's Premimum B-Schools.

"ISB students wanted to make a professionally managed film to showcase their business acumen and I was ready with this very personal film. While doing some sessions on 'Creative Thinking' at ISB we connected. Things fell into place and now we are making this film together. The film will start shooting from the 22nd of this month at the ISB campus itself." Vivek added. Bollywood and its odd partnerships but then is what showbiz is all about surprises.

Patiala House - Flop , Ye Saali Zindgi - Below Average

Patiala House collected poor 23.25 crore in its first week & is not collecting well in second weekend. Boxoffice has given a Flop tag to Patiala House.

Ye Saali Zindgi collected 3.25 crore in second week leading total buisness to 10.75 crore. Below Average.

7 khoon maaf starts slow

7 khoon maaf started slow with occupency 30-35% at multiplexes and 15-20% at single screens.
Since it is a multiplex film so one should not expect much from single screens. It has to pickup strongly on saturday and sunday but the world cup will be a big hurdle in its way and the genre is also female oriented.

Hope the movie comes over all the resistance and emerge another female oriented success like NOKJ.

Big B, Sonakshi joins Sajid Khan's comedy ‘House’

Looks like director Sajid Khan is in a spirited mood to add more and more members to his forthcoming comedy bandwagon called ‘Housefull 2’.

We already know that the sequel of ‘Housefull’ has given entry to Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, John Abraham, Asin, Jacqueline Fernandez, Chunky Pandey, Randhir and Rishi Kapoor… And now the latest buzz is that the film has called on board the veteran star Amitabh Bachchan and ‘Dabangg’ beauty Sonakshi Sinha!

Yes, the makers of the film have signed on Big B for a prominent role in ‘Housefull 2’ while Sonakshi has been approached to play the third leading lady.

However, Amitabh’s dates are said to be available only post July, which in turn has brought some delay in the movie’s schedule.

Well, we feel that this time Sajid’s ‘house’ will surely present a ‘full and full’ paisa vasool product! What say?

Akshay's brand value erodes - Taran Adarsh

'Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap'... In simpler terms it means, as you sow so shall you reap. The bitter truth is that Akshay Kumar's last few films have eroded his brand value and that, I genuinely feel, affected the box-office prospects of PATIALA HOUSE to an extent. Riding high after NAMASTEY LONDON, HEYY BABYY, BHOOL BHULAIYAA, WELCOME and SINGH IS KINNG, five Hits in a row [except TASHAN, which was released before S.I.K.], Akshay was running neck to neck with SRK at that point of time. But Akshay slipped from his position post SINGH IS KINNG, delivering one flop after another. Hits and flops are part of the game, I agree, but it's his choice of films that has gone against him, when one reflects on his body of work.

PATIALA HOUSE is a good product and deserved a better fate. Of course, the word of mouth is extremely positive and the business also showed an escalation with each passing day, but the fact remains that it has under-performed in India. Ideally, the film should have netted at least Rs. 20 cr in its opening weekend, but the figure it has posted [Rs. 15.25 cr nett] only goes to prove that Akshay's fan base has eroded over a period of time.

PATIALA HOUSE suffered for one more reason. Like I pointed out in the review of the film, ideally, there ought to be at least six months' gap between two films of a major star, while PATIALA HOUSE is Akshay's fourth release in six months [KHATTA MEETHA - 23 July, ACTION REPLAYY - 5 November, TEES MAAR KHAN - 24 December, PATIALA HOUSE - 11 February]. Besides, a lot many people I know weren't too keen on watching PATIALA HOUSE because they felt that this was yet another mindless entertainer from the actor who enjoyed a virtual monopoly of working in mindless laughathons. He may/may not have realized it, but Akshay had got appallingly typecast and PATIALA HOUSE bore the brunt of it.

Strangely, whenever Akshay has acted in serious films that emphasize on drama, like DHADKAN, EK RISHTAA, AITRAAZ and WAQT in particular, the audience has embraced him and his films warmly. Of course, family dramas do take time to grow at the box-office and that also explains the below-the-mark start of PATIALA HOUSE. A section of the industry also feels that PATIALA HOUSE lacked Hit music, which comes as a surprise since the film is produced by a music company.

Now let's discuss its economics. The total cost of PATIALA HOUSE stands at Rs. 45 cr [includes Rs 9 cr incurred on P & A]. The producers have already recovered their investment by selling India theatrical rights [Rs. 23 cr], Overseas [Rs. 7 cr], Satellite [Rs. 15 cr] and Music + Home Video combined [Rs. 4.5 cr]. The onus falls on the distributors, who acquired the film at reasonable prices. The film has to sustain on weekdays and also in its second weekend, so that the respective distributors can recover their investment.

PATIALA HOUSE is akin to a fresh start for Akshay. It is amongst Akshay's finest works and if the actor continues to pick and choose his films diligently, instead of working in same genres, he would once again claim the title of 'Darling of the Masses'. There's a lesson to be learnt!

7 Khoon Maaf Movie Review - Taran Adarsh

The very thought of watching a Vishal Bhardwaj film excites a movie buff no end. Right from MAKDEE to KAMINEY, Bhardwaj's body of work stands out from the rest. The forward-thinking film-maker's fixation for adapting novels and plays is known to all and sundry by now. Continuing with his practice of adapting from the written form, the supremely talented storyteller now adapts Ruskin Bond's short story 'Susanna's Seven Husbands' for his new outing 7 KHOON MAAF. Known for walking the unusual path, Bhardwaj narrates an unconventional story yet again - of a woman who marries multiple times, following the untimely death of her husbands.

Till a few years ago, no one would've ever thought of making a film on a woman who marries, remarries, weds again, ties the knot yet again... in fact, she walks down the aisle multiple times. That's not all, the woman, we are told, kills each of her husbands subsequently. The theme might come as a jolt to the trditional moviegoers, since the wives on the Hindi screen are either depicted as docile and dutiful or fiercely independent and ambitious. The question is, will the orthodox Indian audience absorb a theme like this? It's blasphemous, some may opine. Imagine a murderous bride, some may rant.

There's talk that 7 KHOON MAAF is also loosely inspired from an Italian movie by the name SETTE VOLTE DONNA aka WOMAN TIMES SEVEN [1967], helmed by Vittorio De Sica. That one depicted seven short stories with adultery as the focal point [Shirley MacLaine, the protagonist, knits these stories together]. However, the resemblance could be coincidental and not an attempt to plagiarize that film.

Now let me come to the point! 7 KHOON MAAF works in parts. A few stories - involving Neil Nitin Mukesh, John Abraham, Irrfan Khan and Annu Kapoor - are absorbing, while at least two could've been better narrated - Naseeruddin Shah and Aleksandr Dyachenko. The unfortunate part is that the uninteresting ones come in the latter half and coupled with its excessive length, the impact generated by a captivating first hour gets diluted in the process. Even the culmination doesn't sweep you off your feet.

Not just the unconventional plot, even the execution of the subject material is offbeat and quirky. There are several instances in the narrative where the viewer has to stay very, very attentive. Unlike other films, Bhardwaj wants his viewer to stay attentive and use his mind while watching the various stories in 7 KHOON MAAF. In one sequence, the camera zooms and the funeral transforms into a marriage, while another sequence depicts the marriage transforming into a funeral. Also, the mystery of the killer with five fingers and one toe is disentangled towards the end, but the sequence doesn't register as effectively thanks to the way it has been depicted.

Susanna [Priyanka Chopra] is unlucky in love. Her first husband, Major Edwin [Neil Nitin Mukesh], is overtly possessive and suspicious. After his demise, Susanna marries Jimmy [John Abraham] as she is floored by his musical talent. Jimmy becomes successful, but with success comes girls and drugs. He dies of drug overdose.

Enter Wasiullah aka Musafir [Irrfan Khan]. Impressed by his poetry, Susanna marries him, but discovers that he's a romantic in daytime, but a beast at night. He too gets eliminated. Susanna falls for the suave Nicolai [Aleksandr Dyachenko] from Moscow, but this marriage doesn't last long as Susanna discovers that Vronsky has a wife in Russia.

Following the death of a foreign national, the police start taking keen interest in the case. The officer Keemat Lal [Annu Kapoor] enters Susanna's life. Initially, he asks for sexual favors and later, persuades her to marry him. He dies due to cardiac arrest. After the death of Keemat Lal, Susanna marries Dr. Modhusudon [Naseeruddin Shah]. Susanne is depressed and he puts her on a mushroom only diet. But he's the first guy in her life who wants to get rid of her. Instead, she murders him.

In the end, Susanna marries yet again... for the seventh time. This time, to someone who knows she has committed the murders and sins. What happens next?

Though Priyanka is shown killing her husbands with the help of her ever-faithful staff, let this be told that it's not a scary or frightful experience. Sure, it's intense, but at the same time Bhardwaj injects humor in the narrative and that's the prime reason why the narrative never gets heavy or serious. I'd like to say this film is in a space of its own.

Also, though the protagonist marries and remarries, you don't feel any kind of animosity or hatred for the character. On the contrary, one empathizes with her never-ending pursuit for true love. One feels the pain, loneliness and tragedy that she goes through and that's what makes her the woman that she eventually turns out to be. Wicked, she is, but Bhardwaj offers reasons for her to get rid of those men. The reasons, in most cases, are convincing. But the transition from one man/husband to another is so sudden that Susanna comes across as a desperate lady hankering for yet another marriage.

Bhardwaj, the writer, leaves the viewer clueless about the two stories in the second hour. Fine, Susanna had learnt that her Russian husband had a wife and two kids tucked away in Russia, but the manner in which the entire case is solved leaves you baffled. In fact, one often wonders if it was so easy to murder a person and move on in life. How could the law enforcement remain a silent spectator despite multiple murders/mysterious deaths involving the same woman? The writing didn't appear foolproof and convincing to me.

Bhardwaj shares yet another responsibility in his films - handling the music department. One is assured that Bhardwaj would come up with lilting and high quality compositions, but the soundtrack of 7 KHOON MAAF is strictly okay. The Indian version of the Russian song 'Kalinka', 'Darling', is already a rage and it goes without saying that it's the best track of the enterprise. Rendered brilliantly, the song is sure to be one of the reasons why people will be tempted to watch the film.

Always ready to accept challenges in her career [AITRAAZ, YAKEEN, FASHION] and raising the bar with her performances, Priyanka accepts the challenge to portray ages from 21 to 65 in 7 KHOON MAAF. It must've been an arduous task to get the different age-groups right, but she proves her infinite acting potential yet again. Known to be an actress who stays true to every character that she is portraying, Priyanka delivers yet another sparkling, award worthy performance this time. There are several love-making sequences with her husbands and Priyanka has handled those [bold] sequences without inhibitions.

Amongst the remaining cast, Annu Kapoor leaves the maximum impact. He's simply outstanding! John doesn't really get much scope, Neil is effective, Irrfan is wonderfully restrained, Naseer is believable and Aleksandr is passable. Vivaan Shah, who narrates the story of Susanna, is a talent to watch out for. Though it's his maiden film as an actor, it doesn't seem like one. He is not your regular debutant and that's what makes his character appear so real. Konkona Sen Sharma does well. Usha Uthup and the two male helps are good.

On the whole, 7 KHOON MAAF is a dark film that has its share of positives and negatives. However, the film will meet with diverse reactions - some will fancy it, while some will abhor it. The film will appeal more to the critics/columnists and the festival circuit. However, it is not the kind of cinema that will set the box-office ablaze. Ideally, I would've given a two star rating for this film, but I am going ahead with an extra star for Priyanka Chopra's sterling performance!

Patiala House First Week Collections

Patiala House collected 23.25 crore on the first week. The opening was low movie picked up on Saturday & Sunday but the pickup was no too much. The weekdays was also just ok.

Since the first day it was known that movie hasn't too much for youth and was fully dependent on families. The movie will just cross 30 crore lifetime according to the trends which is very low for akshay starrer. Well lets see what verdict will BOI give to Patiala House.

Akki’s next to have a grand launch

Akshay Kumar’s Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 will be launched in style and with much fanfare this Diwali. There are elaborate plans to pitch it as an event movie in the making. So much so that while it will be readied to hit floors, a special promo would be cut well in advance to give audience a feel of what they could expect next year when the film actually hits the screens.

“This is a phenomenon which is more prevalent in Hollywood, where a promo is created afresh rather than being cut from the actual footage available,” says a prominent promo editor.

Milan Luthria, director of the original and now the sequel of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, confirms the news. “Yes, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 would have an even bigger canvas and it is imperative that the audience sees what’s in store for them right at the time when the film goes on floors. We just did a stage act at an awards function with Akshay to launch the film. On Diwali this year, we will release the promo,” he says.

Patiala House Fall On Tuesday

Patiala House dropped heavily on Tuesday with the margin of about 33% from Monday. The collections were close to 1.90 crore nett leading the five day buisness to approx 20.50 crore nett. The five day distributor share will be around 11.30 crore & the week is likely to end on 24 crore approx.

Patiala House Monday Numbers

Patiala House was steady on Monday showing just 33% drop. The film collected 2.75 crore nett on monday.

The collections are steady but still less because the opening was pretty low. The four day total is near about 18.50 crore. The week is likely to end on 24-25 crore nett.

Theatrical buisness is not going so good still the producers will be in profit due to low costs and akshay hasn't charged his acting fees and has done profit sharing deal. The worst part may be that some of the distributors will lose money.

Ye Saali Zindagi Second Weekend Buisness

Despite the release of the biggie Patiala House 'Ye Saali Zindagi' was rock steady in second weekend. The film collected 2.25 crore nett buisness on the second weekend weekend which shows a 50% drop from first weekend. The Total collections so far are 10.75 cr which means a distributor share of about 5-5.25 cr. The lifetime distributor share will be in 5.75 cr region according to boxofficeindia.

The film will get 4 crore from sattelite rights & possibly 50 lakhs from Home video which will recover the costs. Overseas & music will not give any revenue.

The daily breakdown was

Friday 4.15 cr
Saturday 5.20 cr
Sunday 6.30 cr

The film picked up on saturday and sunday but was not enough. The hopes are now on weekdays. The film should not drop on weekdays to sustain at the boxoffice.

PATIALA HOUSE sees a turnaround for Akshay-Glamsham

PATIALA HOUSE has done something which not many could see coming from a long distance - It has fetched its makers some of the best reviews ever of their career. With majority of notable critics handing over good to very good reviews to this week's release, the game has just begun for PATIALA HOUSE which did depend upon feedback which is generated through word of mouth.

Comments a senior crew member of PATIALA HOUSE, "We all did well on the film but were still anxious to know the kind of reviews that PATIALA HOUSE would get. Since the film's promotion was controlled and the team had instead decided to let the word of mouth do all the talking, it was imperative that reviews were good. This has now happened with almost all reviews being totally positive."

This has also meant that years after NAMASTEY LONDON, Akshay Kumar has seen unanimous appreciation coming for his act in PATIALA HOUSE. His subtle portrayal of 'Gattu' has been picked by critics as well as audience alike which has resulted in him gaining immense appreciation even from his detractors. For Nikhil Advani too, it has come as a shot in the arm after CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA.

Says a close associate, "It was a matter of time before Akshay showed to the world all over again that he was open to roles which pushed him beyond a comic guy. He has showed his somber side in films like EK RISHTA, JAANWAR and DHADKAN earlier on as well. Now that he has gone a step ahead in PATIALA HOUSE, it is being touted as a new facet of his acting capabilities."

Resultantly, after a not-so-encouraging start on Friday, the collections have (expectedly) started showing escalation now.

Positive reviews coupled with word of mouth has meant that this family film has enjoyed a breather for itself by means of enhanced collections over the weekend and a positive stay at the box office on weekdays as well.

Will Sonakshi Replace Katrina??????

Sonakshi & Akshay has yet to start shooting for 'Joker' they are signed together again for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's home production movie directed by Prabhudeva. It seems she is all set to replace Katrina. As the new jodi which is on the peoples talks is Akshay - Sonakshi.

Recently she has bagged almost all the Best Female Debtant awards which is surely a Red Alert for all the leading heroines.

Patiala House Saturday Collections

Patiala House showed a jump of 25% on Saturday collecting 5.30 crore nett (approx). The jump was good in multiplexes in India but was not so good in single screens. The two day total is now 9.50 crore nett (approx).

Sunday will be imporatnt as families use to come on holidays. Also the weekdays are very important as they will decide the fate of the movie. It is very strongly needed that film should not drop from Monday.

Patiala House First Day Collections

Patiala House collected 4 crore nett(approx) on its first day which was very low & not expected from Akshay starrers. The collections were low due to the Genre. These type of movies don't take much opening due to lack of Mass appeal factor & generally rely on Word Of Mouth.

As the movie has got many positive reviews from critics & public has also liked the movie. A huge jump is expected on Saturady & Sunday. The movie will make high profits due to low investment of about 28 crore approx. But to have good theatrical collections the movie has to sustain for long.

100 Crore Aamir Khan!!!!!!

Buzz is that actor Aamir Khan is slated to become the highest paid actor in Bollywood overtaking actor Shah Rukh Khan by almost Rs30 crore in the process. According to sources, the actor in his latest film has entered into such a profit-sharing agreement with filmmaker Aditya Chopra that he’ll overtake all the Khans by a clean margin.

“Since this is a film Aamir won’t be producing, he has asked for a profit-sharing agreement with Chopra, which will be over and above his usual acting fee (of around Rs5 crore, according to sources). So, even if the next sequel of Dhoom’s box office returns reaches anywhere close to the popularity of the last prequel, Aamir will be able to take home an amount that no Khan has taken home till date,” says a source.

According to trade figures, Dhoom 2 had made a gross business of Rs134 crore in India and over Rs 100 crore profit in India and about the same amount from the overseas market. So, going by the figures (as of 2006), Aamir’s total fee crosses Rs70 crore by the most conservative estimate. But going by the present market dynamics, Aamir’s figures are expected to cross the jaw-dropping magic mark — Rs100 crore!

“Nobody knows how the film will finally fare, but yes, even if it becomes half as popular as the other two Dhooms, Aamir will take home around 100 crore, which is by far the biggest amount in terms of an actor’s fee so far,” the source adds.

It is pertinent to add that most actors being part-producers get the negative and satellite rights of the film. But in this case, since it is Chopra’s production, those rights rest with him and Aamir will be paid an acting fee. Sources say that the profit sharing arrangement is part of the fee.

When contacted, Chopra’s office neither confirmed nor denied the news. “At Yashraj, we don’t discuss artists’ contracts and agreements. So we will not be able to shed any light on this,” says a spokesperson from Chopra’s studio.

Ye Saali Zindgi First Week Numbers

Ye Saali Zindgi had a first week of 7.5 crore nett. The film had good weekend of 4.50 crore  & it sustained on weekdays. The collections are considered good because it is a low budget film & without a popular star cast.

Other releases 'Utt Pataang', 'United Six' & 'Ham Dono Rangeen' were Disasters at Boxoffice.

Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji Second Week Numbers

Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji collected 6 crore nett on its second week which was below the mark. It was expected due to a heavy drop on second weekend. The Total so far is 27 crore and it will struggle to cross 30 crore nett.

Patiala House Is A Heart Warming Drama - Glamsham

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 is around the corner. The excitement among fans is humongous as we are a few days away from the opening match. So it's perhaps a great move to release a film with a cricket theme, just before the big tournament.

While we've seen many films based on cricket (LAGAAN, VICTORY, IQBAL), PATIALA HOUSE is different as it's primarily a father-son conflict, having cricket as it's backdrop.

34-year-old Parghat Singh Kahlon aka Gattu (Akshay Kumar) had given up his dreams due to his authoritarian father Gurtej Kahlon (Rishi Kapoor), 17 years ago. Despite being an excellent fast bowler, he wasn't allowed to play for Firangis (England) as their family was subjected to racist attacks many years back. Gurutej turned very aggressive post the incident and used to raise his hand or voice at the drop of a hat.

Gattu, on the other hand, has been living a mediocre life, working in a Southhall corner store for years now. The younger generation of his family blames him for setting the wrong example.

Still not over with his love for the game, Gattu discreetly practices bowling when no one is around. His neighbour friend Simran (Anushka Sharma) and her kid brother (Z) are determined to get Gattu's life back on track. Will he get his life back is what forms the rest of the story.

Nikhil Advani keeps the narrative to the point, avoiding all the redundancies in the first half. The characters and their conflicts are well established. It's a tough situation if you are in the shoes of Gattu and have to choose between your dreams and family. You really do feel for Gattu and his predicament. Simran and Zee making a spineless Gattu realise the importance of chasing dreams is inspiring. Their characters act as catalysts in moving the story ahead.

Post the interval, the Nikhil goes a bit wayward in his direction. The entire plan and more so its execution is just too convenient. The cricket scenes, though not bad, don't arouse the excitement that LAGAAN immaculately did.

The plot is no doubt predictable. You roughly know what will happen in the end. But how Nikhil reaches there is plausible. There's an endearing scene just before the interval where Priti Kahlon (Jeneva Talwar) tells Gattu that the Britishers treat Indians as equals and have hence offered him a place in their team. The lighter moments manage to bring a smile.

Manan Sagar's editing is good but the second half could have been much tighter. Cinematography by Santosh Thundiyil is nice. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music goes well with the film.

Akshay Kumar, teaming up with Nikhil after CHADNI CHOWK TO CHINA, is first-rate as he delivers a very restrained performance. He looks convincing as a cricketer and never goes overboard. Rishi Kapoor plays his role to perfection. Anushka Sharma is refreshingly good and is at her chirpiest best. The boy who plays Zee is completely natural. Dimple Kapadia doesn't have much scope. Tinu Anand is good. Thankfully, the cricketers (Andrew Symonds, Herschelle Gibbs, Kieron Pollard) are just seen playing cricket and don't mouth dialogues. All the other characters are fine in their small roles.

PATIALA HOUSE is a heart-warming drama. Do pay a visit to this house with your family. A fun time is guaranteed.

Patiala House Movie Review - Taran Adarsh

A while ago, I posed a question on Twitter and Facebook, asking people what their expectations were from PATIALA HOUSE. The reaction ranged from encouraging and affirmative to unenthusiastic and unexciting. A wide number of caustic and scathing comments were a consequence of Akshay Kumar's last year's releases, namely KHATTA MEETHA, ACTION REPLAYY and TEES MAAR KHAN. Also, a few called it similar to DE DHANA DHAN GOAL, while some even compared it with NAMASTEY LONDON.

In fact, a lot many factors go against PATIALA HOUSE. Director Nikihil Advani and Akshay's last outing together, the infamous CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, remains a favorite punching bag to this day. Besides, PATIALA HOUSE comes at a time when people have had an overdose of Akshay starrers. I reiterate, there ought to be at least six months' gap between two films of a major star, while this is Akshay's fourth release in six months [KHATTA MEETHA - 23 July, ACTION REPLAYY - 5 November and TEES MAAR KHAN - 24 December]. Moreover, the film opens exactly one week before the keenly anticipated World Cup cricket matches and coupled with that, it will have no breathing space as the very next week witnesses the release of another much-awaited film 7 KHOON MAAF. Expecting PATIALA HOUSE to overcome these hurdles is tough, mainly when the chips are down!

The chips are down also because people assume PATIALA HOUSE to be something which it is not. Let me clarify that PATIALA HOUSE is not an 'extension' of Akshay's previous films. Sure, PATIALA HOUSE has its share of humorous moments, but the humor is of the subtle kind here. Nor can one compare it to NAMASTEY LONDON, since that film was more of a love story between a British-born Indian and a desi Indian, while PATIALA HOUSE is more of an inspirational film. It's about chasing your dreams as and when you get another opportunity, if you don't succeed the first time.

Essentially, PATIALA HOUSE is a somber film, with the focal point being drama and histrionics rather than the slapstick wit or in-your-face comedy that one anticipates from an Akshay starrer. It's more about familial bonding, with a sport [cricket] interwoven in the screenplay. This one doesn't tickle your funny bone; instead it moistens your eyes thanks to the poignant moments in the narrative, especially the penultimate moments of the film. Those exhausted of watching Akshay getting typecast in similar genre films will drop the charges while watching this one. This is, without a shred of doubt, amongst Akshay's finest performances.

On the flip side, the screenplay of PATIALA HOUSE is erratic - vacillating between engaging to run of the mill to flaccid moments. In fact, a chunk involving the game plan - the family trying various gimmicks and ploys to conceal the truth from Rishi Kapoor - is lame and bizarre. Ditto for the romance between Akshay and Anushka; it comes across as half-baked and looks tame. Even the members of the family, most of them, have ill-defined characters. Fortunately, these deficiencies get camouflaged as the father and son get set for an emotional showdown in the pre-climax. From this point onwards, right till the euphoric victory, the film reaches its pinnacle.

Final word? PATIALA HOUSE is an underdog. The expectations are zilch, the odds are not in its favor, but the film throws a pleasant surprise. Go for it!

At Patiala House lives the Kahlon family ruled by Bauji [Rishi Kapoor]. They follow his diktats as he tries to hold onto his 'Indian values' in the land of the goras. The younger generation at Patiala House wants to assert themselves and follow their dreams, but is held back by their respect and love for Bauji and the shining example of Bauji's eldest son, Parghat Singh Kahlon aka Gattu [Akshay Kumar].

Gattu's decision to turn cricketer and play for England is unacceptable to Bauji, who tears his dream apart right in front of his eyes. A dejected Gattu decides to live the life that his father forces upon him. Gattu genuinely cares and respects his father's opinion, so much that he is prepared to let his own dream be sacrificed in the process. Will Bauji loosen his hold and let the youngsters find their own dreams, instead of following his? Will Gattu get a second chance to live his life?

There's no denying that the story of PATIALA HOUSE reminds you of Gurinder Chadha's BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM, wherein Parminder Nagra, as the second-generation Sikh girl, defied her parents' wishes to play football. However, PATIALA HOUSE is a film about attachments, affiliations and familial bonding, about respect and trying to adjust to contradictory values that generally crop up when one relocates to another country. More importantly, it's about dreams and aspirations and how fate offers you a second chance in life. PATIALA HOUSE is not one of those atypical mass entertainers that focuses only on providing entertainment, while the story takes a complete backseat. This one, thankfully, has a story to tell. And an interesting one, frankly. Also, as much as this film focuses on the relationship between the father and son, it also weaves the popular sport well in the narrative and that makes for an interesting viewing. However, the cricket factor is subsidiary; the focal point remains the father-son conflict. Nikhil Advani ensures that beneath the familial bonding and curbed aspirations, there's an underlined message as well: Chase you dreams, don't give up, you live only once!

The film has some striking moments and I would like to single out the ones when writers Nikhil Advani and Anvita Dutt Guptan take you back in time to a younger Rishi Kapoor and Akshay's childhood. The racist attacks and how it impacts the family is straight out of life. Besides, the vital sequence in the film - Rishi commands the young Akshay [enacted by Usman Qureshi] to abandon his plans of playing for England - is utmost convincing. The climax, of course, is powerful and the hallmark of this enterprise. It evokes emotions on dual levels - when the father decides to watch his son play cricket and also when Akshay wins the match for England. Ideally, the film should've concluded on this euphoric note, but the song thereafter lessens the impact of the exhilarated climax.

Director Nikhil Advani regains his position as a compelling storyteller, which he had lost post SALAAM-E-ISHQ and CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA. He illustrates his proficiency in the dramatic portions, handling the father-son sequences with dexterity. The soundtrack [music: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy] is melodic, with 'Kyun Main Jaagoon' being the best track of the enterprise. The song conveys the spirit of the film well. The placement of 'Laungda Lashkara' may be debatable, but the song is tuneful nonetheless. The background score [also by S-E-L] is classy. Santosh Thundiyil's cinematography is stunning.

Gattu is a character anyone can relate to or empathize with and to portray that convincingly is indeed difficult, but Akshay plays this part with rare maturity. It's a complex role to portray since he has to conceal the emotional turmoil he is experiencing within, yet wear a cheery expression against all adversities. The viewer is sure to connect directly and indirectly with this character, even if he/she may have not have experienced what he does in this film. Also, Akshay ensures that his bowling skills look absolutely realistic on screen and he does justice to the sport.

Rishi Kapoor, cast as the patriarch of a family settled in U.K., gets it right yet again. Note his dialect and body language in particular. As Bauji, the veteran actor delivers a sparkling performance, which would rank amongst his superlative work when you look back at his illustrious career. Dimple Kapadia doesn't really get much opportunity initially, but is wonderful in the penultimate sequence when she confronts Rishi Kapoor.

Anushka is an integral part of the story. She is Akshay's shoulder, an unconditional support for him and she fits perfectly into her character. Amongst the plethora of actors, Armaan Kirmani [as Akshay's brother] is excellent, Jeneva Talwar [as Armaan's pregnant wife, Akshay's sis-in-law] is top notch and Usman Qureshi [essaying Akshay's earlier years] is natural. Tinnu Anand is competent, as always. Prem Chopra is okay. Soni Razdan does a fair job. The kid who plays Anushka's brother is smart.

On the whole, PATIALA HOUSE is a film about attachments, affiliations and familial bonding. It's a compelling watch, more for its drama and histrionics than anything else. It's a film that explores the father-son relationship and not just those in India, but around the world should be able to relate to the predicament depicted in this film. The hallmark of the film is the merging of its engaging drama with cricket and that's what makes this product stand out from the earlier Akshay starrers. Especially its penultimate 30 minutes, which is the brightest spot of this enterprise. If the movie succeeds in pulling the heartstrings of the moviegoer, it would propel Akshay back in the same position he once was after the victory of NAMASTEY LONDON and SINGH IS KINNG.

Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji has emerged 'Below Average' at the boxoffice. It had a decent buisness on First week but fell heavily on the second weekend. The collections of the ten days were 25 crore which was below the mark. The movie will struggle to hit the 30 crore nett mark due to the release of Patiala House this week.

Patiala House Pre Release Prediction

There is a lot of excitment for the forthcoming Akshay starrer 'Patiala House'in the trade. Lot of expectations are from Akshay in this movie. The biggest question always arise is "Will Akshay Get A Hit With Patiala House"?

As the movie is releasing in 1400 plus screens it would need approx 30 crore distributor share to emerge a Hit which means 55 crore plus from Indian theatrical Buisness.

According to the pre release buzz it seems the movie will not have more than 18-20 crore first weekend. So the movie will be dependent on Word of mouth to be a Hit on boxoffice. Hope it live upto the expectations of the public. Fingers crossed for the movie.
