Which movie this year can break the lifetime record of 3 Idiots - Gautam Batra

Its a long time that 3 Idiots created a record of 202 crore approx at domestic boxoffice. Two years have passed & one question that is always arised is Which movie can break the lifetime record of 3 Idiots & set a new benchmark. Many big movies came & go after that but the record is still unbeatable. None of the movie even reached close to the mark despite of the bigger opening days & weekends they had. Some of the movies like Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard, Ra.One & Don 2 had chances to break the record due to many positives i.e. Rise of ticket prices, Reduction in entertainment tax, Extended weekends. Movies like Bodyguard & Ra.One had much bigger weekend than 3 Idiots but the only fact that resisted them to break the record was WOM(Word Of Mouth). Not a single movie had the WOM 3 Idiots garnered. The question is still there. So lets see which movies this year have chances to break the record.

There are many big movies releasing this year which have potential to do huge business with good WOM like:

1. Agneepath

2. Housefull 2

3. Agent Vinod

4. Tezz

5. Talaash

6. Rowdy Rathore

7. Bol Bachchan

8. Ek Tha Tiger

9. Joker

10. Race 2

11. Yash Chopra's Untitled

12.Khiladi 786

13. Son Of Sardar

14.Dabangg 2

But not all the movies can touch that mark just because of WOM(In case they get) because there are some more factors that affects the movie commercially i.e. Release date & No. of movies by an actor per year. A movie after getting huge weekend and WOM also needs atleast two week solo run and also if a star has more than two movies in a single year it is very close to impossible for him to break such record.

Therefore movies like Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore, Joker & Khiladi 786 are out of the list because all the four movies star Akshay Kumar in the lead and four movies by a single actor in an year resist its potential to earn. Tezz, Bol Bachchan & Son Of Sardar also can't do because all the movies star Ajay Devgan in the lead. Also Son Of Sardar is set to clash with K786 & Yash Chopra's Untitled on Diwali which is another factor that will prove hard to earn for all the three movies.

Agent Vinod & Race 2 can gross huge but can't break 3 Idiots record because Saif Ali Khan is not a big star. No doubt Race 2 has huge craze but both the movies don't have potential to set the benchmark.

Talaash & Ek Tha Tiger has all the positives but its non holiday release will make difficult to have huge weekend without which such business can not be expected. Ek Tha Tiger will be an Eid release most probably but the Eid is falling on 19th Aug 2012 i.e. Sunday and the movie will release on 17th Aug 2012 therefore holiday factor will not help.

Now only two movies left which have true potential to set the new benchmark. They are....

1. Agneepath: Releasing on 26th January 2012 movie has huge buzz among the audience. The massy appeal of the movie with Hrithik Roshan in the lead will help to take a huge opening & if the WOM is good then 4 day extended weekend can add up tremendously. Also it has two week solo run. All the chances to break the record.

2. Dabangg 2: A successful franchise helmed with the super stardom of Salmaan Khan releasing on Christmas period 2012 will surely make boxoffice ablaze and set the new benchmark if liked.

Lets wait & watch what happens & hope this year we have a new movie with a new lifetime record.
