Bhaiyyaji superhit finally goes on floors

After initial hiccups, director Neeraj Pathak's Bhaiyyaji Superhit starring Sunny Deol in a double role is now back on track. Bhaiyyaji Superhit was on the verge of being shelved due to differences between the director Neeraj Pathak and producer Fauzia Arshi due to budgetary reasons but now all the problems have been sorted and the film's shooting resumed yesterday in the city.

However, there is big change in the cast as Tusshar Kapoor has been replaced by Shreyas Talpade. Tusshar, who had a pivotal role in the film had to opt out due to date issues as Bhaiyyaji Superhit was being continuously delayed which affected Tusshar's other projects. Shreyas will essay the role of a writer and have a distinct look in the film. Shreyas is more than happy to be a part of the action- comedy.

Bhaiyyaji Superhit also stars Mithun Chakraborty, Arshad Warsi, Preity Zinta, Ameesha and Prakash Raj.

Arjun Kapoor finally grabs "2 States"!

Riding high after the success of his debut film Ishaqzaade, newbie Arjun Kapoor has bagged the coveted role of the lead actor in Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala's 2 States. The deal took place on Monday night.

2 States is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's best selling book with the same name. Sajid Nadiadwala had initially planned to make the film with Shah Rukh Khan, which was to be directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Then there were talks of Imtiaz Ali directing the film with Ranbir in the lead but that too didn't work out. Then Imran Khan was finalized for the role but he had to opt out due to date issues as he was tied up with multiple projects. Now Arjun Kapoor has bagged the role and he has already signed the dotted line. The leading lady is yet to be finalised

2 States will be directed by debutante Abhishek Verman, the son of veteran art director R Verman. Abhishek is also the creative director of KJo's Student Of The Year and has also worked with Karan on My Name Is Khan.

Arjun will play a typical Punjabi boy from Delhi who falls with a south Indian girl. The film will go on floors by the end of the year and will be shot in Delhi.

Gangs Of Wasseypur holds up on Monday

Gangs Of Wasseypur had a low Monday of around 1.75 crore nett as per early estimates but it is steady keeping in mind its weekend business which gives it a chance to hit the average mark if weekdays show minimal drops.

More importantly steady business on the weekdays and second week will give the second part of the film a chance at the box office. Shanghai had also grossed similar on Monday but that film had a 12.50 crore nett weekend so the trending for Gangs Of Wasseypur is better than that film.

The film is doing mixed business in practically every circuit, Delhi is okay but UP dull, Mumbai city is fair but Gujarat and Maharashtra dull, Gurgaon is good but rest of East Punjab is poor. The major circuits have seen decent business at some stations but poor in other stations.

Teri Meri Kahaani drops on Monday

The film has now grossed 18.25 crore nett approx in four days and the week should be around 23 crore nett. Delhi/UP has held up best as that circuit dropped less than 50%.

The first week will be 23 crore nett but it is unlikley the lifetime business of the film will get to 30 crore nett as Spiderman will dominate multiplexes when it releases on Friday. The monday territorrial breakdown is here:

Gangs of Wasseypur has a dull weekend

Gangs of Wasseypur had a dull weekend as it collected around 9.75-10 crore nett as per early estimates. The film collected 2.75 crore nett on Friday, 3.25 crore nett on Saturday and 3.75-4 crore nett on Sunday.

The opening day was low and the film could not show the growth it needed to come out with a half decent weekend. These type of films which are not able to open well need minimum 30% growth on Saturday and Sunday to make any mark at the box office.

The film was poor at single screens and the select premium multiplexes which were okay on Friday failed to grow over the weekend.

Gangs Of Wasseypur has collected 20% less than Shanghai over the first weekend which also had the same target audience and even trending is not as good as that film which had a 30% jump on Saturday and 20% on Sunday.

Rowdy Rathore has best Word Of Mouth since Dabangg

Rowdy Rathore has been the most appreciated film since Dabangg released in 2010. It has seen the best word of mouth since Dabangg which is reflected in trending of its first three run week run. A fourth week of around 7 crore nett will make it most appreciated film since Three Idiots.

If we take into account the all India trending and the fact that it had to compete with release very week it can be said the collections have trended  better than Dabangg but there have been tax changes since Dabanng release. Also Rowdy Rathore had a much bigger single screen release as there are many more digital screens today so it started on more screens where it was going to sustain as compared to Dabangg.

The other well appreciated films since Dabangg are Ready, The Dirty Picture and Housefull 2 going by box office trending. Other films like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Kahaani, Singham and Vicky Donor have also seen great word of mouth but it has been with a sectional audience or a regional audience and not universal which makes a huge difference. The difference sometimes is not huge in box office collections as there varying ticket rates (Rs 20-1000 approx)) but can be huge in the number of people appreciating a film.

Saif not a superhero in my film - Milan Luthria

Milan Luthria denies reports that Saif Ali Khan will be seen as a superhero in his next directorial venture, and adds that people have misinterpreted him.

"No, it's not a superhero film. Saif is not playing a superhero in my film. People have misinterpreted me and come to the conclusion that I am making a same film like everyone else. All I can say is that it's an entertaining film with a twist," Luthria told IANS.

"The film has all the elements of fantasy. When you have a very good script, it becomes difficult to put it into a particular slot or genre," he added.

Producer by Bhushan Kumar, the film is yet-to-be-titled.

Describing Saif's role in the film, Luthria said that "Saif will be seen playing a role that he has never tried before", and added that "even he is trying something that I have not attempted before."

"I have a fantasy element in my film and that's my trump card. In many ways, I can say that it's a very Manmohan Desai kind of a film," he added.

Luthria earlier worked with Saif in his 1999 directorial debut Kachche Dhaage and says Saif has proved his versatility over the years.

"Saif has been proving himself in new ways, be it Dil Chahta Hai, Race, Love Aaj Kal, Ek Hasina Thi or anything else. He has proved his versatility."

"There is a lot of excitement with this film. When we first worked together, that time he was a little raw and I was new. Now we are meeting when we both are at the top," he added.

The director, who is making films for more than a decade, says it is difficult to put a good script into a particular genre.

He explained it by saying that when he was making Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, he was "fed up of listening to people say that I am making a film on gangster. I believe it was an entertaining film."

Talking about Saif starrer, he said: "The film has romance, action and emotion - everything in it. When a best film comes out in our country, it is difficult to phrase it or label it or put it in a particular genre."

Luthria says the leading lady is not yet finalised.

"It's a very interesting character for the leading lady. I am keen to cast a few actresses, but can't talk much about them right now."

Thanks to the success of his Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and The Dirty Picture, many top notch actors are keen to work with him.

Commenting on that, he said: "I am glad that many top actors of our country are keen to work with me and I will not let this opportunity go."

Apart from Saif starrer, Luthria is also wielding the megaphone for Once Upon a Time Again, which stars Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha.

Kahaani makers planning a sequel

Sujoy Ghosh is the man to watch out for. The filmmaker in several languages wants to remake his Kahaani. While Tamil, Telugu and even English versions of the year's sleeper blockbuster are on the anvil, we hear the sequel to Kahaani is now a throbbing reality.

Secretly unknown to the world, Ghosh has been feverishly penning the sequel. And now just when the English, Tamil, Telugu versions of Kahaani are in the pipeline, producers Viacom 18 and Ghosh are all set to start the sequel. And they want to waste no time in carrying the franchise forward.

In fact after Viacom 18 heard of proposed projects in 3 languages of Kahaani, they immediately got in touch with film's co-producer Jayanthilal Gadha to discuss how the remakes would affect the sequel.

"Only after Viacom and Gadha were convinced that the sequel would in no way be affected by the remakes did the process of selling remake rights go forward. Viacom was very clear on the issue. The sequel should not and must not be affected by the remakes," says a source very close to the project.

However a tug 'o' war between the remakes and the sequel is currently on.

Says a source close to the project, "Sujoy who is close to Aditya Chopra and Yashraj Films has been asked to be closely associated with the English-language version of Kahaani. But with Sujoy completely committed to Kahaani 2 and consumed in writing it, his chances of participating in any of the Kahaani remakes is very slim. Viacom 18 are very clear on the issue. They want the sequel to not get affected by the remakes. Sujoy is busy writing the sequel and has cracked an idea."

While details on Kahaani 2 are awaited two components have been locked in by Viacom 18: Vidya Balan and Sujoy Ghosh. The script we understand, will move out of Kolkata and take Vidya's character to a completely new setting.

While further details are awaited, Vikram Malhotra of Viacom 18 admitted, "We are going ahead with the sequel to Kahaani. That's all I can reveal at the moment."

The troubles surrounding superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Wankhede brawl just don't seem to end. Now, lawyer-cum-activist Indrajeet Singh Bhatia filed a private criminal complaint against SRK at a local court in Indore, Madya Pradesh, for his alleged involvement in the fracas at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai last month.

Bhatia filed the case on Tuesday under section 200 of CrPc (examination of complainant) in the court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Sangeeta Tiwari. Admitting the complaint, the court posted the matter to July 9.

Ferrari Ki Sawari starts low, Rowdy Rathore an Average fair in Overseas

UK - £80,000

North America - $240,000

UAE - $150,000

Australia - $32,000

Rowdy Rathore will finish around the $3.4 million mark and is an average fare in Overseas.

Abhay-Sonam back together for Raanjhnaa

Now here's a big news...! What? Abhay Deol has been roped in to play Sonam Kapoor's batch-mate, colleague and love-interest at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in Aanand Rai's Raanjhnaa.

Rumour has it that the director had a tough time convincing Abhay and Sonam to share screen space together after their public exchange of acrimony over Aisha.

Aanand denies this. "They behaved like two mature artistes. They looked at their roles, not at their past history. I see a very special chemistry happening between them in Raanjhanaa."

Dhanush who has been working diligently on his Hindi for his Bollywood debut has asked the director for a month's time to further work on his Hindi diction.

Abhay plays a well-read, articulate soft spoken JNU student who has a relationship with Sonam Kapoor. Dhanush known to do his homework until he gets the role absolutely right, has requested his director to give him time to make his Hindi diction comparable with Abhay's.

Says a source close to the project, "Abhay and Sonam play JNU colleagues. Their characters would be known to one another for eight years in the script. Their characters share similar views on politics and life and are often shown to indulge in brainstorming sessions. Getting Abhay into the intellectual character was easy enough. Sonam with her fashionista's image needed more practice to look convincing as a thinking politically conscious citizen. But the real challenge is for Dhanush. He not only had to learn Hindi from scratch his dialogue delivery should not look incongruous in front of Abhay's easy fluency with the Hindustani language. He has asked for more time before he starts shooting."

The shooting has been pushed forward from May to June to give Dhanush that extra time work on his Hindi.

Says the director Anand Rai, "Yes, we've gone forward to June for various reasons. Dhanush is working on his language. He is currently in Namibia shooting action scenes for his next Tamil film. He joins me in Mumbai from Thursday. And then he is in Mumbai with me for a month working on his language and diction. It's not just the Hindi he also has to master the Varanasi dialect. Abhay plays a very educated product of JNU. Sonam and Abhay share a great camaraderie."

Well we can just hope this one doesn't goes the Aisha way and set the new heights for all related.

Saif the superhero of Milan Luthria!

Saif Ali Khan is all set to play a superhero in Milan Luthria's next film to be produced by T-Series and Milan's Vertex Motion Pictures. The film will be a masala entertainer with a mix of action, adventure, suspense, comedy and great music.

The makers of the film are really happy to have Saif on board. The yet untitled film will see Saif play a superhero character for the first time in his career. The film will also bring together Milan and Saif, who will be working with each other after 13 years. Their last outing was Kachche Dhaage, which released in 1999.

Milan and Saif have been in touch since their Kachche Dhaage days. Milan felt that Saif fit the character to the T. Since Saif was in Istanbul and Milan was in Prague and they were busy with their other films, Milan narrated the script to Saif on the phone. Saif loved the script and immediately said yes.

The female lead will be announced soon. The film will go on floors in 2013 after Milan wraps up the shoot of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2.

Teri Meri Kahaani Opening Day Pre Release Prediction - Gautam Batra

Teri Meri Kahaani is an upcoming Hindi romance drama film directed by Kunal Kohli. The film stars Shahid Kapoor opposite Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles, paired together for the second time after Kaminey. The movie is set to release on 22nd June 2012.

Lets start with the prediction...

1. Promos & Music has been appreciated by audience specially the youth.

2. Good promotional campaign has lead to good buzz.

3. Shahid-Priyanka jodi is well accepted by audience earlier in Kaminey which was a major success so that will help to bring the audience.

4. It will face some competition from another release Gangs Of Wasseypur which is also releasing the same day.

Overall Teri Meri Kahaani is set to take a decent opening at boxoffice and from there wom will decide how far it can go. First day could be in the range of 6-7 crore nett.

Disclaimer:The prediction is my own idea gathered from the surveys & buzz about the movies. It is accurate to best of my knowledge but the final boxoffice figures can be sometimes different due to uncertainity in boxoffice. The figures given are the nett domestic figures.

Rowdy Rathore continues its strong run in third week

Rowdy Rathore was rock steady on its third Monday with collections around the 1.75 crore nett mark. The drop is just 15-20% from Friday. It was a similar story last week. The third week should cross the 15 crore nett mark and film should be around the 125 crore nett mark after three weeks.

It has been noticed that that Rowdy Rathore has really been super strong over its last two Mondays with minimal drops. This is probably due to fact that the new releases over the last two weeks Shanghai and Ferrari Ki Sawaari have limited appreciation.

In some circuits the drop is just 5-10% from Friday.

Ferrari KI Sawari struggles on Monday

Ferrari Ki Sawaari had a low Monday as it collected around 2 crore nett. The drop was around 30% from Friday which is good but collections are at low levels. The film dropped more in places like Gujarat, UP and Rajasthan.

The film had a good jump but it flattered to deceive as with such a jump you expect a Monday around the Friday figure especially when the Friday was low.

The film has collected 14.50 crore nett in four days and should have a 19 crore nett first week. For the film to emerge a major success it will have to go the Vicky Donor way where the weekdays (Mon-Thur) collection remained at the same level on all four days.

Known to be a very active and dominant force behind his films, the Dabanng hero has now taken charge of Telugu actor Ramcharan Teja’s Bollywood debut in Apoorva Lakhia’s remake of the 1973 Amitabh-Jaya hit Zanjeer. Ramcharan, who this week got married to Upasana Kamineni, is Hyderabad superstar Chiranjeevi’s son; and Salman and Chiranjeevi are known to be close friends.

Last week Salman reportedly had a dinner meeting at his Galaxy Apartments residence in Mumbai with Ramcharan and Apoorva where he suggested some radical changes in the Zanjeer remake, including the way Priyanka Chopra’s character was to be packaged and portrayed. That Salman has taken Ramcharan under his wings is known, but how much he is investing in his new protégé from Hyderabad in terms of time and professional advice is a revelation to trade sources in Bollywood.

At the meeting to discuss ways to reinvent and contemporize Zanjeer, Salman – whose father Salim Khan co-wrote the original Zanjeer – gave Ramcharan and Lakhia tips that are now being reportedly incorporated in the film. According to a source, Salman astutely compared the new and old Zanjeers. The first suggestion he made was to include songs for Ramcharan’s character. In the original, Inspector Vijay Khanna (Amitabh Bachchan) was too serious a man to sing and dance. But Salman, who sang and danced his way to success as a cop in Wanted and Dabanng, wanted that to change. He is reported to have told Ramcharan, “You’re one of the best dancers in South Indian cinema. It would be silly not to have you sing and dance.”

Then Salman made many important suggestions about how to bring in a much larger glamour quotient to Priyanka’s character. He felt her character as Mala, the chaaku-churiyawali, could be a lot more attractive. His suggestions included changes in her clothes, styling, songs and choreography. Since Priyanka doesn’t start shooting for Zanjeer until October, her character is reportedly being revamped as per Salman’s suggestions. Apparently, Salman even suggested a hot sizzling item number for Priyanka in the Zanjeer remake.

The question being asked by curious trade pundits is why is Salman taking such a keen interest in Ramcharan’s Bollywood debut? Is it because he feels protective of the 27-year-old son of his friend who has just done four Telugu films? Or is it because Zanjeer was co-written by his father and Salman feels somewhat proprietorial about the project? The answer is both. But Salman especially feels Ramcharan’s future in Bollywood is his personal responsibility.

Ranbir to play lead in Bombay Velvet instead of Ranveer?

After going through a lot of casting upheavals, Anurag Kashyap has finally found his hero in Ranbir Kapoor for his ambitious dream project, Bombay Velvet. He will be romancing with Anushka Sharma in the period film set in the sixties.

If you are wondering what happened to Ranveer Singh who was reportedly signed to play the lead before Ranbir Kapoor entered the picture, here is all the dope.

A reliable source from the crew reveals, "Anurag had almost finalized Ranveer Singh for the lead role. Ranveer who also plays the lead in his production, Lootera, was very keen on working with Anurag as a director. After having a few meetings with him, Kashyap felt that he fitted the bill and was on the verge of signing him. Coincidently, Ranbir Kapoor who was also very keen to work with Anurag called him around that time and expressed his desire to work with him. He told him that he has heard a lot about Bombay Velvet and would love to be part of the film."

"It was a tough call for Anurag to make. Both Ranveer and Ranbir are fine actors and both were very keen to star in his film," adds the source. "Since he is fond of both the actors and was finding it difficult to pick one, Anurag asked his producers to intervene and take the casting decision. The producers went with Ranbir because they felt that not only did he suit the role to the 'T' but also was a bigger and more bankable star. Bombay Velvet is Anurag's most expensive film and will be shot of a mammoth scale. So obviously it made more sense for him to go with a star actor like Ranbir," says the source.

Has it upset Ranveer? "Not at all. He is a mature actor and he knows this is not Anurag's last film. Anurag has assured him that they will definitely work together in future."

Anurag however denied the story saying, "It's not true."

Reportedly, Aamir Khan and also Shah Rukh Khan was considered for the lead role earlier. Apparently, even John Abraham was considered for the lead at some point.

The film based on Mumbai Fables, a semi-fictional study of Bombay in the 1960s by Gyan Prakash, a historian and professor of history at Princeton University, is expected to go on floors by the end of this year.

Rowdy Rathore third saturday business

Rowdy Rathore grossed around 2.90 crore on its third Saturday adding to the 2.10 crore nett on its third Friday. It has collected 5 crore nett approx in two days of its third week.

The fim is recording better numbers than the new release Ferrari Ki Sawaari in Gujarat, UP, Bihar, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan. The collections in Bihar are more than double of Ferrari Ki Sawaari despite Rowdy Rathore being in week three.

The last two Sunday's have seen a huge jump for Rowdy Rathore as family audiences flock to see the film but this week the competition in the form of Ferrari Ki Sawaari also has families as the main target audience.

Ferrari Ki Sawari shows growth on Saturday

Ferrari Ki Sawaari showed growth on Saturday as it was around 1 crore nett higher than its Friday business of 2.80 crore nett. Basically its slightly better trending than Shanghai released last week but at a slightly lower level.

Shanghai had collected 7.50 crore nett in its first two days while Ferrari Ki Sawaari has collected 6.50-6.75 crore nett in the same period.

The problem for Ferrari Ki Sawaari is that the growth is driven mainly by multiplexes of Mumbai circuit with Delhi/UP and East Punjab the other key areas for multiplex films should have grown more.

East Punjab has been affected by the Punjabi film Desi Romeos which is doing very well there but Delhi city multiplexes grew just 40% while successful multiplex films like Vicky Donor and Kahaani showed 70-100% growth on Saturday at Delhi city multiplexes.

Delhi and Punjab are the key for good long term business as its these circuits along with Gujarat which hold up best after week one.

The key for Ferrari Ki Sawaari is the Sunday family audience and if the families come and show appreciation then the film can still do well. The weekend numbers are likely to be below the mark but if there is appreciation amongst family audience then it should hold up over the weekdays and come out with a decent first week total.
