Plans have been confirmed for Joker. The Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha starrer fantasy-adventure entertainer would be releasing all over on 30th August 2012. This development also puts an end to speculations around the film's eventual arrival, something that was making the rounds of trade and industry circles for last few weeks.
While Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV Motion Pictures confirmed the news, director Shirish Kunder added that plans for next 10 months have been chalked out. He said, "Yes, we have 15 days of shooting left which would be completed in November. Post that we would be working on VFX and 3D for six odd months and then last couple of months would be reserved for an all around promotional campaign."
Joker had gone on floors early this year and over 70% of the film has already been canned. Since the film is being shot in 3D, there has been added emphasis on getting the entire shot taking right in the very first go as the team can't afford to re-do anything.
One wonders though what took the makers of Joker to wait for so long before making a formal announcement. After all a film starring Akshay Kumar typically gets completed in a jiffy and announcement of it's release plans are typically made well in advance, case in point being Desi Boyz, Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore and Khiladi 786 - Made In Punjab.
"Well, the speed at which technology is growing, we wanted to make best use of what was available to us after we were through with the final schedule. We didn't want to announce a release date and then regret losing out on something new that would have come up at a later stage", reasons Shirish, "Now that we are into the final schedule, it is time to get into post production pronto. We have the latest technology available to us now and we are going ahead with that. It would take us six more months to reach the finishing line now and hence 30th August is just apt."
This development also means Akshay Kumar would now have a film of his releasing almost every second month starting April. While Housefull 2 (April) would be first to arrive, Rowdy Rathore (June), Joker (August) and Khiladi 786 - Made In Punjab (November) would follow one after another. Meanwhile one also waits with bated breath to know about the arrival ofOnce Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 which is most likely to move ahead of it's original August 2012 plans.
