Heroine inspired from Manisha Koirala's Life?

Former actress and Nepali beauty Manisha Koirala, who achieved immense success in the 90's, saw failure in her career and personal life apparently in the last ten years. The actress was spotted in an inappropriate state, probably drunken, couple of times and speculations were also doing the rounds about her frequent relationships and their failures. If rumours are to be believed, Manisha is also going through a tough patch in her married life.

Now, the grapevine suggests that director Madhur Bhandarkar's significant project HEROINE's plotline is inspired from the former actress' personal and professional life. The female protagonist in the film will be played by Kareena Kapoor. Earlier, it was believed that the film is inspired from the life of the Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe.

However, the director has denied the reports saying that though HEROINE revolves around the life of a once successful film actress, as the film title suggests, but it's not inspired from Manisha Koirala's life.

Shahid too enters in the race of South Remakes

UTV is all set to remake south super hit Vettai in Hindi. We heard the makers are keen to sign Shahid in the lead role.

When most actors - from Salman Khan to Akshay Kumar - are open to doing South remakes, why not Shahid Kapoor?

Originally directed by N Lingusamy, Vettai released last month and became a big hit too. Looking at the success of the film producers have decided to remake the movie in Hindi with the same director.

Vettai has Arya and R Madhavan in lead roles. As far as the Hindi version is concerned, Shahid has been considered to play the role Madhavan did in the original. Makers are still on the lookout for another actor to fill in Arya's shoes. Vettai will have two actors and two actresses.

Looking at Shahid's past film record, he has good rapport with UTV and has delivered many hits too. If he signs this action film, this will be his first Hindi remake of a south film.

Jodi Breakers Monday Business

Jodi Breakers had low collections on Monday as it grossed around 80-85 lakhs. The drop is only 45% from Friday which would be okay normally but the Friday collections were low and to drop 45% from there means little hope of even a decent run.

Jodi Breakers has collected around nearly 6.75 crore nett in four days and the week will be around 8.25-8.50 crore nett and looking at Monday trending the film will just be able to cross the 10 crore nett mark for lifetime business.

The collections are down all over, even in multiplexes that started a bit better meaning there has been no appreciation for the film with the paying public.

Jodi Breakers two day business

Jodi Breakers showed growth of around 20% on day two as collections went to around 1.90 crore nett from Friday numbers of around 1.60 crore nett. The film showed hardly any growth at mass centres while urban areas showed decent growth.

But again with a 1000 theatre release these numbers are low and with the film just depending on big city multiplexes there is not much hope for the film. Like Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya the film was well promoted but the film may not even collect its print and advertising costs which are around 6 crore from its domestic theatrical revenue.

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya shows growth on saturday

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya showed good growth on saturday as collections jumped 30% plus but problem is the collections are still low for a film which is not low budget and an extensive release across the country.

Saturday grossed around 2.40 crore nett as against the 1.80 crore nett on Friday. If the Saturday number came on Friday and then it grow 30% from there then it would have meant a decent weekend but a low starting point has made it tough for the film.

The film was helped by good growth at multiplexes in metros where collections were very low on the first day. The collections at these places were 30-40% lower than Jodi Breakers on day one but much closer on Saturday.

Salmaan Khan has all support for Saif

Salman Khan, who is back here after the shooting of " Ek Tha Tiger" in Cuba, came out in support of his fellow actor Saif Ali Khan, saying that media should have waited for his version and dug out the facts before running what was carried on television.

"Even the press was all for the other guy. They didn't even bother to ask what happened to Saif. Did Saif got wacked first or not? We should have waited for Saif to come out and say what he had to say," Salman told reporters after he was aksed to comment on the incident.

"We are actors and we have been in the industry for the longest time. Saif has been in the industry for 18 years. We knew the guy," added the actor.

Saif was involved in a scuffle early at Wasabi, the Japanese restaurant at Taj Mahal Palace with South Africa-based Indian businessman Iqbal Sharma. The latter alleged that Saif abused and assaulted him and his father-in-law and filed a complained at the Colaba police station, the actor said he was provoked to do so.

Following Sharma's complain the 41-year-old actor was arrested with two others -- Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi.

Police detained the trio at the Marine Drive police station and later brought them to the Colaba police station. The interrogation of the trio lasted an hour. Later, the actor and his two friends were freed on personal bonds of Rs.3,000 each.

According to Sharma, Saif called him an "idiot" for complaining about the actor's loud conduct at the restaurant. He said he and his family had requested the restaurant manager to ask Saif and his friends, which included Kareena, Amrita Arora and Malaika Arora Khan, to keep their voices down.

Salman said: "If you have gone into a restaurant, you are not there to manao matam (mourn). You are there to have dinner and drinks. My family was there, everybody was there. I am sure he (Sharma) might be right, but my point is that find out the entire thing and then come on TV."

The actor, who himself has been involved in hit and run case, and scuffles, says the blame always comes on actors.

Will Sajid Khan & Prabhudeva mark the return of Akshay Kumar? - Gautam Batra

Its the Sajid Khan who gave Akshay Kumar his highest grossing movie with Housefull which is still among the list of all time highest grossing hindi movies. Now, when he is coming back along with the sequel of Hit movie and taking Akshay Kumar as a major part of it. There are lot of expectations attached to the movie. Recently the trailer of the movie was released which got tremendous response from all type of audiences. The buzz has picked up so much that it is already ahead of all upcoming big movies. Also, Sajid Khan is known for his entertaining movies & has good taste of music so if everything goes well Housefull 2 can surely prove a big hit for Akshay.

Same is the case with Akshay's another upcoming movie 'Rowdy Rathore' directed by 'Prabhudeva' which is said to be his hardcore action movie. Buzz is high due to Akshay's return in action and also due to the director of the movie i.e. Prabhudeva. Prabhudeva who marked the return of Salmaan Khan with 'Wanted' is coming back with Akshay Kumar which is a big promise itself for a Blockbuster movie. The posters of the movie which released in past were immensely loved by masses & the dialogues like 'Ilaaka Tera Dhamaaka Mera', 'Naya Saal, Naya Maal' are already popular among people. The movie is too much hot in trade as people are quiet excited to see Khiladi Kumar back in action. Reportedly the sattelite rights of movie were sold at huge 45 crore which is a big thing.

But one thing which is the basic need for universal hit is the content. No doubt both of the movies will open to huge response but good content is the only thing which will make it a success & mark the return of Akshay Kumar. So with all the good hopes Wassupbollywood wishes all the luck to him & the team of both the movies.

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya & Jodi Breakers open to dull response

Jodi Breakers and Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya have both opened to a poor 20-25% response. The collections are a bit better for Jodi Breakers at some stations and Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya at others.

Jodi Breakers has a bigger release at multiplexes while Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya has a bigger single screen release and at the better single screens.

In Mumbai, Jodi Breakers has the better opening, North India is a mixed picture with Delhi NCR showing better collections for Jodi Breakers while Punjab and UP are better for Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya.

Both films will be dependent on word of mouth and the film with better reports will likely come out on top on day one. Also if they are to improve it will have to be substantial and fast to come out with even average first day business.

Jodi Breakers Movie Review - Komal Nahta

Business rating: 1/5 (One star)

Star cast: R. Madhavan, Bipasha Basu, Omi Vaidya, Helen, Milind Soman, Dipannita Sharma Atwal, Mrinalini Sharma.

What’s Good: A few comedy scenes; the music.

What’s Bad: The defective screenplay; the uninspiring and meaningless second half.

Verdict: Jodi Breakers is a dull show. It will not be able to break even.

Loo break: Several.

Watch or Not?: Watch it for the performances and the music, but do not expect much else.

Prasar Visions’ Jodi Breakers (UA) is the story of Sid (R. Madhavan) and Sonali (Bipasha Basu), both of who are professional divorce facilitators. They make warring couples divorce one another more easily than usual. Sid has himself gone through a divorce and is sadder to have lost his car (taken by his wife) than his wife. Sid and Sonali meet one day and decide to work in partnership. Their partner in crime is Nainsukhlal Patel alias Nano (Omi Vaidya) who owns a bar where Sid and Sonali usually meet their clients.

One of their clients is Ira (Mrinalini Sharma). Sid takes Sonali to Greece, telling her that Ira’s husband, Marc (Milind Soman), is romancing his girlfriend, Maggie (Dipannita Sharma Atwal), there. They even click pictures of Marc and Maggie romancing but rather than facilitating the divorce of Marc and Ira, they, for once, decide to reignite the love between Marc and Ira while getting Maggie out of Marc’s life. They succeed by playing all sorts of evil games to prove to Marc that Maggie is a woman without morals.

It is then revealed that Ira was the actual outsider who was angling for Marc’s wealth and that Marc and Maggie were married to one another. So, in effect, Sid and Sonali had facilitated the separation of a happily married couple and had gotten Ira close to Marc. It also turns out that Ira is the ex-wife of Sid and had taken Sid into confidence. In return for Sid facilitating her alliance with Marc, she returns Sid’s car to him and also absolves him of the responsibility to pay alimony.

Sonali is shocked when she learns that Ira is Sid’s ex-wife and that Sid had purposely kept her in the dark, making her act against her principles. She is very unhappy about being instrumental in separating a loving couple (Marc and Maggie) just so that Sid could get his ex-wife off his back. This leads to Sonali walking out on Sid whom she had started loving. Sid and Sonali’s partnership also breaks.

Heart-broken at losing his new love, Sid decides to make amends. He pleads with Sonali to join him in getting Marc and Maggie together again. Sonali makes it clear to him that although she’d never partner him again, she would work with him this one last time so that she could undo the wrong committed by her inadvertently. Sid and Sonali seek the assistance of Marc’s grandmother (Helen) who lives in Goa. The grandmother manages to call Marc and Maggie to Goa to her house and feigns ignorance about their breakup.

What happens then? Do Sid and Sonali succeed in their mission of uniting Marc and Maggie? Or is it impossible to bring Marc and Maggie together again? Does the separated couple ever get to know of the role played by Sid and Sonali in their breakup? What about Ira? Does she get to know of Sid and Sonali’s mission? What is her stand? And does Sonali forgive Sid?

Jodi Breakers Review: Script Analysis

Sanyukta Chawla’s story about two divorce facilitators messing it up and, in the process, also messing up their own relationship is quite novel but that’s about all! Beyond that, the drama is full of loopholes. Screenplay writer Aakash Kaushik has done a job that leaves a lot to be desired. The biggest defect of the screenplay is that the film’s second half – the entire drama created to get the separated couple together again, seems unwarranted as merely telling them the truth would’ve sufficed. Orchestrating the drama with the help of the grandmother would’ve worked if and only if admitting to their mistake and confessing before Marc and Maggie would not have been enough – and that would’ve been the case if the love between Marc and Maggie had gotten over completely. For, the orchestrated drama seems to be directed more at reigniting the love than anything else. But the fact that there’s no more love between Marc and Maggie has not been established and so the entire drama to reignite it looks meaningless. Maggie is shown to be sad and shattered, not out of love. Even Marc is shocked and hurt at what he is led to believe about Maggie; if he has fallen out of love, it is not established well enough.

Also, the fact that Sonali is very principled and Sid had to hide the fact about Ira being his ex-wife from her and also the other facts of the case from her is established after the facts are revealed to the audience. A far better option would’ve been for the screenplay writer to establish the fact about her principles beforehand.

All in all, the drama in the film’s second half doesn’t hold. And the incidents in the first half are too stretched to create much of an impact. In other words, the screenplay is defective. Dialogues, penned by Aakash Kaushik, are fairly nice. The muting of the sound in some of the dialogues, due to censor objections, sticks out like a sore thumb.

Jodi Breakers Review: Star Performances

R. Madhavan acts with effortless ease, very smoothly slipping into the character of Sid. He makes several scenes a delight to watch because of his natural acting. Bipasha Basu looks pretty and performs ably. Omi Vaidya has his moments of comedy. However, the scene of his speech in front of a group of ladies is hardly funny and will not be understood by many among those who do not consume alcohol. Besides, it looks a poor cousin of and too heavily inspired by the actor’s landmark speech scene in 3 Idiots. Milind Soman does an average job. Dipannita Sharma Atwal is alright. Mrinalini Sharma is quite earnest. Helen lends fair support. Mazhar Syed (as Sid’s friend, Sahil), Tarana Raj (as Sid’s cardiologist friend, Isha), Paritosh Sand (as the doctor) and Bomie (as the old man on the operation table) provide adequate support.

Jodi Breakers Review: Direction & Music

Ashwini Chaudhary’s direction is average. His narrative style does not get the audience hooked on to the drama. Of course, he is also handicapped by the weak script. Salim-Sulaiman’s music is very nice. Kunwara and Darmiyaan songs are the pick of the lot. The Bipasha song is also appealing. Mujhko teri zaroorat hai has lilt and melody. Irshad Kamil’s lyrics are praiseworthy. Song picturisations (Rajeev Surti and Bosco-Caesar) are good but could’ve been better. Camerawork (by Arun Varma) is eye-filling. The locales of Greece are a treat for the eyes. Sets (Aparna Raina) are appropriate. Production values are nice.

Jodi Breakers Review: Komal Nahta’s Verdict

On the whole, Jodi Breakers is not too much of an entertainer and will not be able to break even. Considering the dull start and lack of merits in it, it will entail losses to all concerned.

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya Movie Review - Komal Nahta

Business rating: 2.5/5 (Two-and-a-half stars)

Star cast: Ritesh Deshmukh, Genelia D’souza, Om Puri, Tinnu Anand.

What’s Good: Several comedy scenes; the hit music; the family drama; the emotional drama.

What’s Bad: Some clichéd comedy scenes; lack of justification for the love angle.

Verdict: The entertaining second half and the hit music save Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya and make it a plus fare for Tips and UTV. However, a few of the distributors who have acquired territorial distribution rights at fancy prices will not be able to make money.

Loo break: A couple in the first half.

Watch or Not?: Watch it for getting entertained.

UTV Motion Pictures and Tips Industries Ltd.’s Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya (UA) is, as the title suggests, a love story. Viren (Ritesh Deshmukh) is an autorickshaw driver who works for Mini’s (Genelia D’souza) father, Bhatti (Tinnu Anand). Mini is a tomboy who loves adventures. Mini’s marriage is finalised with a boy, Sunny (Kartar Cheema), who is only interested in going to Canada and looks at Mini as his ticket to the foreign land because she is a green card holder. Mini, of course, doesn’t approve of the prospective groom but all her pleas to her father to not go ahead with the proposed marriage fall on deaf ears. Around the same time, Bhatti’s action causes Viren a loss of his hard-earned money to the tune of Rs. 60,000. Seeing this as an opportunity and wanting to not marry Sunny, Mini orchestrates her own kidnapping by Viren. She asks Viren to demand ransom money from her father for her release, from which he could keep his Rs. 60,000 and give her the rest.

Days pass and Mini begins to get fond of Viren. Viren also likes her. Even as their love story is just blossoming, Viren and Mini are kidnapped and taken to the haveli of Chaudhary (Om Puri). It turns out that Viren alias Chhotu is Chaudhary’s son. He had left his home six years ago as he did not approve of his father’s dubious ways of earning money by kidnapping people. Staying in the Chaudhary’s house are his younger brother (Gurmeet Sajan), Viren’s mother (Smita Jayakar), foster sister, Dhaani (Chitrashi Rawat), and foster brother, Naidu (Navin Prabhakar), as also those kidnapped and in his custody. Chaudhary is quite an autocratic person but Mini soon wins his heart and also gets his softer side to the fore. Others in the household also grow extremely fond of Mini who, in any case, wants to get married to Viren. But Viren has his own reasons for not wishing to take Mini as his wife.

Simultaneously, as is his wont, Chaudhary has asked Bhatti to send him ransom money to secure the freedom of his daughter. Here, Mini impresses Chaudhary by giving him tips to manage his kidnapping business more efficiently. For this reason, Chaudhary sees a prospective daughter-in-law in Mini who would successfully inherit his business.

What happens thereafter? Does Bhatti come to Chaudhary with the ransom money? Does Mini return home with her father? Or does she stay back to marry Viren? Does Viren agree to marry her? Do his parents agree to take Mini as their daughter-in-law? Does Bhatti want Mini to marry Viren or Sunny?

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya Review: Script Analysis

Dhieyo Sandhu’s story of a girl falling in love with her kidnapper is not new, the only difference here being that he is not her real kidnapper but is rather forced to kidnap her. However, what differentiates this story from the earlier ones of this kind is the family angle of the boy. Therefore, the second half of the film becomes more of a family drama rather than remaining a love story, which is both, good and entertaining. The screenplay, also penned by Dhieyo Sandhu, is routine in the first half. Many of the scenes are clichéd and although the emphasis is on humour and comedy, several of the light-hearted scenes don’t evoke the desired response from the audience. In fact, some of the comedy scenes look contrived and fall flat on their face.

But things take a dramatic turn after interval. The drama becomes very entertaining and enjoyable once the focus shifts to ‘Agwaha House’, as Chaudhary’s haveli is nicknamed by people because of his business of aghwaha (kidnapping). Not just the characterisation of Chaudhary but his dialogues and entire demeanour are also so entertaining that the audience enjoys every bit of the post-interval portion. As it is, the writer has not been able to convince the audience about Mini falling in love with Viren, a mere autorickshaw driver, which is also why the family drama in the Chaudhary household appeals far more. In fact, the love angle in the pre-interval portion is the weakest part of the screenplay.

The pre-climax more than lives up to the build-up in the second half of the film and will actually make the weak-hearted cry while getting a lump in the throats of the strong-hearted. The best part of the pre-climax is the ease with which the emotions take over and consume the viewers from what till then is essentially a light-hearted fun film. The climax may be predictable but again, the lecture by Chaudhary before the climax makes it (climax) more interesting. Also, the demands made by Viren of Mini in the last scene are cute and instantly evoke laughter. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that save for the emotional pre-climax, the second half has a number of light scenes which bring a smile on the faces of the viewers and, oftentimes, also elicit laughter. Dhieyo Sandhu’s dialogues are very nice.

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya Review: Star Performances

Ritesh Deshmukh does a truly fine job, especially in the post-interval portion and in the first part of the first half. Genelia D’souza lives her role in the second half and even her going overboard in a few scenes in the first half is easily forgotten because of her superlative and absolutely endearing performance in the latter half. Om Puri deserves high praise for his acting. He is just too wonderful and it wouldn’t be incorrect to say that he and Genelia are the life of the post-interval portion. Smita Jayakar puts in a dignified show. Tinnu Anand plays his part well. Chitrashi Rawat has her moments and makes the most of them. She is endearing. Navin Prabhakar also does a fine job. Gurmeet Sajan is good as Chaudhary’s younger brother who never talks. Kartar Cheema does what is required of him in the role of Sunny. As his parents, Rana Jung Bahadur and Satwant Kaur are alright. Amandeep, Aman Randhawa and Gagan Bhangu, all as Sunny’s friends, lend fair support. Rana Ranbir (as petrol pump owner Tony Singh), Akshita Sharma (as Mini’s friend, Softy), Nishan Cheema and Nihal Purba (both as Viren’s friends), Harsh Sethi (as Chaudhary’s aide, Jatta) and Diljit Dosanjh (as himself in the Pee pa song) provide adequate support. Veena Malik lends oomph and sex appeal in her graceful Fann ban gayi song.

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya Review: Direction & Music

Mandeep Kumar shows promise as director in his maiden Hindi film. The latter part of the first half gives one the impression that he is losing control but he strikes back after interval and handles the scenes with such clarity and command that he makes his mark for sure. His treatment of the emotional scenes deserves distinction marks. Music (Sachin-Jigar) is a major plus point of the film. Every song is a delight to hear and comes as an entertaining interlude in the film. Piya, Jeene de and Tu mohabbat hai are excellent songs. Pee pa and Fann ban gayi have appeal for the masses and front-benchers. Picturisation of the songs (by Piyush Panchal, Geeta Kapur and Pappu-Maalu) are good but could’ve been better. The picturisation of the remixed version of Tu mohabbat hai, by Vinnil Markan, is nice. Lyrics, penned by Priya Panchal and Mayur Puri, are very appealing. Background score (by Sachin-Jigar) is okay. Chirantan Das’ cinematography is of a good standard. Kaushal-Moses’ action scenes are okay. Editing, by Manish More, is good but needed to be crisper. Production and technical values are of a nice standard.

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya Review: Komal Nahta’s Verdict

On the whole, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya is an entertaining film and will, therefore, be liked by families. Its music is a major plus point just as its second half is. A couple of territorial distributors, who have paid fancy prices, may not make money, but profits to Tips and UTV are assured. In fact, Tips has already made money on its investment.

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu two week total business

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu struggled in its second week as it grossed around 6.75-7 crore nett which means a drop of 75% plus as compared to the 30.50 crore nett in week one.

The collections of the film came down very badly after Maha Shivaratri on Monday. The Tuesday figures were 50% lower than Monday at places.

The two week business of the film is around the 37.50 crore nett but it may not hit the 40 crore nett mark as collections are very low at the start of the third week and that too on limited shows.

The film has emerged a hit in Mysore while Mumbai, Delhi/UP, East Punjab and West Bengal have seen average/above average business. The other circuits dominated by single screens have given poor performance.

Agent Vinod Theatrical Trailer 2

Manoj Bajpai to play CBI officer in Akshay Kumar's upcoming Special Chabbis

Manoj Bajpai has a very tough task on ahead. He has to play the character that Akshay Kumar will be masquerading as in Neeraj Pandey's real-life heist drama 'Special Chabbis'.

To recap a bit, the film is based on the real-life daring heist in 1987 where an unknown man posing as 'CBI officer Mon Singh' recruited 26 men and executed a daylight raid on the Opera House branch of Tribhuvandas Bhimji Jewellers, and disappeared with jewellery worth lakhs.

Akshay Kumar has been recruited to play the imposer CBI officer. Now interestingly Manoj Bajpai has been roped in to play the real CBI officer.

"So you could say Akshay and Manoj would be playing spitting images of one another, one real and the other an imposter," says a source.

Manoj who hasn't played a cop since 'Shool' and 'Jaago' is very excited about getting the hang of a role where he has to play against Akshay Kumar within the same space.

Says a friend of Manoj, "It's a real challenge. Because Manoj has to be exactly what Akshay's character is posing to be. It's a tough role requiring loads of preparation. And it comes at a time when Manoj Bajpai has to prepare for his role of a naxalite in Prakash Jha's next."

Manoj and director Neeraj Pandey remained unavailable for comment.

Don 2 tops in Mysore, Agneepath beats Dabangg in Mumbai

Saif in trouble for assaulting South African trade honcho

After Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, it's now Saif Ali Khan who's got punch happy.

If latest reports are to be believed, the actor got into a scuffle in a five star hotel pub last night and apparently punched a man in his face and broke his nose.

A case under section 325 of the IPC has been registered against Saif. The actor may face seven years imprisonment if arrested and convicted for physical assault.

The incident took place last night at Wasabi restaurant, Taj Hotel when he, along with Kareena, Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita Arora Ladak and a few friends, were having dinner.

Iqbal M Sharma, a temporary resident of Juhu, was sitting with his family at an adjoining table. According to reports, Iqbal complained about the clamour that Saif and his friends made. This ticked off Saif and a scuffle broke between the two. Saif, reportedly, told Iqbal to go to a library to find quiet.

Some reports suggested that the fight actually broke between Amrita Arora Ladak's husband Shakeel Ladak and Iqbal. But it was only when Saif intervened that he got into a brawl with Iqbal.

Post the scuffle, Iqbal lodged a complaint that Saif and two of his associates assaulted him with fist blows, causing fracture to his nose. A case has been registered against the actor with the Colaba police station.

According to Times Now, Iqbal M Sharma is the deputy director of department of trade & investment, South Africa. He is a South African national of Indian origin. Iqbal told Times Now that Saif and his friends abused him and his father-in-law verbally and assaulted them physically.

Hawaldar Welkar of the Colaba Police station in Mumbai confirmed the news and told, "Yes, a case was registered against Saif Ali Khan by Iqbal Sharma, last night for some fight that took place between them in Hotel Taj last night. Rest of the details are with my boss ACP Iqbal Sheikh."

When contacted ACP Iqbal Sheikh said, "We are conducting an inquiry into the matter and we will be questioning every one involved in this case. If required we will be arresting who ever is at fault."

Meanwhile the people at Wasabi refused to comment on the incident. Pankaj Singh, the floor manager at the Wasabi said, "I wasn't here last night so I don't know about anything that happened at the restaurant nor have I heard anything from anyone here."

Papa Toh Band Bajaye - Housefull 2

Ek Deewana Tha opens to empty houses

Ek Tha Deewana had a dull opening of 5-10% and will find it tough going. The other releases Married To America and Question Mark were no shows.

It will be practically like an open week for Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu as that film will lead this week and continue to collect well in metros although outside metros the collections will have a pretty big drop.

source: http://www.boxofficeindia.com/boxnewsdetail.php?page=shownews&articleid=4054&nCat=

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu First Week Business

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu had a a good first week of around 31.50 crore nett. The film had an average start but picked up Saturday and had a strong Valentines Day on Tuesday. The collections fell in most circuits on Wednesday but Mumbai held up as Thursday was election holiday in Maharashtra so Wednesday evening was strong in Mumbai. Mumbai also held up on Thursday due to the holiday.

The film has done well in Mumbai, Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Mysore and around 80% of the business of the film has come from these four circuits.

The drop in collections after Valentines Day outside Mumbai circuit probably means that 50 crore nett business may be tough and a more realistic lifetime business total would be around 45 crore nett.

Ek Deewana Tha Movie Review - Komal Nahta

Prateik falls in love at first sight with Amy Jackson, who comes from an orthodox family. But when Prateik persists in his wooing, Amy breaks her marriage with another man and confesses her love for him. What happens then? Read the review of Ekk Deewana Tha for more.

Business rating: 1 / 5 stars (One star)

Star cast: Prateik, Amy Jackson, Manu Rishi.

What’s Good: A few light scenes; the Hosanna song.

What’s Bad: The routine story; the weak screenplay; lack of feeling of empathy for the two lead characters.

Verdict: Ekk Deewana Tha will go largely unnoticed by the audience.

Loo break: Several in the post-interval portion.

Watch or Not?: Watch it for the Hosanna song.

Fox Star Studios, Photon Kathas Production and R.S. Infotainment Pvt. Ltd.’s Ekk Deewana Tha (UA) is a love story. Remake of the Tamil hit, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, it is about a Maharashtrian Brahmin boy, Sachin Kulkarni (Prateik), and a Malayali Christian girl, Jessie (Amy Jackson). Sachin is an engineering graduate who wants to become a film director. Jessie’s family is very orthodox and watching movies or dating are considered taboo in the family. They both live in Bombay.

Sachin falls head over heels in love with Jessie the moment he sees her. He tries to woo her but Jessie, aware of her strict father and brother’s stand on matters of love and romance, does not really respond. However, slowly but surely, Sachin succeeds in striking up friendship with Jessie. Soon, he expresses his love to her and even proposes marriage. This infuriates Jessie for which Sachin apologises to her even if that means going all the way to Kerala where Jessie has gone to meet her grandmother. Jessie forgives him and the two start meeting once again in Bombay. Of course, Sachin still loves her whereas Jessie treats him as a good friend.

Sachin gets the shock of his life when one day, Jessie tells him that she is going to Kerala with her family to get married to the boy her father had selected for her. Unable to control his feelings for her, Sachin reaches Kerala alongwith his cameraman-friend, Anay (Manu Rishi), who is also his confidant. To his utter surprise, Jessie refuses to get married to the boy and says as much to the priest in the church.

By now aware of the friendship between Jessie and Sachin, Jessie’s brother, who has seen Sachin in the church, beats him up as he assumes that it is because of him that Jessie has called off the marriage. However, Jessie insists, Sachin is not the reason for her calling off the marriage and adds, she did not want to wed the boy selected by her father. However, within minutes, she confesses to Sachin that it is also because of him (Sachin) that she had cancelled her marriage. When Sachin asks her to marry him, she pleads with him to run away from there as otherwise, her brother would beat him up again.

Sachin leaves Kerala and gets an assistant director’s job with filmmaker Ramesh Sippy. Even while he is shooting in an obscure place, Jessie telephones him one day from the airport and informs him that she was coming to meet him. But Sachin dissuades her, saying that the place was not good enough for her and that her presence there would make him feel awkward. Jessie is both, sad and angry. Sachin comes back to Bombay after a few days to meet Jessie but now, she tells him, it’s all over and that he should forget her and stop meeting her. Sachin’s pleas to her to reconsider her decision fall on deaf ears.

Time flies by. Sachin is given to understand that Jessie has gotten married. He busies himself in writing his own script based on his own love story. Meanwhile, a girl working in Ramesh Sippy’s unit falls in love with Sachin. He casts her as the heroine of his film. The film is applauded when released.

What happens to Sachin and Jessie’s love story? Do Sachin and Jessie meet? Is Jessie already married? Or did she not marry? What about Sachin’s film heroine? Does he marry her? The last part of the film answers these questions.

It must be added here that the film has been made with two different endings.

Ekk Deewana Tha Review: Script Analysis

Gautham Menon’s story is the usual boy-meets-girl and hurdles-in-love story. The screenplay, also penned by Gautham Menon, is full of holes and doesn’t involve the viewer. The love story is so half-baked that at no point of time does the audience feel empathy for the two lovers. Also, it is so slow and so long-drawn that the drama bores the viewer no end. But while these are basic problems with the screenplay, there are a number of flaws too. Jessie tells her father that Sachin is not the reason for the marriage being called off and, after barely a few minutes, she tells Sachin that he is also the reason for her calling off the marriage. This means, she lied to her father. This lie does not go too well with Jessie’s characterisation. Sachin forces Jessie not to come to him in the obscure place he is shooting but this looks like a lame excuse to only elongate the drama. Any boy who loves his girlfriend the way Sachin loves Jessie would be overjoyed to receive his girlfriend and would never talk of a feeling of awkwardness the way Sachin does. Again, Jessie’s sudden change of heart when Sachin comes from his shooting is unexplained. Has she fallen out of love because he did not allow her to travel to where he was shooting or was there some other reason? If it was because she was precluded from going to meet him, it is a silly reason to fall out of love – as silly as Sachin asking her not to come to him. And if it is for some other reason, well, the audience needs to be told the reason. Actually, overall the love story looks so half-baked that one doesn’t even feel sorry when the lovers face hurdles. And there are so many opportunities they lose that the audience actually gets irritated when they keep meeting and parting ways. Yet another major minus point is that Jessie has been shown to have the courage to call off her marriage right in the church but not the courage to tell her father and brother that she wants to marry Sachin. Somehow, this whole double-standards game doesn’t ring true. What’s more, if the romance doesn’t gladden the heart, the emotions fail to touch the heart completely. Yes, a few scenes are fairly entertaining but they aren’t enough.

Manu Rishi’s dialogues are routine.

Ekk Deewana Tha Review: Star Performances

Prateik does well in some scenes but falls short of the demands of other scenes. He is suitably shy in the initial reels but he fails to deliver in the more dramatic ones. Amy Jackson looks fairly nice and makes an average debut. She is fair in some scenes and very ordinary in others. Manu Rishi is alright. More than his acting, it is the scenes which he has that are somewhat entertaining. Sachin Khedekar, Ramesh Sippy (as himself) and Samantha Ruth Prabhu lend ordinary support. Babu Anthony and Vikas Menon are okay.

Ekk Deewana Tha Review: Direction & Music

Gautham Menon’s direction is too ordinary to make an impact. His script is lacklustre and his narrative style fails to lift the drama to a level which can involve the viewer. A.R. Rahman’s music is good but the hit or super-hit status is missing. The Hosanna song is already very popular and its picturisation (by Brinda) is quite eye-filling. The other songs are nice but that’s not enough for a youthful love story. Other song picturisations are commonplace. Javed Akhtar’s lyrics are appealing. Silva’s action scenes are functional. Cinematography, by M.S. Prabhu, is good. Anthony’s editing passes muster.

Ekk Deewana Tha Review: Komal Nahta’s Verdict

On the whole, Ekk Deewana Tha is a poor show devoid of entertainment value. It will fail at the ticket windows. Given its poor start, the film will go down in history as a non-starter.
