Mere Brother Ki Dulhan three week total business

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan collected around 4 crore nett in week three. The total so far(3weeks) is now 57.25 crore nett. The movie dropped hugely about 75 % from the last week due to the release of two movies Mausam & Speedy Singhs but it has already done its work. The lifetime will be anywhere near 60 crore.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is the second big Hit of Imraan Khan this year. Before it Delhi Belly was Super Hit.

Force first day business, Mausam & Speedy Singhs Flop

Force had a fair first day of around 4.75 crore nett as per early estimates. The film did well in parts of the country but was let down by business in the multiplexes of North India. It performed well in the single screens of UP but the multiplexes of Delhi and Punjab were low.

The performance was good in places like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar and Orissa. The films fate is dependent on whether it can show good growth on Saturday and Sunday. Normal weekend growth can take it to 17-18 crore nett weekend which would be a decent total.

Force is the biggest John Abraham solo lead opening and the collections are just a bit lower than his biggest multistarrer openers New York and Dostana.

Mausam fell badly after a decent weekend as it collected 28 crore nett in week one. The 8th day has seen a huge drop. FLOP

Speedy Singhs grossed a poor 3.50 crore nett in its first week. FLOP

John's Force washes out other releases

Force has taken a good 60% plus start at many places while other places were average. All in all its a good to decent start and it will be interesting to see what number the first day gives at it is a big release. Some centres were even 80% plus on the first show.

The other releases Hum Tum Aur Shabana and Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster had a poor 10-15% opening while collections of Chargesheet and Tere Mere Phere were very low at 5-10%.

Force has just wiped out the competition and leads the others by a huge distance and is the only one which really stands a chance to make an impact at the boxoffice.

Mausam First Week Business Early Estimates

Mausam went downhill on the weekdays and kept on dropping heavily each day. The film grossed 28 crore nett after a 20.75 crore nett weekend.

The fall was universal as all circuits crashed, even the North which saw the ebst weekend collections.

The weekday trending suggests that even a 35 crore nett lifetime total is looking a tough task for Mausam as it has a lost of screen space in week two.

Basically it is the third disappointment from all the major releases since July. The other two being Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap and Aarakshan.Link

Housefull 2 preponed for Salmaan's sake

It was going to be an unfortunate clash of the titans, now fortunately averted. Sajid Khan's Housefull 2 was going to be released on the same day as Kabir Khan's Ek Tha Tiger on June 1.

In a flash-decision taken on Tuesday evening, producer Sajid Nadiadwala has now decided to release his film on April 5, two months in advance.

"It's a decision based purely on the heart, not on commerce. Sajid Nadiadwala and Salman Khan are like brothers. There was no way Sajid would clash with Salman at the box-office. Sajid thought it better to prepone than postpone Housefull 2. However, it couldn't be moved back by just a few weeks since there are other biggies lined up in the weeks preceding Ek Tha Tiger. So Sajid has moved back by two months," says a source close to Nadiadwala.

And never mind if this means Housefull 2 would now have to be completed on a war footing.

Dost ho toh aisa.

Will Akshay get his 100 crore movie with Desi Boyz?

Three years back Shah Rukh Khan was ruling from the top and Akshay Kumar was giving him massive challenge to occupy the Number One slot. However, in the interim period Aamir Khan and Salman Khan came with multiple films that topped the Rs.100 crore mark and formed an exclusive club. Now that Shah Rukh is all set to join the club with Ra.One and Don 2, the industry is quite positive that Akshay too would achieve the same with Desi Boyz.

"First promo of Desi Boyz has seen a very good response ever since it was premiered along with Mausam as well as online", says a trade guru, "The film is looking fresh while the look of Akshay and John has quite appreciated as well. They seem to be sharing a great chemistry together and it is apparent that they have a winner in hand."

While response on YouTube and social networking sites have been largely positive, albeit with some bits of usual negatives trickling in as well, those in the know-how feel that Desi Boyz could well be one of the most aggressively marketed films of Akshay in the recent times.

"His Thank You wasn't promoted as a blockbuster in the making while his delayed films like Patiala House as well as Action Replayy were never expected to cross any major milestones. Yes, Tees Maar Khan was sold as a major festival film last Christmas and resultantly turned out to be Akshay's biggest opener as well. It is a different matter though that audience didn't take a liking to it due to which it couldn't sustain", remarks an observer.

"Desi Boyz should very comfortably break the opening weekend record for Akshay", he continues in the same breath, "One should also understand that market has improved leaps and bounds over last one year. Practically every biggie is netting close to Rs. 50 crores in one week itself. There is no reason why Desi Boyz shouldn't record similar collections. Of course once that happens, it would be film as a whole which will do all the talking. However all around vibe so far is good and with talks of Pritam composing at least a couple of major chartbusters for Akshay and John, seems like half the battle has already been won."

When contacted, director Rohit Dhawan said, "Akshay is one of the best actors in the country. He is capable of every genre whether it is action, romance, drama, comedy. That man can do anything under the roof. He is capable of so much; it is eventually left to the directors and script writers to get the best out of him."

What u say?

Force Pre Release Boxoffice Opening Prediction - Gautam Batra

Force is an upcoming Hindi Action thriller film directed by Nishikanth Kamath starring John Abraham & Genelia D'Souza in the lead roles. It is a remake of Gautham Menon's successful 2003 Tamil film, Kaakha Kaakha and is about a dutiful cop who chases the capture of a dreaded gangster. The film is set to release worldwide on September 30, 2011.

Lets start with the prediction...

1. The promos of the movie have got good response but the lack of Hit music will prove a barrier in the opening.

2. The film has been unable to generate a buzz among the audience due to lack of promotion.

3. The positive point is the John's great muscular look in the film & the genre i.e Action. The trailers promise to be 'Force' an action packed film which the Indian audience specially masses love to see.

On the whole Force will be dependent on Word Of Mouth and will start on a low note. An opening day can be in the range of 3-4 crore nett.

Disclaimer:The prediction is my own idea and accurate to best of my knowlege about the movies. Boxoffice result can be some times different due to the uncertainity.

Speedy Singhs has poor weekend

Speedy Singhs had a poor weekend of around 2.75 crore nett. The film did show jumps on Saturday and Sunday but not the sort which makes any difference to the final box office picture. The film was best in Delhi and Punjab. The daily breakdowns were as follows.

Friday - 70 lakhs

Saturday - 90 lakhs

Sunday - 1.10 crore

The other release of the week U R My Jaan was a total washout with not even 10 lakhs collections over the weekend.

Akshay's new Desi Boyz look exciting everyone including Bollywood celebs

Director Rohit Dhawan brought in designer Kunal Rawal to style Akshay in Desi Boyz. Kunal, who was styling AK for the worst time was excited about presenting the actor in a sexy avatar.

In the last few years, Akki hasn't really cashed in on his looks, and Kunal wanted to change that. BT spoke to B-Town folks about Khiladi Kumar's new avatar in the promo of the film.. Read on for what they had to say....

Deepika Padukone, Actress
I have always found Akshay to be a very sporty and good looking. His fitness is unique and like this athletic and sporty way of keeping fit. He is looking very good in our film Desi Boyz.

Sonam Kapoor, Actress
I love Akshay's new look in Desi Boyz! My friend Kunal Rawal has designed it and I think Akshay looks spectacularly sexy in that look. I give it two thumbs up!

Shirish Kunder, Producer
In an era when practically everyone has 6-packs, courtesy steroids, Akshay is a huge inspiration for all the youngsters as to what could be really achieved with a healthy lifestyle and natural workouts.

Farah Khan, Director
Akshay has always been sexy. He doesn't have to redefine hotness. Like there was Dharamendra today we have Akshay.

Ana Singh, fashion designer
He is very good looking, conventionally handsome and can carry most clothes effortlessly. He looks great in formals casuals and basic stuff.

Vikas Mohan, Trade analyst
After Shah Rukh Khan, it is Akshay Kumar who has the second highest fan following in the overseas market because of his hotness quotient. He looks charming and exceptionally hot in Desi Boyz, where he plays a naughty, flamboyant guy. This film is going to bring him back in a very big way.

Krishika Lulla, Desi Boyz producer
I have been flooded with messages in my phone inbox and receiving compliments from my friends who have seen the first DB promo.

Mausam first weekend business

Mausam had a fair first weekend of around 20.50 crore nett as per early estimates but it failed to show much growth over the weekend. Saturday was similar to Friday while Sunday was a bit higher than Saturday. The opening is by far the biggest for a Shahid Kapoor starrer.

The collections at single screens dropped on Saturday while multiplexes at places also dropped on Saturday. Mausam is likely to find it tough going on Monday going by weekend trends.

The best performance for the film has come in Delhi/LinkUP, East Punjab and Rajasthan while West Bengal and Nizam are well below the mark.

Mausam saturday update: Shows no growth

Mausam showed no growth on Saturday as its all India collections remained similar to its Friday all India collections at 6.50 crore nett. The two day total is 13 crore nett approx and it seems to be heading for a 21 crore nett weeeknd if Sunday grows.

The business at single screens came down heavily on Saturday with multiplexes having a mixed picture with some areas up and some areas down. Mausam will find it tough on Monday going the business on Saturday.

Circuits like CI and Rajasthan which were pretty good on Friday dropped around 15-20% while other circuits which were good like Delhi/UP and East Punjab remained the same as Friday.

A non performing circuit like West Bengal did show growth but collections were too low too low on the first day..

Mausam has decent first day

Mausam has had a good first day at the box office with collections around the 6.75 crore nett mark as per early estimates.

The film has fared well in North and Central parts of India while rest of the country had average collections but still its a relatively good number for the first day as it started slowly at most places.

It is the best opening day for a Shahid Kapoor film by a distance and now it remains how much growth it shows over the weekend. Normal weekend growth should see the film collect around 23 crore nett and with bigger jumps it may even hit the 25 crore nett mark for the weekend which would be a good result.

Katrina Kaif final in Dhoom 3

After denying the rumours that Katrina Kaif was to play the lead role in Dhoom 3, and albeit an extensive hunt for a new face for the leading lady, which included international aspirants as well, Yash Raj Films is now pleased to announce and confirm that Katrina will play this role.

Dhoom: 3
director, Vijay Krishna Acharya (Victor), along with Aditya Chopra, has made this choice after considerable deliberations. When asked on the selection process, Victor said, "After almost a year of searching for a new face for Dhoom:3, we were still unable to find the perfect debutant to play the lead role. We even reached out to international talent but were still unable to find someone who stood out. Both Adi and I really wanted to be sure that the person we chose would be perfect for the role.

Once we decided to go with a known face and not pursue the new-comer route, Katrina was the obvious choice for all of us. She is someone who we all know will bring tremendous enthusiasm and commitment to the film. The first time pairing of Aamir with Katrina will also certainly add value."
Produced by Aditya Chopra, Dhoom:3 is written and directed by Victor, who had also written Dhoom & Dhoom 2.

Apart from Aamir Khan, who plays the anti-hero in the film, both Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will continue in their now iconic roles of Jai Dixit and Ali.
The film will begin shooting end of this year and is slated for a 2012 Christmas release.

Speedy Singhs Movie Review - Komal Nahta

Vinay Virmani, living in Toronto with his family, wants to play professional hockey while his father wants him to look after the family business. Defying his father, he puts together an all-Indian hockey team and gets a foreign coach to train it. Does the team take on the other teams? Read the review of Speedy Singhs for more.

Business Rating: 0.5/5 star

Star cast: Vinay Virmani, Camilla Belle, Rob Lowe, Anupam Kher, Gurpreet Guggi, Russell Peters.

What’s Good: Nothing really!

What’s Bad: The story which is devoid of novelty; the poor screenplay; the generally weak performances of the artistes; absence of excitement of the game of hockey.

Verdict: Speedy Singhs is a poor show all the way and will be left behind in the box-office race. Its dubbed Hindi version will meet with the same fate.

Loo break: Any time, any number of times.

Watch or Not?: Watch Speedy Singhs if you want to see what Chak De! India would not have looked like even if it had gone terribly wrong.

Hari Om Entertainment Co. and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures’ Speedy Singhs (English) is designed to be a cross-cultural family comedy set in the Indo-Canadian community in Toronto in Canada. The film tracks a young man struggling between traditional Indo-Canadian family expectations and his dreams of becoming an ice hockey star.

Rajveer Singh (Vinay Virmani) is a young man dreaming of a career in the sport of ice hockey. He has cut off his hair in spite of being a Sikh, to fit into the society he lives in, much to the anger of his father, Darvesh Singh (Anupam Kher). His father wants him to look after the family business, currently being looked after by Rajveer’s paternal uncle, Sammy (Gurpreet Guggi).

Rajveer creates an all-Indian hockey team and names it Speedy Singhs. He gets a foreign coach to train the team and then asks his Sammy uncle’s truck company to sponsor the team. His own father is unaware of his moves.

What happens to the team? Is it able to face the competition of the other better teams? Is Rajveer Singh able to play in the final match? What about his father who has always been against him playing hockey? Answers to these questions are revealed in the end.

Speedy Singhs Review – Script Analysis

The story, penned by Vinay Virmani, Noel Barker, Jeffrey Schechter and Matt Simmons, is very similar to Chak De! India and Patiala House and, therefore, offers no novelty. Vinay Virmani’s screenplay is dull and devoid of any excitement whatsoever in spite of the film being about the game of hockey. What’s more, coming as it does after Chak De! India charmed the Indian audience, that too, with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, this film looks like an apology of a film. The drama is dull and even the game of ice hockey is uninspiring. Dialogues are as dull as the rest of the drama.

Speedy Singhs Review – Star Performances

Vinay Virmani cuts a sorry picture of himself as he neither looks like a hero nor acts like one. Camilla Belle does an excellent job as Melissa Winters. Anupam Kher is nice. Sakina Jaffrey, as Darvesh Singh’s wife, Lovleen Singh, is quite okay. Rob Lowe acts very well as coach Dan Winters. Noureen Dewulf is average as Reena. Russell Peters is quite nice as Sonu. Gurpreet Guggi is hardly funny. Akshay Kumar plays himself in an insignificant role. Others barely fill the bill.

Speedy Singhs Review – Direction & Music

Robert Lieberman’s direction is dull, to say the least. He has not been able to capture the excitement of a sporting event. Even the emotional under-current of the drama is lost. Music (Sandeep Chowta and Anjjan-Harmeet-Manmeet of Meet Bros.) is ordinary. Lyrics pass muster. Steve Danyluk’s cinematography is okay. Susan Shipton’s editing is average. Dubbing is ordinary; pronunciations of Englsih words, especially by the artiste who has dubbed the dialogues of Reena, is often pathetic.

Speedy Singhs Review – Komal Nahta’s Verdict

On the whole, Speedy Singhs is a poor fare and will fail to make any mark at the box-office. The dubbed Hindi version of the film has also been released simultaneously and its box-office fate will be equally terrible.

Mausam Movie Review - Komal Nahta

Shahid Kapoor is a young and happy-go-lucky Hindu boy living in a small town of Punjab. He meets a Kashmiri Muslim, Sonam Kapoor, and the two fall in love with one another. The two are separated soon and they meet after seven years in Scotland. But once again, they get separated. Do they ever meet after that? Find out in the review of Mausam.

Business Rating: 2/5 stars

Star cast: Shahid Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Supriya Pathak, Manoj Pahwa, Anupam Kher.

What’s Good: The music; the performances of the lead actors.

What’s Bad: The slow pace of the drama; the inclusion of too many events in the film; lack of emotional appeal; too many coincidences in the lives of Shahid and Sonam.

Verdict: Mausam lacks the heart-warming quality of a love story. However, it will do above-average business at the box-office.

Loo break: A couple in the second half.

Watch or Not?: Watch it for the songs and the performances of Shahid and Sonam.

Eros International, Vistaar Religare Film Fund and Cinergy’s Mausam is a love story of a Hindu boy, Harinder Singh alias Harry (Shahid Kapoor), and a Kashmiri Muslim girl, Aayat (Sonam Kapoor). Harry is a fun-loving boy who lives in Mallukot in Punjab. He is waiting for a call from the Indian Air Force where his future as a pilot lies. He meets Aayat for the first time at Mallukot when both are adolescents. Aayat, a Kashmiri Muslim, has come to live with her paternal aunt (Supriya Pathak) at Mallukot because of terrorist problems in Kashmir. Harry and Aayat fall in love with one another. Even as their romance is blossoming, Aayat leaves Mallukot all of a sudden one day. Harry has no information whatsoever about her as her aunt has also gone away with Aayat.

Seven years pass by. Harry is now an IAF pilot. His job takes him to Scotland where he meets Aayat again. Both are shocked to see each other. Aayat, her father (Kamal Nain Chopra) and now-widowed aunt have moved to Scotland. The romance between Harry and Aayat is rekindled. Even as they vow to live together after marriage, the Kargil war breaks out in India and Harry has to leave Scotland at the shortest possible notice. He is unable to even inform Aayat who was actually expecting him home for dinner that evening when he would also ask her father for her hand in marriage. A distraught Aayat comes looking for Harry in Mallukot but as he is still not back home, leaves a letter for him with Rajjo (Aditi Sharma), a girl who loved Harry but who has since gotten married to another boy. The letter never reaches Harry who then asks his sister in Switzerland to go to Scotland and contact Aayat. When all attempts to contact each other fail, Harry himself comes to Scotland but Aayat and family have, some weeks earlier, left Scotland.

Then, one day, out of the blue, Harry spots Aayat in Switzerland but takes her cousin to be her husband, and mistakes his child to be their child. Fate throws them together once again in Ahmedabad in India when communal riots break out there. Aayat is being chased by miscreants during the riots. Is Harry, whose left hand has since been paralysed, able to save Aayat or not? Do Aayat and Harry unite in matrimony?

Mausam Review – Script Analysis

The story, penned by Pankaj Kapur, is spread over a decade and more. Since the lovers keep meeting and getting separated, it follows the same path every time, making the drama repetitive and even boring. Pankaj Kapur’s screenplay burdens the repetitive story with so much extraneous drama (war, riots, circumstances, coincidences and more coincidences, accident etc.) that the romantic story becomes rather unwieldy. Even the several tracks would’ve been acceptable had the pace been fast. But the film moves at such a leisurely pace that it not only tests the audience’s patience but also raises questions in their minds about a number of issues. Since these questions have not been addressed, the viewer feels quite helpless. Also, with so much going wrong for both, Harry and Aayat, the audience, somewhere along the way, gives up and begins to actually question the many coincidences. Probably, the biggest drawback of the drama is that the audience feels no pain or sympathy for Harry and Aayat when they are unable to meet each other in spite of their concerted efforts. In any film on relationships, if the viewer is not going to feel bad when two lovers are separated, it is not a very happy situation. It would not be wrong to say that the writer has wasted too much time on the happenings around the two lovers and, in the process, missed out on the emotional part of the love affair. The cramming of too many events in the film make the drama tedious, long-winding and boring, especially after interval. Comedy is not upto the mark. Pankaj Kapur’s dialogues are good.

Mausam Review – Star Performances

Shahid Kapoor acts with effortless ease, beautifully underplaying his character of an IAF pilot in search of his love. He looks very handsome in uniform and performs brilliantly. His dances are graceful as ever. Sonam Kapoor also looks pretty and delivers a dignified performance. Her acting is suitably restrained. Supriya Pathak does an ordinary job and is not half as wonderful as she usually is. Manoj Pahwa acts well in a role that doesn’t have much significance. Aditi Sharma does a marvellous job as Rajjo. She is a fantastic actress. Kanika Mangkotya, as Harry’s sister, lends very good support. Anupam Kher is wasted. Kamal Nain Chopra acts ably as Aayat’s father.

Mausam Review – Direction & Music

Pankaj Kapur’s direction is good but he takes too long to come to the point, because of which his narration looks laboured. A lot of things in the film look superficial. He has beautifully projected the atmosphere of life in the Punjab town. Pritam’s music is excellent. Tashan and Rabba are the best songs and their picturisations (Ahmed Khan) are eye-filling. Yeh kaisa ishq hai is nice. ‘Mallo Malli’ is energetic. Lyrics (by Irshad Kamil) are nice. Cinematography (by Binod Pradhan) is very good. Stunts (Sham Kaushal) are okay. Sreekar Prasad’s editing is alright.

Mausam Review – Komal Nahta’s Verdict

On the whole, Mausam does not have the heart-warming quality of a love story to gladden the hearts of the audience. It will not have a long run at the box-office although fetching commission should not be a difficult proposition in view of its weekend business.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan 10 day business

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is holding up very well in its second. The film has only dropped 55% in its second weekend as compared to first weekend. The film collected 11.50 crore nett in it second weekend.

This takes the business of the film to 48.25 crore nett in ten days with the week likely to finish around 54-55 crore nett.

Mumbai circuit was 3.50 crore nett plus while Delhi/UP was around 2.50 crore nett and East Punjab collected around 1.25 crore nett. The film is also faring well in West Bengal and Mysore though Bihar, CP Berar and CI are under performers.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan should cross the 60 crore nett mark for its lifetime business and become the highest grossing Imran Khan film.

Mausam Pre Release Prediction - Gautam Batra

Mausam is an upcoming Hindi Romantic film. The movie stars Shahid Kapur & Sonam Kapoor in the lead and is directed & written by first time director Pankaj under the Vistaar Religare Film Fund banner. The film was earlier set to release on 22nd July but was then postponed to 16th Sept. But again due to some issues with IAF the film postponed & is now set to release on 23rd Sept 2011.

Lets start with the prediction...

1. Since the movie is announced, it has generated a lot of excitement in the audience because it promises to be a movie differnet from the regualr Romantic flicks.
2. The promos & music have added to the excitement. Rabba is already a blockbuster and Ik Tu Hi, Saj Dhaj Ke also have got an excellent response.

3. It has got enough time to generate buzz due to postponement of the release date two times.

4. Also there are lot of expectations due to the father-son jodi (Pankaj Kapur - Shahid Kapur) coming first time together with this movie.

5. Last but not the least the movie has a target audience youth which is surely looking forward to it and if youth comes for a movie strong business is ensured. Also it is a family movie.

Overall Mausam will have a good opening day & will surely be the biggest opener ever of Shahid Kapur. I expect the opening day of 6.5-7.5 crore nett.

Disclaimer: The prediction is my own idea and accurate to best of my knowlege about the movies. Boxoffice result can be some times different due to the uncertainity.

Bodyguard total business till third weekend

Bodyguard had a steady third weekend by collecting 5.25-5.50 crore nett and taking its it total to 135.50 crore nett approx after its third weeeknd. The approx weekend breakdown is 1.15 crore nett on Friday, 1.75 crore nett on Saturday and 2.50 crore nett on Sunday.

The drop from second weekend is 60% and the film should do around 8.50 crore nett in its third week. The postponement of Masuam helped the collections in the third weekend especially multiplex dominated circuits like East Punjab where the drop was just 50% from last week.

In its third weekend Bodyguard grossed around 1.60 crore in Mumbai, 1.20 crore in Delhi/UP and 60 lakhs in East Punjab.

Rajnikanth doing his trademark style sequence in Ra.One

Here comes the biggest casting coup of all times, the 'God of South Indian Cinema' Rajinikanth will be sharing screen space with none other than the 'Baadshah of Bollywood' Shah Rukh Khan in Ra.One
. SRK had earlier mentioned that the film pays a tribute Rajinikanth, but now Rajini will play cameo in the film.

Superstar Rajinikanth's fans who have been praying consistently for his recovery won't have to wait too long to see him on big screen as Ra.One releases this Diwali on October 26. His last release was last years blockbuster hit Robot.

Rajinikanth will be facing the camera for the first time after his bout of illness. He will start shooting for Ra.One on October 4th in Hyderabad at the Ramoji Film City.

The scene he will shoot for has been dedicated to him. Elaborating on the scene, a source said, SRK who is seen fighting a gang of villains faces another threat from a gang armed with deadly weapons. At this critical point, Rajini makes an entry in trademark 'Rajini Style' in a car. The super powered vehicle immediately sucks up all the weapons from the villains prompting SRK to ask Kareena Kapoor, who that man in the car was. That's when Rajinikanth steps out and delivers a super- hit dialogue from the film Bhasha.

He will resume full fledged shooting from November.

Apart from Rajinikanth, Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra have also made guest appearances in the film. While Rajini plays a helping aid to G.One (SRK), Sanjay and PC are with his enemy Ra.One played by Arjun Rampal.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan 8th day business

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan was steady on its eighth day at the box office as it picked up around 2.75 crore nett. The collections were more than the previous day.

The weekend for the film is likely to give a healthy 10-11 crore nett. The film is doing very well in Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Mumbai while West Bengal and Mysore are also good. Single screen dominated circuits like Bihar CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan are not that strong. In these circuits it is just the multiplexes which are doing decent business.

The 8th day business of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan again illustrates the importance of an open week as if Mausam had released as per schedule then Mere Brother Ki Dulhan would have been in the 1.50 crore nett range for its 8th day.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan first week business

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan had a good first week of around 37.50 crore nett. The film is also steady on its 8th day and should do 60 crore nett lifetime business. It has fared best in the Delhi/UP and East Punjab.

Rivaaz opened to very dull houses at 0-5% and has little chance at the ticket counters.

Bodyguard had a 21 crore nett second week and the two week total stands at 130.50 crore nett. The film held up best in Rajasthan. BLOCKBUSTER

Ra.One Music Review - Joginder Tuteja

EXPECTATIONS

'Humungous' - That's what described in one word the expectations one has from the music of Ra.One. Though this may seem like a simple word, there is a lot that goes behind the expectations here.

- Ra.One boldly claims itself to be the biggest movie ever made in the country

- Shah Rukh Khan is returning to the big screen more than year and a half after his last big screen outing

- Due to two reasons above, music has to be in line as well

- Vishal & Shekhar are synonymous with new sound especially when it comes to biggies. The stage is all set for them to justify the trust and confidence shown in them to deliver goods.

- Music of films made by Anubhav Sinha has more often than not always worked. Remember Dus, Cash, Tum Bin?

Simply put, there is no margin of error and with the kind of grandeur that the film promises; music has to be in accordance too. With expectations of a loaded experience ahead (Ra.One has 10 unique tracks with five remixes to further boost the prospects), one plays on Ra.One.

MUSIC

Expectedly, the album begins with 'Chammak Challo' which was 'leaked' a few months ago and has been in news ever since then. Well, the song more than lives up to the huge hype that has been built around it, courtesy Akon who has been dragged into the Bollywood music arena. A grand song by all means with huge production values that would be assuring enough for Akon to believe that this one can compete at an international level, 'Chammak Challo' is a fantastic amalgamation of Indian, Middle East and Western sound that gives it a distinguished appeal. Written by Vishal Dadlani and Niranjan Iyengar, the song is not just about Akon, as Hamsika Iyer lends him good support as well in the later parts of the song.

A huge winner all the way that Akon would certainly want to introduce in his international tours as well, 'Chammak Challo' arrives in an astonishing five 'remix versions'. Does one feel like being treated to an overdose of 'Chammak Challo'? Not at all as whether it is the regular 'remix', 'Punjabi mix', 'Club Mix' or 'International version' (where Akon goes solo), the impact is only accentuated as one is treated to a repeat play of this highly foot tapping number.

As one comes out of the euphoria of 'Chammak Challo', Vishal-Shekhar bring on a much sober and melody inclined 'Dildaara - Stand By Me' which is written by Kumaar. Now this is the kind of number that one always expects in a Shah Rukh Khan starrer and it is pretty much out there on a platter with Shafqat Amanat Ali doing quite well in bringing on a romantic number. While the start by itself is impressive, the song takes a different dimension altogether once the key word 'Dildaara' arrives. A love song which is a good fusion of modern day sound and Bollywood ethos, 'Dildaara' has Shafqat seeing good support coming from Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravjiani and Clinton Cerejo as well.

It is back to Akon with 'Criminal' which is a surprise because all this while one had expected 'Chammak Challo' to be his sole outing. This time around Akon sounds more like the way music lovers have been used to hearing him for last few years. However, what impresses most is the way Vishal-Shekhar go on to give 'Criminal' an altogether different dimension as from a peppy Western outing, it moves ahead as a high paced quintessential dance number, only to turn into a full-blown Hindi film song with the arrival of Shruti Pathak. Also, as a singer Vishal Dadlani does well to fuse his lines along with that of Akon, hence giving 'Criminal' a unique appeal. Written by Kumaar and Vishal Dadlani, 'Criminal' isn't a song about crime but is instead about a man wooing his lady love! The 'remix version' only adds on to the appeal.

There is a surprise in store though with the arrival of 'Bhare Naina' which turns out to be a shocker of an outing. Reason being that the soundtrack completely changes track with Nandini Srikar making it a semi-classical outing, courtesy her rendition which is filled with pathos. The song starts off rather slowly and just when one felt that it would take an out and out classical approach, Vishal-Shekhar bring in a fusion sound with Western elements coming in play as well. In the later portions of the song, they can also be heard faintly in the background as back up vocalists hence lending a haunting appeal to this sad song. Written by Panchhi Jalonvi, 'Bhare Naina' may not attract one's attention instantly but has in it to create a cinematic appeal when heard as a part of the film's narrative.

It is a much safer outing though with the arrival of Anvita Dutt written 'Right By Your Side'. A peppy feel-good song by Sidd Coutto which is about living life to the fullest and celebrating an all around bonding filled with happiness, it is good but seems a rather ill-placed in Ra.One. The kind of number which is more suited for a I Hate LUV Storys or a Break Ke Baad or an Anjaana Anjaani - all being Vishal-Shekhar creations, it may just find itself lost in the crowd in an album like Ra.One since the film comes with an altogether different theme, subject and genre.

The real fun begins from this point though as one gets to hear the real sound of Ra.One with five tracks in a row that turn out to be theme/background pieces that truly define what the film stands for. First to arrive is 'Raftaarein' which is a killer of a track, courtesy some true homage paid to R.D. Burman with an old world 70s style sound of an action thriller. Vishal (who also writes the song) as well as Shekhar go totally uninhibited behind the mike and come up with full throated rendition to make 'Raftaarein' a high energy number that should turn out to be adrenalin pumping and quite high impact when seen on the big screen.

Fun continues with 'Jiya Mora Ghabraaye - The Chase' which, as the title suggests, is created for a chase sequence. The moment this near five minute long track begins, one is reminded of another supremely well orchestrated 'Adrenaline Nitrate' that Vishal-Shekhar had created for the theme of Dus. This time around the production is far grander with Sukhwinder Singh and Vishal Dadlani coming together with a fusion mix that ends up creating a trance effect. The song also sees Anubhav Sinha stepping in as a lyricist with Vishal Dadlani chipping in as well. Yet another track which is made for the big screen!

Next three tracks that follow last close to 100 seconds each and are actually the same musical pieces about which much has been said and written about the 200 piece orchestra that was put together by Vishal-Shekhar in Prague. International in appeal and pretty much fitting into Hollywood scheme of things, 'Comes The Light - Theme' is the first to come which is just what one would have expected from a gargantuan superhero flick like Ra.One. 'I'm On' pretty much takes the album forward with the sound of 'Raftaarein' presented in a contemporary manner instead of being set in the 70s mode. Last to arrive is 'Song Of The End' which has a sad feel to it and reminds one of the sound from Titanic. All said and done, these are the theme tracks that would have made acclaimed Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer stand up and notice.

OVERALL

Ra.One has brilliancy written all over it and is clearly a huge winner all the way. It isn't just the grandest score of the year but is also one of the hugest ever that has come out of Bollywood. Music here not just meets the huge expectations but also surpasses it at various junctures, hence making it a satiating experience for the listener. Not just that as it also promises a major cinematic outing once big screen comes calling. A definite choice of the season.

Bodyguard two week total business

Bodyguard has grossed 20 crore nett approx in its second week which is pretty good considering its extended first week.

The film has now grossed nearly 130 crore nett after two weeks. The business in week two was more steadier at single screens as multiplexes saw a huge drop in the shows they were screening compared to week one.

The postponement of Mausam should enable Bodyguard to cross the lifetime net business of Dabangg as the third weekend will be stronger now. If Mausam had releases the film would have been looking at a 3.25-3.50 crore nett third weekend but now it can come in above 5 crore nett.
