Housefull 2 still no. 1 in Overseas, KSKHH opens to poor response

Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum collected a poor $300,000 from overseas.

Cocktail is nearly out in all the markets after three weeks. The film will do around $4.25 million.

Bol Bachchan will also finish on a total of around $4.25 million which is a decent performance as unlike Cocktail its not an overseas friendly genre especially with rural setting.

Housefull 2 is still the biggest grosser overseas of 2012 although Ek Tha Tiger will cross it when it releases in August.

Kya Super Kool Hain Hum Monday Business

Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum dropped around 50% on Monday as it collected around 3.25 crore nett. The film has grossed around 25 crore nett in four days and should do around 31 crore nett over the week. Mumbai circuit was again the best contributor with around 1.25 crore nett with Delhi/UP being around 65 lakhs.

The single screen circuits showed a 50% plus drop as single screens dropped at most places. Overall its a decent Monday adding to the good weekend business. The lifetime business of the film will head to around 40 crore nett which is pretty good for a film like Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum which does not have a big cast and only has city youth as its audience.

Cocktail drops in third weekend

Cocktail had heavy drops in its third weekend as it collected around 2.75 crore nett in its third weekend. The film has collected just over 72 crore nett in seventeen days. The lifetime business of the film is looking to be 76-77 crore nett.

The film managed to get a good initial due to the music and that helped the film to score at the box office. The appreciation for the film is limited, it has been liked in the Delhi NCR and Punjab region but other places the collections are down a lot. Even in Mumbai city which should have been one of its best markets the collections fell 70-75% in week two and third weekend has seen an even bigger drop.

The good collections at North India multiplexes ahve saved the film and enabled the film to emerge a hit.

Kya Super Kool Hain Hum has a super weekend

Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum did very well over its first weekend. the film did not show huge growth over the weekend but that was expected as its first day came in at a high level. The Saturday business of the film was similar to Friday while Sunday managed to have 15-20% growth.

The film grossed around 21.50 crore over the weekend. Friday was around 6.75 crore nett, Saturday was around the 7 crore nett region while Sunday is around 8-8.25 crore nett as per early estimates. The weekend is 21.75-22 crore nett approx.

Salman likely to face jail again!

It seems that one wrong that he committed eons ago has held on to actor Salman Khan’s neck like an albatross leaving no room for him to live in peace.

News has it that the star might have to face a jail term once again for the black-buck shooting case which charged him along with his co-stars like Tabu, Neelam, Sonali Bendre, and Saif Ali Khan during their ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ shooting days.

Now that the case is being examined by the Rajasthan High Court, sources have reported that the stars who were involved (especially Salman) will be held under Section 51 of Wildlife Act and section 149 of the IPC. Sadly, the fact is that Section 51 of the wildlife Act includes a three year jail term!

And if the court has it way, Salman might have to go through a personal turmoil once again. Well, all we can do is pray for dear Sallu so that he gets out of the problems soon.

Kya Super Kool Hain Hum First Day Early Estimates

Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum had a good first day of around 6.50 crore nett as per early estimates. the film collected well in all circuits apart from Mysore. Business in the Mumbai circuit was very good as Maharashtra and Gujarat did very well. East Punjab managed to do well despite big competition from a Punjabi film.

The opening number is just huge for a film featuring Riteish Deshmukh or Tusshar Kapoor as main leads as their solo lead films Tere Naal Naal Love Ho Gaya and Chaar Din Ki Chandni released earlier this year both opened to less than 2 crore collections on day one. So in this context the opening day is extraordinary.

The opening day of Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum is also better than films like Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Teri Meri Kahaani, Players and Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl. It remains to be seen what growth it can put up on the weekend but as opening level is high for such a film it may be difficult to show major growth.

Cocktail drops on third friday

Cocktail had a heavy drop on its third Friday as Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum released. The collections on the third Friday were around 60 lakhs with Delhi NCR and Mumbai city forming a big chunk of that amount.

The collections should rise on Saturday and the weekend could head towards the 3 crore nett mark. The lifetime business will now finish in the 75-80 crore nett region due to heavy third week drop.

Cocktail had only a two week run in the smaller circuits and is out of most theatres in Rajasthan, CP Berar, CI and Bihar in week three.

North America - $1,025,000

Priyanka Chopra to start Zanjeer shooting from early September!

Director Apoorva Lakhia, who recently finished the first schedule of the remake of 1973 film Zanjeer, says actress Priyanka Chopra will join the crew in September.

"We have finished the first schedule for the film. Now the second schedule will start from September. Priyanka and Arjun Rampal will join the crew then," Lakhia told IANS.

"We are planning to finish the shoot of Zanjeer by November, and it is scheduled for release in 2013," he added.

The director recently shot few scenes in Bangkok with Mahie Gill and Prakash Raj.

"We shot few scenes with Mahie, who is playing Mona Darling and Prakash Raj, who is playing a negative role. It was a wonderful experience shooting with them. Both are unbelievable actors.

"Mahie is looking very sexy and modern in the film," said Lakhia, who has earlier helmed movies like Shootout At Lokhandwala and Mission Istanbul.

Produced by Amit Mehra, the Zanjeer remake features southern star Ram Charan Teja as the male lead. He will reprise megastar Amitabh Bachchan's role in the movie.

Rajesh Khanna thanks, salutes fans in Anand style!

India's first superstar Rajesh Khanna, who passed away on July 18, 2012, left behind a special recorded message for his family, friends and fans, which was played at his chautha held over the weekend. In the message he is heard saying that he owes his success as an actor to the stage. He has talked about how he began his career as a theatre artist when there was no godfather whom he could turn to.

He came into the movies through the United Producers Filmfare Talent contest where he was seated on a long table in presence of celeberated filmmakers like Bimal Roy, Shakti Samanta and many others.

In the recording Rajesh Khanna says that right before delivering the dialogue, he had nervously asked: "Maine kaha ki dialogue toh yaad hai lekin yeh jo dialogue hai, yeh aapne nahi bataya ki iska characterisation kya hai ki yeh hero jo hai woh aapni maa ko batata hai ki main ek nachnewali se shaadi karna chahta hu aur usko teri ghar ki bahu banana chahta hu. Maine kaha, aapne na character bataya maa ka, na hero ka...ki bhai ameer hai, gareeb hai, ma sakt, kadak hai, naram hai, middle class hai, aadmi pada likha anpad hai? Kya? Kuch bhi nahi".

Rajesh Khanna recounts that Mr Chopra retorted saying: "You are from the stage so make your own characterisation."

During that audition the chapter of his stardom opened. The dialogue he mouthed in front of the stalwarts was: "Haan main kalakar hun, haan main kalakar hun, kya karoge meri kahani sunkar..." (Yes I am an artist , yes I am artist, why would you want to hear my story...). And rest, to use a cliche, is history.

Rajesh Khanna appeared in 163 feature films and delivered various hit films such as Kati Patang, Safar, Ittefaq, Aradhana, Anand, Amar Prem and Aan Milo Sajna.

In the tape Rajesh Khanna also thanked his fans saying: "Doston aapka ek hissedar main bhi hun aur jaise maine pehle bhi kaha ki aap apna keemti waqt nikalkar...aapka yeh pyaar tha ki aap maujood hue aur itni bhaari sankhya mein. Main yehi kahunga ki bahut-bahut shukriya, thank you aur mera bahut-bahut salaam." (Friends, I'm a part of you, and as I said, you have all taken time out for me. This is the love, your presence in numbers that I'm grateful for, thank you, thank you my salaam to you all.)

Rajesh Khan reminded the scene of his blockbuster movie “Anand” in this way, where the same kind of speech is played after he dies. Really, he is unforgettable. RIP :(

Cocktail performs strongly on Second Monday

Cocktail continued its good run on its second Monday as it collected around 1.75 crore nett. The drop is around 35-40% from its second Friday.

North India is performing very well with Delhi/UP and East Punjab having strong collections. In both circuits its Monday figures were better or on par with The Dark Knight Rises. It also has a solid performance in Mumbai city, Pune and Bangalore in its second week.

Coctail has collected 65.25 crore nett in 11 days and its second week will do business of around 17.50 crore nett taking it over the 70 crore nett mark.

Bol Bachchan 17 Day Total Business

Bol Bachchan had a solid third weekend collecting around 6.75 crore nett taking its seventeen day business to around 91 crore nett.

The drop in third weekend is around 55% as compared to 60% in the second weekend. Bol Bachchan is holding up extremely well in Gujarat and CP Berar. In Gujarat the film had collections better than the second weekend of Cocktail at many centres. The Saurashtra third weekend figure was better than the second weekend figure of Cocktail.

In Gujarat (Gujarat + Saurashtra) the film has collected around 16 crore nett in 17 days which is a huge number.

The film will have a huge drop in the fourth week due to the release of Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum but it will eventually cross the business of Singham in terms of distributor share and nett collections.

In East Punjab and Mysore the film will do better business than Bol Bachchan but on the other hand the distributor share in circuits like Bihar, CI, CP Berar and Rajasthan will be less than 50% of Bol Bachchan.

The film has also not performed that well in Gujarat with Bol Bachchan having better figures in its third weekend at many centres as compared with the second weekend of Cocktail.

Cocktail opens well in Overseas, Bol Bachchan set to hit $4 Million

Cocktail opened well in overseas markets but considering the Overseas friendly genre it had more potential. The opening was around $2.6 million while Love Aaj Kal had opened at around $3.1 million with a smaller release. The collections from major markets are as follows.

UK - £295,000

North America - $650,000

UAE - $700,000

Australia - $180,000

Bol Bachchan has fared pretty well and should do around $4 million Overseas. The ten day business in major markets is as follows.

UK - £335,000

North America - $1,000,000

UAE - $1,000,000

Australia - $310,000

Cocktail tuesday business

Cocktail collected around 5 crore nett on Tuesday which is a 15% approx drop from Monday. The business after five days is approx 46.75 crore nett. The fall on Tuesday is more than Bol Bachchan last week but as its target audience is multiplexes rather than single screens the weekday drops will be there as multiplex occupancies drops more on weekdays.

The film should manage to cross 80 crore nett from here even on a worse case scenario. The highest grossing film to date in Coctail's genre is Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara at 90 crore nett and that may be out of reach for Cocktail but the 41 crore distributor share of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is definitely possible.

Sajid Khan lodges complaint against hacker

Sajid Khan has been known for his spicy and sarcastic sense of humor. However, this time around, someone else has been doing some cheap activities under the disguise of his name.

Many of the aspiring actresses have alleged that they have been receiving emails from Sajid Khan asking them to send nude pictures of theirs. Turns out that Sajid's email id has been hacked and the hacker has been sending such emails to actresses. A furious Sajid has now registered an official complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell in Mumbai.

On Monday, Sherlyn Chopra too tweeted, "Some guy pretending 2 b Sajid Khan has bn sending me e-mails begging me 2 share my high res nude pix with him! Don't know if itz indeed SK!"

Talking about the incident, Sajid said that when he learnt about the obscene misuse of his email, he filed a complaint and had also terminated his account in June. He also added that he is not an email person. Only recently, he sent out a message to everybody stating that he doesn't have an email id at all.

Bol Bachchan grossed 2 crore nett on its second Monday which takes its second week business to 16.75 crore nett  so far and the week should finish at around 22 crore nett. The Monday business as compared to Friday (in brackets) in some circuits is as follows.

East Punjab - 15 (22)

CP Berar - 16 (23)

All above figures in lakhs

Cocktail holds up strongly on Monday

Cocktail held up well on Monday as it collected around 6 crore nett taking its four day total to around 41.75 crore nett. The all India drop on Monday from Friday is less than 50%.

The film has dropped in mass circuits as Friday was low and the drop is 50% on Monday from the low levels. So not much can be expected from these places from here on. Multiplexes remain strong especially in metros, Delhi city was super strong on Monday with collections just 40% lower than the huge Friday it had in Delhi city. Other circuits which have big multiplex contribution saw less than 50% drops.

The week is looking to close at around 55 crore nett which is very good.

Ek Tha Tiger sattelite rights not sold for 75 crore

Anything and everything to do with Salman Khan makes news. But this one has created ripples not just within the film fraternity, but also in the TV industry as also amongst the aam junta. A section of the media has reported that Yash Raj had sold the Satellite rights of EK THA TIGER to Sony for, hold your breath, a whopping Rs 75 crores. Yes, you read it right -- Rs 75 crores. If true, the price could change the dynamics of films starring A-list stars in times to come, with film-makers recovering their entire investment from the sale of Satellite Rights alone.

But the news is far from true! Let's get it straight from Sneha Rajani, the Sr Executive Vice President & Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television, "Let me set the record straight. Sony had clinched the deal for the Satellite Rights of EK THA TIGER almost 15/16 months ago, not last week or in the recent past. In fact, we clinched the deal even before they [Yash Raj] commenced filming EK THA TIGER. Besides, do you think we would've paid this ridiculous price 15/16 months ago? We wouldn't settle for it even today," Sneha clarifies.

Not wanting to comment on the actual price Sony has paid for the Satellite Rights of EK THA TIGER, Sneha adds, "The figure [75 cr] is miles away from the actual price paid by Sony. In fact, I wish to add that Yash Raj is an extremely responsible and professional setup and Yash-ji sees to it that not just his company, but even those who associate with Yash Raj benefit from the collaboration."

With Salman Khan becoming the invincible force at the BO thanks to back-to-back blockbusters, has Yash Raj revised the price of the Satellite Rights of EK THA TIGER? "Not at all! They are too professional. They would never ever indulge in something like this," Sneha replies instantly. Seems like Yash Raj believes in the now-legendary dialogue delivered by Salman in one of his earlier hits: 'Ek baar jo maine commitment kardi, uske baad to main khudki bhi nahin sunta.'

Sanjay Dutt turns Samurai Warrior for 'Sher'

For all those who have been waiting for hardcore Sanjay Dutt style action, your wait is over. For director Soham Shah's upcoming film Sher, the stylish actor has done some unique sword fighting action stunts in a never-been-seen before avatar. To everyone's surprise Dutt did not require any training to perform the sequence and even finished it days before the planned schedule. How he did that is another story.

Apparently, the actor had mastered the skill of using the Samurai sword ages ago, even before his first film Rocky. Very little is known about this talent of the actor because he never got a chance to flaunt it. The actor's late father, veteran actor Sunil Dutt had sent Jr. Dutt to Japan to learn this form of martial art for a year even before his career began.

And today, years later when he was informed about the sequence in the film, he put everyone at ease on the sets letting them know that it's a piece of cake for him and that he would do all the stunts himself.

In fact director Soham challenges any younger generation star to achieve the kind of perfection and body language that Dutt Saab has. "He has done a lot of cable work and sword fights. He used the Samurai with such ease and comfort. We owe this to Sunil Dutt saab who had the foresight to send Sanjay to Japan to learn the art", quipped the director.

The action has been choreographed by action director Kanal Kannan who has done a huge body of work down south. The film, which is produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Pvt Ltd., is 95 percent complete with only a few songs and patch-work left. The film also stars Vivek Oberoi, Humaima Mallik and Karishma Tanna along with Dutt.

Bol Bachchan 10 Day Business

Bol Bachchan crossed the 75 crore nett mark in ten days as it grossed 14.75 crore nett approx over the weekend. The ten day business of the film is 75.50 crore nett.

The business of the film was hit on Friday as Cocktail releases but it went up over the weekend. The film was helped by the fact that Cocktail was more of a multiplex film so the single screen business of Bol Bachchan remained largely unaffected. In fact the business in CP Berar on its second Sunday was the same as Cocktail business on its first Sunday.

The film will comfortably cross the business of Singham which had a distributor share of 50 crore while the Bol Bachchan share heads towards 52-55 crore.

Cocktail has great weekend

Cocktail had an extraordinary weekend at multiplexes as it notched up business of around 35.75 crore nett. A huge chunk of this near 36 crore nett plus has come from multiplexes as multiplexes recorded very high occupancies which have not been seen in a long time. The daily breakdowns were as follows.

Friday - 10.75 crore nett
Saturday - 12 crore nett
Sunday - 13 crore nett

The film is the biggest opener ever for a film of its genre and did superb business in Mumbai, city, Delhi NCR, Chandigarh Pune and Bangalore.

The collections were on the low side in single screen circuits as appreciation was limited and now it remains to be seen where the multiplexes can take it in terms of lifetime business.

The weekend territorrial breakdown is as follows:

Mumbai - 13.32 crore

Delhi/UP - 7.48 crore

East Punjab - 3.64 crore

West Bengal - 1.82 crore

Bihar - 33 lakhs

CP Berar - 1.24 crore

Bol Bachchan shows excellent growth on second saturday

Bol Bachchan showed an excellent jump of around 40% on its second Saturday as it collected around 4.50 crore nett adding to the 3.25 crore nett on Friday.

In Delhi/UP, CI and Rajasthan the film will emerge the biggest grosser ever for the Ajay Devgn/Rohit Shetty combination beating both Golmaal 3 in Delhi/UP and Singham in CI and Rajasthan.

Sunday will show huge growth for the film across India as all markets will show a big jump especially the mass centres. The weekend should be in the 14-15 crore nett region.

Cocktail shows good jump on saturday

Cocktail showed good growth on Saturday as it collected 11.75 crore nett compared to the 10.75 crore nett on Friday. Cocktail has now collected 22.50 crore nett in two days. The multiplex areas showed good growth be it Mumbai city, Delhi NCR or Bangalore.

The Saturday figure for Cocktail is similar to the number posted by Bol Bachchan last Saturday and over the first two days Cocktail has collected just 75 lakhs approx less than Bol Bachchan despite a much smaller release.

Bol Bachchan showed big growth on Sunday and that is unlikely with Cocktail as multiplexes are running close to full capacity and the growth potential is only at single screens where the film is not too strong. Still just the normal mass area growth on Sunday will take it to over 35 crore nett for the weekend which is an excellent figure for Cocktail.

Cocktail first day territorrial breakdown

Cocktail has collected 10.75 crore nett approx on its first day. The weekend territorial breakdown is as follows. Below is the first day territorial breakdown.

Imtiaz Ali seperates from Wife!

Love stories between directors and actresses is as old as Bollywood. Among the newer lot, Anurag Kashyap fell for and subsequently married his DevD actress Kalki Koechlin.

Then there's Sajid Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez, who we hear are well on their way to being married. Now, it seems to be the much-married Imitaz Ali's (though we hear from reliable sources that his divorce with wife Preety has come through) turn.

The director, who separated from his wife some time ago, has become very close to Pakistani model and actress Iman Ali, who starred in the riveting film Bol last year. Iman made her debut in another much-talked-about film Khuda Kay Liye, and is the daughter of television/film actor Abid Ali and his first wife Humaira.

A source says, "Iman was introduced to the director by mutual friends in B-Town last year. Since then, they've became very close. In fact, just a day before the release of Rockstar, Imtiaz and Iman visited the Nizamuddin dargah in Delhi last year as well as in April this year."

The source adds that Imtiaz and Preety had been having problems in their marriage for over a year, and their divorce has been kept a secret as they don't want their 11-year-old daughter Ida to be affected by it. "Imtiaz and Iman's courtship has also been kept under wraps, and only a few people in the industry know about it. Preety has worked as an executive producer on several films and is looking at a full-fledged career as a director now. Apparently, a production house has already signed her on."

Despite repeated attempts, Imtiaz remained unavailable for comment.

Salman should himself decide marriage date - Katrina Kaif

Actress Katrina Kaif, who was once girlfriend of Salman Khan, says the actor (Salman) himself should decide about the age of his marriage.

"I think no one else except Salman should decide at what age he wants to get married," Katrina said at a promotional event of Ek Tha Tiger, when she was asked about 46-year-old Salman's marriage.

In the promos of their upcoming film Ek Tha Tiger, Katrina is shown telling 'Dabangg' Khan that it is high time he gets married.

Even Aamir Khan had yesterday said he has been telling Salman to get married soon but he does not listen to anybody.

To this Salman said, "Aamir is after me for this. I don't understand why everyone is after my marriage. Is there any benefit in me getting married?"

When film's director Kabir Khan was asked if this was deliberate attempt to have the dialogue in Ek Tha Tiger, he said, "No, we have not done this deliberately."

"Since I have Katrina and Salman in the movie I couldn't resist but have this..," he said, on a lighter note.

Bol Bachchan Second Friday Business

Bol Bachchan collected around 3.25 crore nett on its second Friday. Its a 70% drop from its first day as multiplex business was hit by the new release Cocktail but single screen business remained good. The film has collected around 63 crore nett in eight days.

The Bihar, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan belts where Cocktail did not do great business remained best for Bol Bachchan. UP was also good but Delhi, Punjab and South say big drops.

Bol Bachchan should show a good jump on Saturday and Sunday business should be very strong especially in mass areas.

Cocktail Opening Day Business

Cocktail had a very good first day as it collected around 10.50-10.75 crore nett on day one. The film was extraordinary in places like Mumbai city, Delhi city, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Pune and Bangalore.

The occupancies at multiplexes were fantastic and on par with any release in the last year but it did not have the screens at multiplexes of a Agneepath or Bodyguard. The single screen business was average and the release in single screens was also limited as Bol Bachchan retained the best single screens across the country.

Cocktail is the first film that has gone over 10 crore nett first day without a major contribution from single screens. Rockstar last year was just below 10 crore nett.

Kareena in Punit Malhotra's next with Imran

After some speculation on who would be the leading lady opposite Imran Khan in Punit Malhotra's next directorial venture, it can now be confirmed that it's none other than Kareena Kapoor. The hit jodi of Imran and Kareena who shared fab chemistry earlier this year in Dharma Productions' Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu will re-unite once again for another Dharma film this time to be directed by Punit Malhotra.

Kareena is excited to once again work with Imran and that too in a Dharma Productions film. The actress also knows Punit for a while since he happens to be her good friend and designer Manish Malhotra's nephew.

This would be Punit's second directorial venture after I Hate Luv Storys. The film promises to be a commercial masala entertainer.

Joker Trailer Analysis - Gautam Batra

Joker is an upcoming Hindi comedy drama fantasy adventure film and Shirish Kunder's second directorial venture after Jaan-E-Mann.The film stars Akshay Kumar opposite Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles. This would be the second film in which Sinha is paired opposite Kumar after Rowdy Rathore. The film will release across India on August 31st, 2012.Joker is reportedly Akshay Kumar's 100th film.

Trailer of the movie released recently is a sureshot winner. Shirish Kunder was promising a lot and he has really been successful in impressing with first look of the movie.  Trailer promises lots of enteratinment, fantasy, adventure, humour all in one movie. This one has very different & fresh feel thus will appeal to classes & urban audience. Story seems novel & different. Lead pair Akshay & Sonakshi are looking good. The film doesn't seem to have much for masses but Akshay's presence & good music (which is being felt with the song in the background) are enough for attraction.

Though the trailer seems good, but movie will not take bumper opening like Akshay's past movies Housefull  2 & Rowdy Rathore. If the music & next promos come equally well then good opening is on cards and good content will take it forward.

We wish lots of luck to Joker team. Hope this one hit the bulls eye.

Saif To Play Russian Mafia guy in "Go Goa Gone"

Even as he is busy with his next big release Cocktail, Saif Ali Khan is prepping for the shoot of his forthcoming home production Go Goa Gone. The film, a zombie-comedy, is directed by the talented duo of Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK and stars Saif along with Kunal Khemu, Vir Das and Puja Gupta.

However, what is interesting is the fact that Saif will be sporting a completely new look for this film. Saif plays a Russian mafia guy who is a zombie hunter and to add authenticity to his character, the actor will be dyeing his hair platinum blonde. The actor will be shooting for Go Goa Gone towards the end of July in Mauritius.

We can't wait to see Saif in this new avatar!
