Huge expectations in trade from Ra.One

Ra.One is looking at record breaking collections as long as the content does not disappoint.

The film can hit the 100 crore nett mark over its extended five day weekend in its Hindi version.

Bodyguard released on Eid this year collected 85.25 crore nett over its extended five day weekend and Ra.One has a bigger release and higher ticket prices. It has the potential to collect 20-25% more than Bodyguard because of these two factors.

The opening can even go higher as Bodyguard saw a noticeable drop on Friday and if Ra.One was to get universal acceptance than that drop on Friday will be less.

The promotion blitzkrieg by Shahrukh Khan has hit the nail right on its head and the hype and buzz for this film is at a level never seen before for any film. This is why multiplexes opening numbers will be at an unbelievable level but the huge promotion does reach everywhere. The crazy promotion works less as the centre gets smaller so it may not get the opening numbers of a Bodyguard in a Kisangarh, Mhow or Rudrapur but a Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore where heavy promotion means huge awareness, Ra.One is likely to be well ahead.

The other side is that Ra.One is a science fiction superhero film and these type of films have huge acceptance in the West but in India they will not connect unless there is some sort of emotional base in the film. Even if the film has a huge budget and huge special affects but does not connect with the audience it will see falling collections. In India special affects and great visuals are never enough especially outside the urban centres.

Basically if the film does not connect then all equations go out of the window as cracks in collections will start early in A,B&C centres and will follow in the metros.
